In KC, they're using a concoction .ade from beet juice. They've said it works good.

They've been scraping the roads here this morning. The bad thing is as soon as they scrape them, they freeze and turn to ice. One guy told me that it's so called the salt treatment won't do any good?

I think service plumbers will be making some good money this weekend, fixing broken water lines. Not a fun job, but pays well.

We're frozen here in Missouri. Bitter cold, snow blowing and drifting. I work two days per week at a senior apt complex. I came in to check for broken pipes. I'll work a couple of hrs, then go home and hunker down.

My area( north Central MO) will be getting hit tonight. 3" to 5" of snow and bitter cold with wind chills near 30 below. The weatherman said this is coming from Siberia.

You can still be friends with retired guys. Most of them are ok. Theyve worked all they're lives, and now have some time to go fishing.

Catt, I'm sorry to hear about your brother. My older brother was a Vietnam vet also. He passed on in 2008. He taught me a lot about fishing when I was young, in the mid 1960s.

For anyone interested, these are still available on Mann's web site. They list 4 colors, all 3" size. I'm not sure if they're the same harder plastic as the old ones. It looks like it would work well as a Ned rig bait. I'll just use a ball head jig. I remember these being popular when I started in the early 80s. They're all but forgotten around my area now. A good time to bring them back.

I'll go first. I received these gifts early from my wife. Two thick flannel shirts from LLBean. Two spool of Yo Zuri Hybrid line in 4lb.And two pairs Carhartt thick wool socks. The clothes were needed. The line a bonus.

As a kid, I spent most of the summer on my grandfather's farm.My grandfather worked very hard to make his small farm run well, and, ran a successful farm for thirty eight years. My brother and I helped him with chores every day when we stayed there. My dad was in the military, then, worked for the civil service for almost forty years. Both had a very strong work ethic. It was a pride thing, that was instilled in us as youngsters. My first actual job was as a dishwasher in a restaurant. It was hot, dirty, greasy work, and paid 2.00 per hr, but I earned the money for my first car that way. People who grew up in the depression years, or WW2 era, usually always had a strong work ethic. It went without saying. You worked, that's all there was to it. I still think a good work ethic is important, and, I'll always feel this way. It's not about the job you do, or, how much money you make. It's about taking some pride in being a working man. If you have or had a strong work ethic, how did you develop it?

My very first truck was a green Chevy C 10 exactly like this. 250 inline 6cyl, 3 speed column transmission. I bought it from a farmer for 900 bucks. Very solid good truck. The 250 was still going strong when I sold it with 250,OOO miles on it.

I'm not surprised at the comments on sunfish. I use a soft action ultralight rod for bluegills here. It seems like they're always hungry, and easy to catch also. For they're size, they put up a good fight. Whenever I fillet a mess and fry them up, people always say they taste good too. I agree.

I'm in Missouri. I'll organize my tackle, probably more than I need to. Clean and lube my reels also. Last year I restored an old French made Mithcell 308 reel. I've since picked up a model 300 to fix up also. It's fun, and I just take my time on them. Then, patiently await springtime. It seems like it takes forever to get here.

I agree on white bass. Years ago my brother and I got into them on Bull Schools lake here in MO. Using Beetle Spins, we caught 40 or so. They were hard fighting fish.

I left a good job as a journeyman union carpenter to work for an independent contractor. After so many years in the union, it was taking it's toll physically. Hip, and knee problems mostly. It's d**n hard work. I'm glad I left the union when I did. Now I'm retired and better off.

I've been " tricked" by LM too. Fishing a black jitterbug at night. The bass would smash it right near the bank. Then, I'd lift up a 12" dink. But the way they strike it makes you think it's a hawg.

My own PB fish was a LM near 8lbs, caught years ago. I caught this one on a Mann's Jelly Worm, 6" solid black. Once hooked, this fish half rolled on the surface, then came in pretty easily. When I got her near the boat, I was amazed at the size of this fish. I expected a smaller bass. Since then, hooking fish of all sizes, Ive had 3 or 4lb fish fight much harder, tearing up the surface, jumping, and pulling hard. Everything I've read and heard over the years points to the smallmouth bass as being the harder fighting fish. One writer called the small mouth bass " pound for pound, one of the hardest fighting fish that swims". But, we never know what a fish will do, untill he's hooked, and the fight begins. Each one is different. For those that fish for both smallmouth and largemouth do you think this is correct? Is the smallmouth bass the harder fighting fish? The late Billy Westmoreland called the smallmouth"those bodacious brown bass", and said that the smallmouth was always hell bent on a good fight. Whats your opinion here? Is the smallmouth the harder fighting fish?

Catt, this is one of the best. I always liked this one in purple, and motoroil. Most shops near me don't even carry it anymore, so I've ordered direct from Mr.Twister. Hard to beat.
