  1. @Fishingintheweeds That appears to be a spotted bass. They fight harder than a largemouth in my experience. They don't take kindly to being caught and will continue to thrash and fight until they’re released.
  2. A 90 series Whopper Plopper caught me a 2.5lb spotted bass this morning at sunrise on my 2nd cast. ?
  3. I went to a few local tackle shops this week and struck up conversations with the workers and other patrons. All of them have mentioned how tough the bite has been and several have mentioned going 0-fer. They did say that sometimes there would be bites on shaky head if there was a bite.
  4. Lake Logan Martin. It’s part of the Coosa chain (famous for the Alabama spotted bass/Coosa bass/spotted bass).
  5. No. I had to move from my hometown for a job and I don’t know anybody around here. There was a BASS opens tournament here the weekend before this. Similar conditions, no change in weather. Finals day, I want to say only 3 or 4 had a limit. And that’s including Keith Poche and the guy that won the Forrest Wood Cup maybe two years ago.
  6. At 10am this morning it was 86 degrees and high humidity. Heat index was already at 95. Its hot out there.
  7. Caught my PB of 6.5 pounds. I don’t know if I can justify a divorce for a new PB largemouth. I’m actually about to load up and beat the bank. It is what I normally do, and have done this summer as I’ve not had a chance to put the boat in. Such is life.
  8. Yes, my attitude is rather negative. I’ve had some life stressors change me from my usual happy-go-lucky demeanor. Well, how I have reacted to them has changed me. I usually have other things on my mind when I fish, which causes me to just go through the motions. I’m going to go buy a medium/fast spinning rod or combo tomorrow so I can use that instead of a medium/moderate for shaky head and put the boat in.
  9. Today was about a 2hr trip, long enough to hit all of the piers and structure around the slough. I’ve gone out before sun rise so I can try a topwater bite when the sun comes up, been out at mid morning past lunchtime, mid afternoon through sunset.
  10. I’ve thrown everything in my tackle box. I’ve caught the fish on this summer: black baby brush hog Junebug Trick worm Whopper Plopper I foul hooked the spotted bass on the WP, somehow it got a treble hook under its chin. I’ve probably caught less than 3 pounds of fish total.
  11. Got skunked again today throwing a green pumpkin finesse worm. I’ve only caught 3 fish all summer minus the 4 on my honeymoon. I came home and the wife asked how it went. “It sucked,” was all I could muster. She asked a question that made me think. “Then why do you go?” It’s just frustrating getting skunked so many times. I’ve been fishing about 3 dozen times this summer. Caught 3 dinks.
  12. Why not go with a Trilene knot or improved clinch?
  13. Sorry, I’m not close enough to fish with ya.
  14. I had that same rod since 2008ish until last year when somebody stole it.
  15. I’m considering buying a spinning rod that’s better suited for shaky head and weightless Senkos than the one I have currently. What are y’all using? Rod, reel, line, and jig heads?
  16. Most of my rods and reels are Bass Pro lines since all of my rods and reels were stolen last year. I do have two, what I consider nice, baitcasting rigs. Both are St. Croix Mojo Bass rods with Lew’s LFS reels, one MHF and the other Med/Mod for jigs/Texas rig and treble hook lures, respectively. I’m thinking about buying another spinning rig for shakey head by going with a St. Croix Mojo Med/Fast rod and Lew’s spinning reel. I don’t know if I want to stick with that similar of a setup or go with a G Loomis E6X and a Shimano reel.
  17. I like my St. Croix Mojo Bass Glass rod, it’s Med/Mod. It’s differe than using a graphite rod, that’s for sure.
  18. I’m new to this area, don’t know anybody, and don’t know where good parts of the lake are.
  19. I have a medium moderate rod for my treble hook lures. I enjoy it when that is doubled up fighting a 3lb largemouth.
  20. “Wasn’t working” as in the buzzer went off and we decided not to run it until it was fixed. It also wasn’t peeing, but that was probably a combination of the melted impeller and the dirt dobber nest. It also wouldn’t start back up. It does work now that we’ve changed out the housing and impeller. ?
  21. Glad that y’all got them out without a whole lot of damage. This is what happens when your dad grips it and rips it when you’re 5. Hook went in right at the crease in that joint. The hook also left the crease of that joint. ?
  22. I’m going to visit a small state park later on this week or next week and was wanting to bounce around some thoughts. It has a manmade lake that is only 250 acres, a mile and a half long and half a mile wide. Deepest point is 48 feet. I can park park near the entrance letter E or the north trail head. There are 3 fishing piers and I can beat the bank wherever. I’m thinking about starting out at those fingers at the north side and working my way down to the fork at #4 and fish up the other side towards 3. Looking at going south, going down to the dam and to the outlet at #1 and go up towards #2.
  23. Are you familiar with highway 77 between Lincoln and Talladega? There is a pull off at the bridge, I never see much traffic there. What about Stemley Road? I don’t think many people go out of Poor House Marina now since they’ve closed the bridge for repairs since August.
  24. Does anybody know of any good places to fish around Tuscaloosa, Al?
