What's the mfr rec on breaking in Merc 4-stroke?
My mercury 60 four stroke required so many hours of varying RPMs between 2k and 4k. Dont remember what the amount was. It was pretty unfortunate because that range wasn't quite enough to get on plane so we'd plow around the lake for quite a while ?

St. Croix to announce.....
That makes much more sense. Also why this was posted in the rodbuilding forum. I was very concerned!

St. Croix to announce.....
That would be a shame, but I can't imagine they'd do it unless necessary for financial reasons. I'm a strictly St Croix guy and I'd probably buy one last Avid before considering other options for future purchases. Would the blanks be done in Mexico and rods finished in USA? Are the Mojos, etc. currently done that way? I'd like to think they lower the price a bit to compensate but know that wouldn't happen.

New in Milwaukee
I'm from Madison and will be moving back soon after graduate school. I can't make it to any of the expos this year unfortunately. The only one I've been to is the Madison expo which caters to all species, but I'd like to go to a musky-centric one in the future. I fish up north 90% of the time but I have caught two musky in Madison in my two attempts so I do enjoy it there.

New in Milwaukee
Welcome. You may have some trouble finding any "reservoirs" in the Milwaukee area ?. There's a good number of natural lakes in the suburbs, from what I know they're pretty busy with recreational boat traffic (no surprise). Couldn't tell you anything about the bass fishing since I'm only familiar with Pewaukee since it's got musky. Maybe someone else has got more info, if you look around online I'm sure you'll find something. Otherwise just get out there and find out for yourself!

New G. Loomis E6X 783C MBR 6’6” best sensitive rod under $200?
You'll find many fans of St Croix Avid or Avid X at $200.

Confused on Regulations
This is how I read it. Before leaving the lake they need the whole fish to check if fish are under/over length limits, and once you've left they need whole fillets to be able to count the number of fish and check possession limits.

Reels....do you stick with one brand?
Ive got a few different kinds. Like anything else in life, even if ive got something i like i still try other things to see if theyre even better. I can't imagine being one of those guys who has like 5 or 10 of the exact same reel.

Rod Holders
I've got two of the cabelas brand holders that are the same as these scottys. They seemed higher quality and more stout than the atwood one i looked at.

What are your fishing goals for 2019?
I want to catch a fish big enough to justify a replica mount based on my own size goals. Could be a smallmouth 21", walleye 30", pike 40", musky 50". It also depends where i catch it because some lakes will just never get to a 50" musky so id consider a 47" a trophy. The cabin walls need some fish mounts!

Damage or just a scuff?
I would just keep fishing it but let your buddy know if it gets worse and turns out to be real damage that he's responsible. Then maybe pursue the warranty program at that point. Lesson learned about letting others try your stuff.

Looking for a decent two piece?
I've got a Premier 2-piece that's been great, its a 7' ML spinning. They don't make a 7' MH 2-piece so I'd second the recommendation for PC66MHF2 if you're after good sized pike.

Black Friday Purchases
Pflueger Summit XT for half price that Replaces an old Shimano Spirex. Also got some Get Bit Baits tubes (not on sale). I'm anticipating a trip to Sturgeon Bay next spring and heard good things about them, and they're made right there in GB.

What is a good suitable spinning rod that I should get?
Based on your location, rod length, and reel choice I'd assume you're using this for saltwater or surf fishing? This forum may not be the best spot for that but I'm sure someone can help you out.

Crappie 101
I was also surprised by this. I use a 6' St Croix Light action rod that works pretty well. I only fish crappies one way with a bobber set-up, but one thing I've found is that tungsten ice-fishing jigs work very well. They are heavier than the same size lead so you can stay small but the additional weight helps greatly with casting distance. We just throw some tiny crappie minnows on the jigs.

What are you putting on your fishing Christmas list?
A musky lure and a cup holder that fits in existing rod holder mounts for the front of the boat. Just bought myself a reel and I'll save small purchases for excuses to shop for myself.

Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
20"+ is where they start to put some weight on and get some muscle. I just enjoy their signature fight that tells you its a walleye. They stay down deep and somehow pump the rod, definitely no long runs like a pike or aerial display like a bass.

Best Lew's Reel for around $100?
Get the MB! Ive got one and like it.

Monofilament line
Another fan of Sufix Siege here. I use 10 lb on my casting setup for lipless cranks, spinnerbaits, even some regular cranks. I also use 8 or 10 lb for leaders on my spinning setups. I also had some Sufix Elite but I think Siege is a little less stretchy and supposed to be more abrasion resistant.

BPS/Cabelas?
I like Cabela's Mean Eye Jigs for plastic swimbaits. They've got a good amount of color options and a nice bait keeper.

Labeling Your Fishing Rods/Reels With Line Size?
The lews tournament Pro G reel (and new replacement tourney Pro LFS) have a line indicator on the spool tension knob which I always thought was kind of a cool feature. Surprised it's not available on other Lew's reels below the $200 mark.

Spinning Reel Sizes
Theyre different sizes. Theres no standard between the brands. Youre best off looking at line capacity and weight to compare similar sizes. I just got a summit xt 30 size which is more similar to a shimano 2500.

The latest sale thread
Pflueger Summit XT (Cabela's exclusive) is supposed to be 50% off in stores starting Wednesday according to the Black Friday Cabela's/BPS flyer I saw online. Likely clearing it out since it's a Cabela's product. It is similar to the president, but I can't guarantee the same quality/longevity is there. My dad is happy with his so far, I plan on picking one up.

Possible new PA state record released
It was actually this year in the spring 2018 tournament. Biggest fish in the tournament's history. My PB of 4.25 lbs is from one of only two trips I took to Sturgeon Bay. I need to get back there but don't have the time.
