  1. I still use an ABU 4600c quite a bit. Over 20 yrs old and still going strong.
  2. The best one for me is the original Scum Frog. Inexpensive, and works well.

Like many here, I have good memories of Holloween as a kid. We carved pumpkins, and went trick or treating. Lots of folks made home made treats back then, and we usually munched those down in a hurry. We usually made costumes from things we had at home. I was a cowboy, ghost, pirate, and some sort of monster. It was big fun for all of us. My grandkids will be going again this year. My wife and I may go with them. They go to area churches, stores, etc, and it's a safe way to trick or treat. Hoping all the BR members with children have a safe, happy Halloween. You and your kids can build some memories- which will last a lifetime.
  4. I fish clear water also. I've tried many bigger spinnerbaits in all blade/ skirt colors with little success. I've had bass follow these baits, then turn away for deep water. Smaller spinners have worked well, fished deeper. 1/4 oz Beetlespin or smaller underspin. I think in clear water, too much flash and vibration can put bass off. They're interested in these baits, and will hit them sometimes but it's easy to spook them away with large flashy blades.
  5. Hang in there. Do what the doc says. Hope you get feeling better soon.
  6. Gregorym38, once you catch a mess, you'll have to fillet them. Hands down some of the best tasting fish around.
  7. If crappie are shallow, use a small pear shape float on the line. Adjust the depth as needed. As Catt posted above, a Beetlespin or similar small spinner can work well. Try to find the correct depth, and count it down each cast. Usually, where you catch one crappie there will be more. I like the small weighted floats made by Comal tackle.
  8. When I was working full time, we had a few bad coworkers over all the years. Mostly because they drank too much, and we're not reliable. For the past few years, it became harder to get any help at all. I have a couple of friends who have shut down they're business( contracting) because they couldn't get guys to show up and work. Sad state of affairs. The construction business is full of guys like this, as are other lines of work. I know a finish carpenter who now works on his own. He can't get anyone to be reliable. He trims the entire house by himself. Doors, baseboard, crown molding, everything. It's a shame at 20 to 30 dollars per hr, he, can't get any decent help.
  9. My wife was looking for a car recently. We ended up buying a good car from an individual. While looking at lots, we pulled into one, and we're looking at one of the cars out front. A salesman came rushing out and said," I think they're working a deal on that one now, if your interested you better move quick". I told him," we'll, that means the cars sold already. We're outta here". Theyll tell you anything to sell a car.
  10. My canoe is a good boat to explore new areas. Years ago, I was fishing a lake near home, and my grandson pointed out a very small creek. We decided to pull the canoe through it. Barely enough room to get through. Went about 20yds and discovered a pond about one acre in size. We never saw it before. It was surrounded by thick trees and not visible from the main lake. I like getting off grid whenever I can.
  11. I would prefer an HMG. Lighter, faster action also.
  12. North Central Mo is very dry also. Dust everywhere. We're supposed to get rain on Mon and Tues this week. I hope so. High fire alerts have been in place for weeks now.

Vinyl tops. My first car had one. Many in the later 60s and 70s.

    An AM radio
  15. Does your med rod flex a little in the tip when you cast? Sometimes with different rod makes, there's a good amount of difference between med, and med hvy.
  16. My dad's generation( WW2), they never did this. I'm sure my dad told my mom " I love you " and he said it to grandkids and us kids also. I never saw him hug another man, or very seldom another women at all. These things have become more acceptable now. My dad's generation - a firm handshake worked. But, my dad loved people. We all knew it too. Actually saying it just wasn't his style. He was old school.

    A push button transmission.
  18. I was caught, along with a partner in a bad storm on Missouri's Truman lake many years ago. We made it back to the marina, but it was horrible. I'll never let that happen again.
  19. You may be overthinking this. Put some reels on the rods, and go fishing. Some you'll like, some not.
  20. My wife and daughters always say this when we go home, hanging up the phone, saying goodbye etc. It's a good thing to say to folks that are close to you.
  21. I imagine some guys might be using them on a mushroom head, as a Ned rig.
  22. Catt, I did this as an experiment on a slow hot day. I caught five fish this way, but don't ever do this normally. No fish were harmed. I was curious how long they would hold on to a plastic bait. When I fish worms, I always take up slack and set the hook quickly.
  23. Light t rig worm
  24. Over the summer, I fished a dropoff about 15 ft off a bank using plastic worms. As an experiment, when a fish picked up the worm, I dropped the rod and waited with slack in the line. The longest time a fish held the plastic worm was 40 seconds. They would strike the worm, then just sit there and not move. After 40 seconds, I took up slack line and set the hook. I believe they would have sat there with the bait even longer, if I had not hooked them. These were not big fish, and most were around 14" to 16" in length. I'm not sure if large bass will do this also, and I don't have an explanation for this? The best explanation I have is competition among these fish for food. When they get the bait, they sit there and hold it in one spot, making sure another bass can't get it. Some will swim off slowly after a period of time. Others start to swim off as soon as they pick up the plastic worm.I think it's one of those things, that only the fish know the reason they do this. We'll probably never know exactly why? Have you had this experience also?
