Shallow cranks
Rapala Crankin Raps CRR-3 is the best squarebill I have found, they discontinued them but you can still find them on Ebay. A close 2nd for me would be the KVD 2.5's, Strike King also makes a shallow squarebill, it only dives to 2 feet I think and is deadly cranking over submerged weeds a couple feet down.

Coping with the crowds this year
Yep, same thing here in Iowa! I was wondering if I was the only die hard annoyed by all this extra fishing pressure. Ive never seen anything like it in 35 years of fishing. I fish alot of ponds and this is the first year Ive seen paths worn around them. I wont even get into the extra amount of trash this is generating now or the fact that I went to 4 places one Saturday looking for 6lb mono and they were all sold out of it! Our local Fleet Farm has completey been picked clean in the fishing department also.

Have you ever caught your own lure?
One night I was throwing a Rapala jointed minnow from shore, cant remember the exact size but it was one of the larger ones. Somehow it broke off on my cast. The next summer I was fishing the same place and found it in some moss, hooks were all rusted out and it had alot of mud and dirt on it. I couldnt believe I actually found something a year later.

Question about jig size for minnow gulps.
I use 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 for the 3 inch gulps on the rivers I fish depending on current. I use 1/16 and 1/32 for the 2.5 inch gulps while crappie fishing.

Things that really frustrate me about some fishermen.
I was fishing at a spillway once and got tired of walking in filth, so I got some trash bags and filled 7 bags full of garbage. I went back a week later and it was just as bad as when I cleaned it. Thats when I realized its a complete lost cause to even care anymore.

Is anyone else getting tired of the Squad?
I'm all for promoting kids and fishing, but these idiots are promoting fishing in places where they shouldn't and constant confrontation with property owners and law enforcement.. Thats not the kind of example they should setting for kids.

Is anyone else getting tired of the Squad?
Oh look, one of them has a new video where they get the threatened to have the cops called on them yet again for fishing private property. I've been fishing for over 30 years and not once have I ever been in a situation where the cops have been called, but these little punks manage to do it almost on a daily basis. How many millions of acres of water are there in Canada, but these punks manage to find the ones where they know people are going to get upset and cause drama. Great example they are setting for younger fisherman! Whatever drives your Youtube channel and gets you clicks I guess.

Gotcha, yeah, right now its probably weeds so I would just throw a T-Rig or a Wacky rigged senko and work it from the deep water up those small dropoffs into the weeds. Bass should be laying in the weeds where there is also access to deeper water close. Really, you can probably catch bass all around this pond as it looks like its pretty small and has a nice 3-4 foot ledge most of the way around it.

It looks like this image is from March so that time of year its just a depth change. In the summer I would expect all of that brown area you see around the pond to grow weeds. Most new ponds in developments are staggered this way with almost a terrace-like appearance when they first create the pond.

A bunch of punk kids. The one in question in the pictures here has an extremely punchable face. Ive watched alot of their videos and they seem to thrive off conflict just to get subscribers, he loves to fish "private" waters without permisison that they shouldnt be in, has gotten the cops called on him numerous times, and was kicked off a flight at the airport in one of their videos. There is another one where they just decide to start doing some diving on a jetty in Lake Michigan and promptly get the coast guard called on them. Another video I saw the hotel asked him to move his boat because it was taking up half the parking lot and he strung his charging cord in a bad spot. Instead of just moving his boat he has to start a bunch of drama and gets kicked out. I would never give a dime to these little punks, their baits are nothing new most people can spend far less money and catch the same amount of fish.

GOOGAN POP UP
I would never give any of my money to these punk kids. One of them makes a habit of getting the cops called on him in his videos because he is fishing in illegal places, another one lives at home in mom's basement while he drives around $100,000 worth of pickup and boat. $6 for a 6 pack of worms is a scam if I've ever seen one, but whatever you need to do to make money I guess.

Ashamed to say...
Jigs!! I've never caught a bass on them in my entire life. Numerous times I've been hammering them on a senko so I'll switch over to jigs thinking this will actually be the day I catch something, the bite turns completely off. All my jigs are weedless and every once in awhile I'll feel a bass hit it, but I have yet to hookup. Frogs would be a close second, Ive caught a few on them over the years, but my hookup/strike ratio has to be less than 10%.

Soft Plastics + Hot Car
I leave mine in my trunk all summer so I dont have to keep emptying it every time I fish. The only thing that happens is they sometimes will get softer and if you have colors mixed they will start bleeding into each other.

Bass Gear for River Fishing?
Thank you, this was the advice I was hoping to hear. No, Im definitely not targeting Largemouth Bass at this spot. Im not really targeting any specific species, I just rig up some gulp minnows on 1/8 or 1/4oz jigheads and see what I can catch.

