Dobyns Ultra Finesse/BFS rods out now
Hey @fishwizzard I was hoping you wouldn’t mind if I picked your brain a bit on a rig. I know you were working on a t rig curly tail and I’m working on something kind of similar with a 3.6 flat worm I make. I have the 1/O twistlock and am wondering if I want to go to the finesse twistlock instead. This worm has a flat side that will cause rocking back and forth on the way down and I am trying to control the fall rate. I think I would like the lighter wire hook. Then again, I like the stouter hook on the regular 1/0 twistlock. I tried my own makeshift rig as well. I took a #1 vmc neko hook, put it on a split ring and added an owner twistlock. It worked but I would like to get rid of that split ring if I can. Bottom pic is my DIY. I’m also throwing around the idea of just getting that Phenix light. I know I will like it but it is extra money I could put towards a plastic mold. @FryDog62 I know you have both. Would you just use the Feather light for this rig? I’m thinking that I could have the Dobyns BFS be my 1/32 Ned, the Feather Light be my flat worm and then my Feather ML be my 1/15 Nedlockz rod. I only carry 6 rods in our team tournaments so I need to be versatile with my finesse presentations. I think an added benefit is that the Feather Light might be able to drop shot as a secondary option when we aren’t pounding the banks.

Dobyns Ultra Finesse/BFS rods out now
I caught some more dinks on a weightless 3.6 finesse presentation. The rod performed well again but I have yet to catch anything with any size. I’m hoping to get out in the boat this weekend and get away from this small city pond.

Sprayed Grass Plastics
I like the side that is more transparent green with the green flake. From what I’ve seen I really need to get that side that turned out looking more green pumpkin to stay more of a smoke color. I like that side to be more transparent with the purple flake. Thanks for the feedback.

Sprayed Grass Plastics
This was my first attempt at sprayed grass and I’ve got some work to do. I haven’t made a lot of laminates yet so I am looking for some feedback. To me, the smoke side took on too much of the green and can look more green pumpkin from some angles. I think I need to lighten up on the green side to balance it out and also maybe shoot a little cooler. Any other thoughts or suggestions? What do you all like to see from your sprayed grass?

Looking for a new baitcaster in the $200 range
I can only speak to the ‘20 Tatula SV TW but I will say that I have had a positive experience with my 3. I don’t think it will win many distance competitions but I really have to work to backlash. I skip lures quite a bit and believe that the SV spool helps. I also think the SV is very “light lure” friendly when paired with an appropriate rod. Not sure about the sound issue as I have not had that experience. For me, the reel does better with FC or mono than braid but I still use braid quite a bit and am plenty happy. FC just jumps off is all.

Dobyns Ultra Finesse/BFS rods out now
Finally on the board fishing from the bank in Iowa with the Sierra/Alphas Air TW combo! 38 degrees out at the time but we got the job done! I was running a Rebel Super Teeny Wee-R with 6# InvisX. That tip folded in a hurry but I was able to see that nice backbone. I hope to get in some single hook presentations this weekend.

Hey if you have a #2 Ticonderoga looking that good you have to show it off.

Dobyns Ultra Finesse/BFS rods out now
Well, good news is the Sierra Ultra Finesse came in today. The bad news is that we have 50mph gusts here so the field test will have to wait. I remember when I first bought my ML Phenix Feather... I was positive I was going to snap that thing in no time. You can imagine my anxiety already with this one. ?

@BaitFinesse can you educate me on this one? In what way does the solid tip influence techniques?

Dobyns Ultra Finesse/BFS rods out now
@FryDog62 can you tell me a little more about what you mean? I’ve read that there is a good backbone on this (which I was thinking was a lot of the point of BFS). Are you saying that it just takes too long to hit that backbone so the rod is not fast enough? I’m not going to worry either way. This will make the perfect city pond and stream rod if I can’t get my weekend warrior bass applications out of it. palming that thing is going to be a dream! I really have no idea what to expect at this point but I am confident that it will be fun if nothing else.

