  1. Mar Lynn bait company in Blue Springs Mo. It's a suburb of Kansas City. They made some good stuff years ago. Worms, jigs etc. They marketed the Puddle Jumper, which was a good finesse bass lure in the 3" size There are several companies in the Mo Ozark area also. Sometimes I wish they still made these things.
  2. Missouri angler Charlie Campbell designed a spinnerbait years ago called the CC spinner. It had one large blade. I had good luck night fishing with this one. Also worked well on the drop. The big blade puts out a lot of thump and vibration.
  3. As others have said, the ABU Black Max, or Lew's LFS are both good.
  4. I have two Lew's reels. One LFS casting reel, and one G Spin spinning reel. This will be season three for the LFS, and season two for the G spin. Both have worked perfectly, with no problems. I think these are good reels for the cost.
  5. I was able to trace my Irish ancestry back to Ireland during the famine. My grandad grew up in an orphanage in Canada. He was sent there as a young boy. They sent lots of young Irish kids to different places, mostly orphanages, some homes. No food for them at that time.I could never learn what happened to my great grandparents.
  6. I think Glenn's video is good, but luckily I've never had a problem with landowners or fishing docks.
  7. Ive been retired since 2021. I do help a friend with a general.contracting business 2 days per week. I think I fish about the same as I did when I was working full time. One benefit of being retired is, I can often fish on a Wednesday or another week day. Far less folks on the lake. The party crowd comes on Saturdays, and makes way too much noise.
  8. J Francho, thanks for being a moderator here. Always appreciated your input on things. And welcome 12 Pound Bass. Looking forward to your input also.
  9. I usually always guess the weight at less than what it actually is, just to be on the safe side.
  10. I have the same reel. I only reel with my left hand and have not had this problem.
  11. The line through style like Catt has posted are the way to go. Fish hit the old Little George, but many throw it also. I used to make a long cast, let them sink then snap them up, letting them fall again. Sometimes, just a straight slow reeling retrieve would work also. The Little George was named after Alabama governor George Wallace, back in the 1960s.
  12. I used to use a Mann's Little George a good amount. Haven't used it in a while due to snags.
  13. It's better to learn a few baits very well, than have a huge box of baits you don't really understand. Plus, most bass lures are versatile, and can be fished in different ways.
  14. This applied to me a few years ago. Now, no more. I won't allow myself to be tackle bound.
  15. Best luck to you on your new job.
  16. This is the reason I like Glenn's videos. He lets you know what bait he's using, but leaves it open so you make your own choice on what brand. Then, he sets it up with a good demonstration. For me, this is the best way to learn. The first one I watched was plastic grub fishing. All since then have been good. No hype- just fishing.
  17. I still make usually two bank trips each week during season to a small lake near home. The shoreline is a mix of things. A rock dam, dirt/ mud, weeds and mowed grass. I've seen other anglers drag bass on rocks, into weeds, and onto dirt, with the fish flopping around the whole time. Since Ive gotten older, it's become harder to bend down to the water and lip the fish I catch. Too many years as a carpenter have taken it's toll on my knees and hip. I plan on modifying a bass size boat net by cutting the handle shorter, and attaching it to my belt loop. Similar to a net wading trout fisherman use. I can keep the net behind me while I'm casting, then reach around and grab the handle, which will attach with an elastic cord. Doing this, I can net the fish when it's still in the water. Then release them. I dont like to see the bass flopping around on the bank. I don't think very many bass guys like to carry a net while shore fishing. Most seem to think a net is a hassle from the bank. I didn't have this problem when I was younger, so I think it's part of getting older. Anyone else carry a net for bank fishing? If so, what's your setup? Just trying to keep these fish in good shape, to live on, grow, and fight another day.
  18. I enjoy Glenn's videos and short videos I've seen here on BR. That's all I watch. And, I've learned things from them too. All the other videos I don't care about.
  19. Take care Glenn. Best of luck to you moving forward. Thanks for all you do.
  20. I take one rod. 1 small box of baits which hooks to my belt loop.
  21. I use more t rigs with various baits. I usually always use a short, slow hop. I always try to focus on not moving my bait too far, and keeping it moving slowly. I think slow is the key.
  22. In some ways this is true of other baits too. On my lake, I've never seen a salamander or lizard. If some live there, there's not many. But, at times bass will attack plastic lizards on this lake. I've tried realistic craw baits and other plainer ones. I can't see where all the detail and realism makes a difference. This is on the lake I fish. It may not be true everywhere.
  23. As far as craws go, I have noticed a few more fish striking plastic craws with long thin antanna. Other than that general shape and size scores.
  24. I am interested in what works on my home lake. It may not be what works in other areas.I take in info then keep it of let it go depending on if it works or not. Years ago when I started, I kept a lot of the wrong info. Now I have a much better idea of what works consistently. It took me some time to get it.
  25. I have one. Mine has a 2500 reel on it. You can use it for lots of things.
