What's in yer milk crate?
Gotta love the milk crate for yakkin! Fits perfectly in rear area in my Ascend 12T. I have a "3 rod" holder attached to it, and carry extra rope, a few odds/ends, and some 3700 plano boxes.

Cranking Rod (Dobyns VS St. Croix)
can't go wrong with either one. I use 2 Dobyns Fury 705CB's. I used to use Avid 70MHM's, and Dobyns Champion 705CB graphites also. I think the Fury is the best bang for the buck!

Crankbaits in shallow vs deep water? Which work better?
Do no get the MM, waaay to light action/power. I’ve owned the Avid 70MHM’s, and Dobyns Champion 705CB MHM’s, and now the Fury 705 MHM’s. I would say they are all VERY similar in action & power. I think the Fury is the best bang for your buck. I don’t crank any deeper than 12-15 ft. But I love cranking anything shallower than that! the MHM action/power may “seem” a tad too heavy action/power in your hands, but once you hook a fish on one, you WILL understand why that model is so popular!

Crankbaits in shallow vs deep water? Which work better?
get a 7'0 MHM, and fish both depths! I HIGHLY suggest a Dobyns Fury 7'0MHM. VERY affordable, and a GREAT crankbait rod. I own 2 of them, and use them for cranking from 2 ft to 12 ft depths.

Best Fish Finder Screen ?
I like my Humminbirds. I will say, I haven’t used Lowrance for a while. Hummingbird is CRUSHING Lowrance’s sales because of their units being able to link with Minn Kota ipilot trolling motors.

Finally got Polar Kraft 195 out for first time!
Finally got to take my new boat to the lake for it’s maiden voyage. I put 2 hours of run time, pretty much going by what the manual says, and the last 30 minutes to get it to 2 hours, I played with it a little higher in the rpms at short bursts. full tank of gas, 2 people (210 lbs & 145lbs) Winds were around 20 mph out of the south, and the lake ran north-south. So I got a real good idea how this boat will handle in 2 ft rollers, and all I can say is that I am freaking impressed!!! Running a 14x23 Suzuki SS prop, it jumped on plane faster than any boat I’ve ever been in! Unbelievable hole shot! Initially I thought that it was under propped because of how quick it plained. It took the 2 ft rollers like a glass boat! I’ve owned MANY glass boats (Stratos 181 Pro, Hydrasports 196; Skeeter 202ZX, Basscat Puma, Champion 183) and this boat feels like a glass boat! NO “tin slap” what so ever. It handled those 2 ft rollers like a glass boat! It is a beast! I’ve never been in a tin mod V that rode as nice! I know that I only have a couple hours seat time, but this boat has surpassed my expectations! I got to take it to “almost” WOT, at 5800 rpms (max rpms is 6200), at 49.8 mph gps. I think I could have gotten all 6200 rpms, at about 54’ish if I would have tried. Not a speed demon ( no pad) but I’ll take the way it rides and takes on rough water over speed any day up here on these smaller lakes, and Lake Erie. The Suzuki is freaking awesome! It’s quite as hell & power out the ass! Left the lake wanting more! Didn’t want to get away from behind that wheel! Can’t wait till I’m back out there!

Battery level meter ?
Here's a picture of one that came with my Polar Kraft. It only shows the level of the trolling motor batteries.

My answer to clean routing of transducer cable on MK Fortrex....
One of my only complaints on Minn Kota Fortrex trolling motors, is there is not access to route the transducer cable for a "clean" look. Well, here is one good option. What I like about this option is that it does not involve routing the cable up the trolling motor foot cable & across the trolling motor head unit, ( which looks messy to me) The bounce buster that comes with the Fortrex is a real plus in this way of routing, because wraping cable around it helps secure and route cable to the TM shaft in a very clean way! One note, it did involve drilling a few holes in the trolling motor top mounting bracket, to secure the cable with zip ties, so there is no chance in the cables slipping down and getting pinched when stowing the trolling motor.

mid range crank rod
I just bought 2 of these for mid depth cranks. They are a great choice! Best crankbait rod in that price range. I own some Dobyns Savvy and Champions, and these were my first Fury purchases. I am impressed how lightweight these 705cb’s are!

Fishing Kayak?
I have a 2016 Ascend 12T. Love it! I grabbed a leftover in the fall of 2016 for $480 from a local BPS (local meaning 100 miles away!) It's very stable, and it fishes well! You WILL NOT find a better "sit on top" fishing kayak in that price range!

Heritage Boat Towing
A 4 cylinder Ranger will pull that Heritage, especially if it has the 2.3L / 2 plugs per cylinder engine. i would keep your truck and try it first, before going out and maybe spending unnecessary money.

$1000 Kayak
BPS Ascend 12T i got one last year on clearance, and it's a nice, comfortable, stable yak! For well under $1000 ($649 retail)

Backreeling with a spinning reel
one HUGE mistake when fighting a fish while using your drag is to keep on reeling while drag is being taken out. BAD!!! talk about a line twisting mistake!!! I even see BASS pros do it ALL THE TIME! you keep leverage on the fish with the rod, not with the reel! ( which is why matching the right rod with the lb test line you’re using is CRUTIAL!) I’ve been asked my some of my “inexperienced” fishing buddies, while I’m fight a 4lb+ smallie on 6 lb test line, “why aren’t you reeling that fish in”. LOL You control the fish with the rod, control the slack line with the reel, and control the fish surges with the drag. I average over 2,000 smallies a yr since around 1990, up on Erie, with dozens and dozens going over 6 lbs. hundreds over 5, and who knows how many thousands over 4, ( biggest is 7lb 14oz) and I use NOTHING over 8lb test line, and I can’t remember EVER EVER EVER getting “broken” off. That’s all because of correct rod/ line matchup, AND using a reel with a good drag, and knowing how to use that drag!