Dobyns Ultra Finesse/BFS rods out now
Shoot. Lol. This video, and the current $152.99 sale price, got me. Looks like I am going to have to move my Zillion SV back to the MLF Feather to free up the Alphas Air TW. I’ll probably give it a go with the Steez CTSV as well for comparison and leave some feedback.

Did you get your rod in? I have an Alphas Air TW on a Phenix Feather and I am strongly considering replacing the rod with this 7’4”. Would appreciate any initial thoughts you have.

Is this line no longer in production or is it really just sold out everywhere?

Chatterbait Sizes & Retrieve Depth
I apologize as I wasn’t very clear. I’m talking about slow rolling it just to the point of where the vibration occurs. I realize you can burn it or drag it but I’m talking about a relatively consistent slow retrieve.
-
Chatterbait Sizes & Retrieve Depth
I fish quite a bit of the 3/8 Chatterbait and might be interested in adding some 1/2 and 3/4 to my box. Has anyone found information on how much deeper each will run? For the purpose of the conversation, let’s assume the trailer, line and retrieve speed are the same. TIA!

Dobyns Champion 735 and Sierra 735
Hi @Mike L quick question. Isn’t the SA 735C an extra fast? I’m looking at this rod for single hook topwater and heavy Chatterbait. Sounds like this could be a good option but that extra fast has me worried. I don’t own any Dobyns. Are they typically rated a little higher/faster than other rod companies?

Rod Suggestion: 1 1/4 Chatterbait / Frog
I fish as a co-angler in a small club so I like to bring no more than 6 rods with me. I’m trying to find a way to fish heavy Chatterbait and topwater on the same rod. I know that many like a glass rod and a moderate taper for Chatterbait but Chatterbait is my confidence bait that I’ve had a lot of success with and prefer the 3/8 on a MH F. Bad experience with glass! Anyway, I’m thinking I can find a 7’3”ish heavy rod that can do both. I would like a little bit of a tip for throwing the Chatterbait and slowing my roll when I’m hook setting a frog. am I being too contradictory here? Any thoughts/suggestions? TIA

Dobyns Ultra Finesse/BFS rods out now
Did you get this rod in yet? I just ordered an Alphas Air TW to pair up with another Feather MLF but this rod has me wide-eyed. BTW, I paired my Steez CTSV up with another Feather per some of your advice last year and caught a lot of fish.

Good nugget... thanks for sharing.

JDM Shipping times
Interesting! I went through Digitaka. Would be nice to receive something that first time you buy something in yen. might give me a hint of peace of mind and feel a little less sketchy. lol ?

JDM Shipping times
Do JDM retailers typically provide tracking information or do they just show up one day? I purchased a Daiwa Alphas Air TW yesterday (PayPal) and have not received any tracking information. I probably just need to be more patient.

Rod & Line: 4” Paddletail on Owner Beast & Flashy Swimmer
I took up making my own swimbaits as a hobby to get my fishing fix in the winter months while I wait for open water up here in the Midwest. I’ve been looking for hooks on this 4” and am considering the 4/O Beast and 3/O Flashy Swimmer. I’m a little conflicted on which direction to go with the rod and line. I know I’ll get comments to stay within rod weight limit and I’ll be fine but I’m hoping for a little more than that. I also do not have the luxury of time or rod collection to just test around and see what feels right. Do I want a softer tip with the single weedless hook? Can I get away with FC? I know these are a little thicker hooks and would guess I would want a stiffer rod if I’m running FC. Maybe a softer tip with braid? The Beast is weighing in at 14g and the Flashy Swimmer at 17g. Any specific rod recommendations? I have zero experience with paddletails. Be gentle lol. Thanks for your time. Edit: I have one of the new Daiwa Tat SV TWs that I’ll be using for the rod.

Does anyone have a $5 discount code for tackle warehouse? I’m $3 off from being able to use my PayPal to buy a new rod. Help a guy out!

Sad I don’t know...
I was so embarrassed to ask this. I feel a little better now knowing that there is more confusion out there. I’m sold though. It has to be fed over. I wish my Steez CT SV picture was a little better. That reel emphasizes the importance of going over. Looking at a Tatula SV TWS on its own, I can see where there would be confusion.