Bass Gear for River Fishing?
Well, I assumed my Carbonlite wasnt designed to withstand 30lb Buffalos making multiple runs day after day after day. The biggest bass Ive ever caught is 6lbs and Im hooking into fish 4 and 5 times that size. I live within a 5 minute walk so its probably a spot Ill be fishing often. Im very well versed and have years of experience with baitcasters and their drag systems. I guess my question is do you guys use your expensive bass gear on a spot thats going to be chock full of catfish and rough fish, or save it for my bass trips?

Bass Gear for River Fishing?
I've been bass and panfishing lakes and ponds for years. I have a number of BPS and Shimano baitcasters. I recently moved and now have a 5 minute drive to an extremely productive river in my state with multiple dams where fish stack up. My question is in regards to using your nice bass gear on the river. I've been using my Carbonlite 2.0 and PRO Qualifiers as they are the cheapest baitcasters I have. I've already hooked into a number of Buffalo, Catfish, and Wipers larger than any bass I can catch in the area. Do you guys that fish for other species use your nice bass gear on the river also? I'm afraid of my gear taking a complete beating. Would you guys go buy some cheaper stuff to use that wont be that big of a deal if its trashed? I have a couple spinning outfits also that I could use but the line capacity is only 8lbs compared to my baitcasters with 12lb test.

Is a 5' UL rod too small for bank fishing?
Get some 1/32 or 1/16th ounce jigs instead. I catch thousands of panfish every year on those two jig sizes and 2.5 inch gulp minnows. If you are missing alot of bluegills they are probably the smaller ones nipping at it. You have to get lucky to hook the smaller ones with that setup, they usually require even smaller hooks and baits. The 2.5 inch gulp should catch plenty of crappie, bigger gills, and the occasional bass though.

Tips for me to get my PB this summer?
I've been lucky enough to catch 5 bass over 6lbs since I started fishing heavily in 2014. Here are what i caught them on and the scenario. 1. Live bluegill under a bobber while fishing for catfish 2. BPS popper(those same ones that are $1.99 in the bargain bin at BPS), caught it while it was raining working right along the outside of the weedline. 3. 5 inch senko wacky rigged, caught in morning along an old roadbed 4. 5 inch senko wacky rigged, tossed it up into some rocks off a rock jetty 5. Luckycraft squarebill, working a weedline from my boat My biggest was caught by accident in a deep rock quarry, my 2nd best was caught out of a pond only 6 feet deep. My 3rd, 4th, and 5th biggest were all caught in the same lake, one that is known for big bass in the area and has a slot limit.

Favorite 1.5 Shallow Diving Crank ?
LuckyCraft RC 1.5 and Rapala Crankin Rap #3 are my two favorite squarebills. The KVD's would be a distant 3rd, Ive given them a fair shake, I just dont catch as many bass on them.

Those poor guys!
I was jetty fishing from shore near a boat ramp the other day. All of a sudden I hear a boat making alot of noise so I look over and see the "mother of all powerloads" going on. He had to have his motor full throttle trying to muscle it onto the trailer. I see them kicking up a bunch of mud in the water so they probably contributed to a nice washout hole. They finally get it situated after probably using a gallon of gas, the guy says "Good job, you're getting alot better at this".

Fishing as therapy
Absolutely! In 2012 I got really sick and could barely get out of bed for days at a time. I was off work for almost 2 years. I slowly started gaining some energy back and my doctor suggested a find a hobby that would be stress free and not physically taxing. So I started by taking a lawn chair to some fishing docks and fishing stationary all day. As I gained some more energy I slowly started walking 50 feet at a time and trying different spots, fast forward 6 years later I have a boat, kayak, baitcasters, probably $500 worth of crankbaits and Ive probably fished over 100 different bodies of water in my state. For me it was therapy because it allowed my mind to focus on something positive instead of how bad I was feeling. I still feel that way now, when Im on the water all my problems dont seem like huge problems anymore. Plus, nothing works better at getting me through the workday when I know fishing is waiting for me that evening.

How to fish a boat ramp.
Step 1, if its busy with boats launching turn around and find somewhere else to fish. Step 2, if you absolutely have to fish it dont bring your kids, setup 8 poles, lawn chairs and coolers right on the dock, and then get offended when boaters are using it for its intended purpose.

Summer Fishing with Senkos!

Old Bass Pro line of rods, underrated?
I have a 6'0/M Extreme spinning rod that Ive used for 4 years now. I absolutely love it for throwing Texas Rigged worms and it also doubles as my river fishing rod for walleye.
