Line Diameter - Are Bass that Wary?
One of the lakes I fish is very clear. I use light line here, and I think it works better. On the same lake, I cast Spooks, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, and rattletraps with a casting rod and 15lb line. Slow bottom crawling baits give spooky fish more time to study the bait, and possibly reject it. I use lighter line on these types of baits.

Marital problems...
I've been married for 41yrs. I always looked at like this. Marriage is a commitment, and people are only human. We all have good and bad days. There will be struggles and tough times. Being able to work through the hard times it why my own marriage has lasted so long. It starts with a commitment.

Did You Know?
Most all of us have seen, or fished the famous Daredevil spoons. They've been in production for 100 yrs. The Daredevil got it's start as the Osprey. Around 1918, the name was changed to the Daredevil. It was named in honor of the Teufelhunden, the 4rth U S Marine battalion, who fought the Germans at the battle of Belleau Woods in WW 1. The 4rth Marine Battalion was given this name by the defeated Germans. The name means "devil dogs". The captured and defeated German soldiers gave the Marines this name because they claimed the Marines were the bravest, toughest, hardest fighting force in the world, and, could not be defeated. A Detroit taxidermist, Louis Eppinger, invented these spoons. At the time, the word " devil" was offensive to many people. So, he changed the name to Daredevle They're still a family business, and, they still sell well over 100,000 of these spoons every year.

Kastmaster mods
Add a split ring, then add an offset soft plastic hook. Rig a plastic bait to make it weedless. A 4" section of plastic worm can be good. A plastic bait that's too big may hinder the action of some spoons.

I Am A Dog Lover
My grandfather once told me when I was young," Junior, you can tell a lot about a man's character if he mistreats his dog. He was correct. He raised many dogs in his lifetime. He had certain things he did to teach them things, and, get them to behave. But, it was kindness to his dogs that made them so good. He also told me that if someone can't properly care for a dog, they should never own one. I've had a few dogs in my lifetime. They've given my family a lot of good memories over the years. I can't stand folks who mistreat dogs in any way. So, to sum it up here, I am a dog lover, any, and all breeds. Treat them with kindness, and you'll have the best friend you could ever hope for. Are you a dog lover also?

Losing lures when casting?
Bad line, bad knots or both. Spool new line and practice your knot tying skills. Also check your rod guides

A Few Small Things
1. One of my favourite rods has a full cork grip. The cork at the bottom of this rod had become chipped and worn from years of use. WRB recommended a furniture leg as a butt cap. It was inexpensive, fit perfectly, and looks like it was made for this rod. 2.Roboworms. I'd fished them for years, always in a grape or purple color. WRB recommended the color oxblood/ red flake, as a good clear water shade. Now, it's become one of my favourite colors, and has worked well. 3. Removing old grease. One of my projects was restoring a vintage Mitchell 308 reel. When I got the reel, the gearbox was full of old dried out grease. WRB said to use WD- 40. It works very well. Now the old reel is smooth and works as it should. 4. Lines. For years, I bought monofilament lines without much thought about diameter. I've branched out now and am using some co- poly lines on spinning gear. WRB has repeatedly said to learn to look at lines based on diameter, not pound test rating. This is important, especially on spinning reels. And again, this has been great advice, and, I'll be doing this with all the lines I buy moving forward. These are small things, and all have been proven, helpful, and 100% correct. I thought I would make this post as a thank you to WRB. I respect your knowledge and experience Tom. Again, thank you.

Favorite cheap wines...
I once got sick on MD 20-20 as a kid. I threw up, then for two days tasted it. Horrible rot gut stuff. I haven't drank any wine since.

Torn between the simple, ol' days and today
I had an experienced fisherman tell me when I started that certain lures are better than others that look identical. If you see some plugs that are more scratched up and rough looking from years of use it could have been a favourite lure, or one that worked especially well. These seem to catch more fish than perfect looking new ones. After all this time, I've got some myself now.

Torn between the simple, ol' days and today
I made a couple of post not long ago about Mepps. I had some good days this summer with them. Great lures IMO.

My #1 also. Tried and true

Torn between the simple, ol' days and today
I'm like you also. I learn about new baits from some of the younger folks here on BR.

Favorite fishing books
Charlie Brewer " On Slider Fishing". Great read on light line fishing.

What Else Can I Say
I would never speak for another fisherman. His experience will be different than my own. Lots of guys here on BR have caught trophy bass. A few are Catt, A-Jay, WRB, and a few more. Hopefully they could comment again here, and say if catching all the big fish is easy? I think they'll probably disagree.

What Else Can I Say
I think the reason I didn't catch my target fish was timing. Clear water lakes often are good at night, which I wasn't able to do this year. Next year will be different. Having said that now, I also saw a 71/2 lb fish taken from this lake by an old man casting a spinnerbait from a lawn chair. So who knows? Wrong place- wrong time? Wrong bait? Wrong retrieve speed? Too many variables. I still think the bigger bass are hard to catch. If they were easy, we'd all be hauling them in every trip. But we don't.

What to add to my bank fishing arsenal?
When I first started bass fishing I was strictly a bank fisherman. I took three or more rods, and a large tackle box. That was a long time ago. Now it's one med/ hvy rod, and a small box on my belt loop. I like being mobile, and I still catch just as many if not more fish than I ever did. Travelling light is the way to go.

Jitterbug
Jonas, is you jitterbug a newer one? The new ones have a thinner metal lip. It's hard to describe how the bending will change the bait. Bending the lip inward will add more cup. But, be careful and bend it very slightly, then test it. It's easy to over bend the lip.

do you like Multitools? Leathermans and stuff.
I bought Super Tool 300 when they first came out. I carry a smaller Leatherman tool when I fish. Good reliable tools.

At What Temperature Do You Stop Fishing?
I'll try and go regardless of temps. I can dress for the cold, especially if there's no wind.
