  1. Closest salt-water relative is the lobster.
  2. Minnehaha Creek is navigable by canoe from it's source at the Grays Bay dam on Lake Minnetonka all the way to the Mississippi...with a short portage around the Minnehaha Falls. Supposedly some good fishing in there too. (Being fairly quiet until I get the power supply in my desktop replaced...typing on the tablet is a pain)
  3. Had to get this - the price was right. Used from AL and it appears almost pristine. Got it for $70 including tax and shipping.
  4. And it has begun - clip from my phone this morning
  5. The action will be faster - less of the 'easily bendable' length is available. If it was a Fast, it might be an Extra-Fast now. If enough of the length was lost...it might be a broomstick.
  6. Strength....not too much of a change. Action however will change quite a bit based on how much you lost. It's going to get faster.
  7. Not always - kitchen sink here was plumbed reverse before I moved in...never got around to switching it proper. I do know what I'm doing - replaced the water heater a few years back and since the old one had been hard-plumbed, I had to sweat in new couplers. I do all the plumbing and electrical maintenance on my place - learned from my dad 50 or so years ago.
  8. That's not how gravity works - when two items are both of a compact size, both will accelerate at 32ft/sec/sec. Air resistance is negligible for small, compact items like weights - drop both at the same time, and they'll hit the ground at the same time. It's like Galileo's gravity experiment - do it in a vacuum where there's no air resistance and a feather will fall at the same speed as a bowling ball.
  9. Ya, the bite is transmitted through the line.
  10. AL has the Stradics on sale - flash sale - use the code https://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/featured-products/stradic-169.html?utm_source=ALFC+Newsletter&utm_campaign=74c5ac5c5f-Newsletter_October_16_201610_16_2016_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_2400964bb9-74c5ac5c5f-130264361&mc_cid=74c5ac5c5f&mc_eid=b8209227be
  11. Or at least put the clamp on the hook instead of the fish. Tare out the scale first. Can still 'slip' and damage the gills.
  12. ^ What he said. If you're using a 3-bank, 12v system - disconnect the batteries from each other and charge them separately. If you want to keep them connected, you need a 36v charging system.
  13. Nice day, and nice fish Nope - MN laws restrict their usage to only 2 hooks or lures for the entire rig - and those have to be within 9" of each other as measured up one arm to the junction and down the other arm. So pretty much useless for it's intended purpose, though the other arms can have hookless baits/lures. But with only a 40% chance of the fish attacking a hook on a 5-arm A-Rig...well...
  14. Well - I've only had it open twice so far...might loosen up with more use We got temps in the upper-20s to low 30s overnights now, highs in the 40s and 50s...not conducive to launching/landing the canoe since I get my feet wet everytime.
  15. Tires: Can't afford two sets, can't afford 'high priced' - so my last change was to a set of Cooper Evolution M/Ts...yes, even the spare got replaced. Served me well last winter - should be fine this one as well. Sideplate opens just like my Supreme then - it takes a bit, but I'm not too worried. I don't think there's much difference between the Patriarch and the XT - kind of like there's not much difference between my President and Pres-XT. I've been using nothing but mag-brakes since my Ambassaduer 500R 30 some years ago - so centrifugal are an entirely new thing for me. Of course, it'll be next spring before I get to 'learn' all about it.
  16. I've done my first 'winter' purchase already...wife let me 'borrow' against the Yule gift from the parents. Found a used Pflueger Patriarch for $70 on AL - yes, ordered it. Now I get to learn how to use centrifugal brakes...
  17. Well, I've pitched/punched with 1oz weights, a Flipping hook and a 1/3oz plastic using my Fuego loaded with 50# braid without an issue on an Aird-X H/F (rated to 1-1/2oz). The rod you're getting is rated to that, so I think you'll be fine.
  18. Little searching turned up this page for Ohio http://www.crayfishstudies.com/Crayfish_%26_shrimps_of_Ohio.html
  19. Most states DNR/F&W/whatever puts out a similar thing....here's the one for Minnesota's species
  20. X4 on the Fuego - the MagForce-Z braking system is MUCH better than any other magnetic brake out there. And as Red said - it's pretty much a Tatula CT without the T-Wing...same frame, spool, main gears, etc.
  21. Answered already on previous page...but again Couple budget rods - 7'0" Aird-X MH/F as my main and a 7'0" Laguna MH/F as my secondary.
  22. They claim to be high-carbon steel - but I never heard of them before either. https://www.shaddockfishing.com/collections/fishing-hooks I'd stick with VMC or Mustad for lower priced hooks. Owner if you want to spend a little more.
  23. Look over the hook sizes used for the Rapala cranks - measure the length and weight of the ones you have, then look for the closest 'style' to what you have. Rapala gives the hook sizes for their lures - put you close enough. https://www.rapala.com/rapala/lures-by-type/crankbaits/?id=1
