I just got that same kit, it will be my first build also. I bought the tool kit last year to start centerpin rods but have yet to build one.

BPS has some decent sales going on right now. Cabelas should have some sales coming before long. I usually wait on decent sales or coupon before spending my gift cards or points (just more bang for the buck).

Look at the cabelas kits. Their rods are good for the price. A reel is basically just to hold the line on unless you are finding steelhead. A 6 weight rod and line will be about the most versatile for trout. Dries to streamers are manageable and can get you into bass and Spanish too.

Bellaire is a trophy musky lake. If you run into one it will probably be a bruiser. Guys I muskie fish with have battle some real nice smallies that smacked their muskie offerings...
