There's actually several fishing lakes within a short distance of him. I'm going to support him, and tell other guys I know. He won't focus on just bass fishing, but panfish, catfish and walleye also. He's also going to have a whole lineup of live baits. I'm going to try and do what I can to help him. Still, it's a hard business

These hasn't been a tackle shop close by my house for thirty years now. I got word of a new shop opening in a small town about ten minutes from me. I stopped by yesterday and spoke with the new owner. He was busy stocking up, and getting ready to open on March 1. He told me he'll have a whole wall of bass tackle. Also, rods and reels, lines of all types, and rod/ reel repair. Also stocking hand tied jigs for bass and crappie. He's a very nice young guy, an avid fisherman, and he's made a serious investment here. I'll probably be hanging around there, sipping coffee, and talking fishing, as well as being a customer too. It's a tough business. I sure hope he makes it.
  6. You can throw them most anytime. Experiment with skirts, trailers etc. Or, no skirt with a plastic shad body or similar. Some good fish have been caught on buzzbaits in the middle of the day.
  7. When you make a post, BR would like you to pick a response as " solved by". That's your follow-up response.
  8. Congratulations to the KC Chiefs!!
  9. Yes. A tight game now.
  10. Mahomes just hurt. This can change things...
  11. Ive caught a couple on Lazy Ike's. Mine are red/ white. Some plastic and a couple wooden ones. They were made in Ft. Dodge Iowa.
  12. ABU Black Max. Not too expensive, easy to set up, and dependable.
  13. I have some old school baits. Old Heddon, Lazy Ike, Bombers etc. A few I wouldn't fish for fear of losing. Good luck with this. The old-school baits are still deadly. Have fun Old Crickety.
  14. I try to fish weedless as much as possible.Ive lost my share of stuff over the years.

In some ways, it doesn't really matter what a bass thinks our lures are, as long as they decide to eat them. Our goal is to catch them. If they think our plastic crawfish are the real thing, so be it. If we end up hooking and landing fish with them, they've done they're job.

We're always trying to feed these bass what WE think they want.
  17. Mine for the entire season will be a t rig plastic worm. It's my #1. Various models. But, I'll include plastic craws, tubes, and topwaters when that happens.
  18. Carolina Rig. It never worked well for me. So, I'm done with it - for good.

Catt, because I think about fishing so much, I've been guilty or "overthinking" things sometimes. I agree sometimes K.I.S.S. is the best way.

Especially in clear water. Bass can look things over better.

I remember one hot morning. I caught several fish on a Zoom finesse worm, on a shakey head. It got so torn up I cut it back to rig it again. After a while I reversed it and had to cut the tail back to keep it on the hook. Finally it was unusable. If I would have had a lighter I probably could have heated it and melted it back together. I put on a new identical worm, and the bite was over. These are the things I can't explain...

Somewhere in a past thread here on BR, I remember reading about someone fishing plastic crawfish baits. Two guys using the same bait. They were catching consistently, when the bite slowed down. One of them caught several more fish, on a craw bait with only one craw. The other angler put on the exact bait, tore off a claw, and caught a couple more fish, before the bite shut down. I've heard guys talk about this before. Tearing off one claw on a crawfish bait, or a couple of legs from a plastic lizard etc. The concept is to make this creature appear wounded, helpless or hurt. An easy target for bass. But, many of the baits we use are made to look hurt or helpless, which we think draws more strikes. I've never purposely torn things off my plastic baits. I just fish them as they come in the package. I do know that many times, I've caught bass on plastic worms that have already caught several fish, and are torn and rough looking. I can't explain why? Has anyone else noticed an increased bite on plastic baits that have been torn up, or missing things? If so, please explain your experience with this.
  23. A T Rig plastic worm.

Just saw this one last night. If you like war history, you will like this movie. The true story of the first black fighter pilot in the Korean war. I would recommend this one.
