  1. We used the smell hooks and attached with a snap swivel because we were wild casters. They were here easy for dad to break off if we caught a trophy limb.
  2. Move to north Alabama and you’ll have access to the Tennessee River, Guntersville, Pickwick, Smith, Weiss and the Coosa chain, etc. You’ll be able to fish for largemouth, smallmouth, spots, strippers, white, and hybrid bass, catfish, different species of panfish, and crappie.
  3. I love the Christmas tree for Swimsenkos and told Gary Yamamoto when I met him at the Classic. I definitely fan boi’d when I met him. I was star struck ?
  4. I’m not far from where the Mon Santo plant was in Alabama. I don’t eat the fish.
  5. Two years ago my dad almost died after Father’s Day from complications from a botched hernia repair and was in a medically induced coma from June through August and again from December through February. We just lost my father-in-law last week from complications of a brain tumor. These things come out of nowhere and are unexpected. Don’t take anything for granted.
  6. I played for UAB. I take pot shots at bama all the time. But, offer still stands. I can arrange a meet and eat/drinks when the Classic is down here.
  7. Birmingham isn’t “cool,” but there’s a great food and beer scene that’s going on.
  8. I think I’ve read somewhere it has to do with the size of the salt in the Senko. Most companies use a larger grain of salt and Yamamoto uses a very fine grain of salt like popcorn salt.
  9. I’m not catching any and I haven’t caught a big one.
  10. I’m not wanting to get this topic cranking, we’re gonna have to stop this because we’re chattering like space monkeys.
  11. I had luck for several seasons with an oxblood red finesse worm on a shaky head.
  12. I’m willing to bet that many of those previously successful anglers that are struggling in the MLF/BPT format will jump back to BASS or FLW. KVD is barely making any money from BPT tournaments, he was making bank in BASS.
  13. I’m afraid that today or tomorrow is it. We didn’t have a chance to be able to take him fishing, he was not mentally or physically able to even be out of bed. I’ve not fished yet this year, but when I was at the Classic I bought a Stanford Boom Boom frog in the Officer Frog color pattern since he was with the local PD for over 30 years. I want to catch my first bass on that since it’s black and blue. I told him I bought it because of him being with the department for so much of his life and retiring as Captain.
  14. I guess my most expensive lures are Stanford Boom Boom frog and a Boom Boom Popping frog.
  15. I’ve caught a few on black baby brush hogs skipping them under docks. I have a bag of green pumpkin magic babies but haven’t been out since I picked them up.
  16. Starts Friday, March 6, and goes until Sunday the 8th. Now Lake G is a little more than an hour from the BJCC if you want to go to the expo.
  17. Does anybody throw a buzzbait or topwater all day?
  18. Now is the time to buy stock in Spro, Stanford, Booyah, and Strike King for all of the frogs they’re gonna go through.
  19. And the HQ being in the same city doesn’t hurt.
  20. Why would you use a buzz toad or a buzz shad in place of a regular skirted buzz bait?
  21. I’m somewhat local to the area and can set up a meet and eat somewhere that shouldn’t be too crowded those days. I could suggest restaurants and hotels for those traveling from out of town. Right now most of the interstate system going through Birmingham is demolished and being built, I’m hoping that it is open then. Should be.
  22. If I go to a certain wildlife management area in northeast Alabama, I’ll wade in the middle of the creek and fly fish for fun. It’s easy to get to and I know the area. But, I’ll carry a small .22 revolver loaded with shot shells instead of a solid bullet. I’ve had water moccasins want to get cuddly. I try to stay out of their way and brush them back with the rod. I’ve not had to use the revolver yet.
  23. Well, for MLF you’re catching a lot of males so the female Velcro will work better. For FLW and BASS you’d catch the big mamas with male Velcro. ?
