Green Pumpkin. Black. i can’t catch a drop of water with these two colors.

Agree or Not Agree?
All of my biggest fish were luck, especially the bass. I was never a good bass fisherman, but I have been a very lucky bass fisherman.

How to set the drag on a spinning reel?
True.

Half a spool enough line on a baitcaster?
It’ll throw off my entire reaction time on the hookset.

How to set the drag on a spinning reel?
+1 I’m not a fan of specific pounds, if you set specific pounds on a machine, depending on the rod, you could wind up with way more drag than the machine setting because of the rod bending. And then lose fish. Best to develop a sense of what’s right. Double digit drags are overrated, 9 pounds of drag is more than enough for anything I’m ever fishing for.

Old DC Reels- Shimano Metanium MG DC vs Shimano Scorpion DC7
Torn on my next reel. Metanium non DC or 19 Scorpion? I can’t decide.

I’m getting Post Traumatic Splice Disorder just by reading this thread.

How to get young people fishing?
Because every time I see a woman fishing, they get mad, they aske me for help. They get mad, the kids get upset and then they quit. I have seen this much more often than I have seen women fishing for the sake of fishing. I can’t help that that’s been my experience.

How to get young people fishing?
I’ll never live down the comment about fishing being mainly a men’s thing. I rarely see women fishing.

Baitcaster under 130$?
I always upgrade abus to all carbontex.

Padding your spools
A little, but it almost completely eliminates any birds nesting and makes the drag smoother than anything.

Show off your trays!
I don’t use these, but after losing about 50 orange beads that spilled out of a bag last year, maybe something like this would help.

Padding your spools
I hate to threadjack, but why don’t more reels have a synchronized levelwind???

Shimano Curado ISSUE - Help!
No way to know. Maybe the sleeve that sits over the gearshaft isn’t in its grooves? Maybe a washer is misaligned? Maybe a Belleville is upside down or installed out of order? Maybe a spring? No way to know without cracking it open and looking at schematics. I would guess something is misaligned. Some reels only stay properly oriented and aligned if you lockdown the drag as soon as the handle is on and then check all screws for tightness. Then after it’s all back together, you can back the drag off.

Padding your spools
On a low profile baitcaster, I fill it to the top with only one line, no backer no tape. I think extra knots and other things in the spool throw the balance off and cause wobble that reduces casting distance and causes more overruns. I can feel the overruns always happen over the bump, so I do everything I can to reduce the bumps. Once I lose 1/8 to 1/5 or so of a spool to snags, I throw out the line and respool. If you’re talking conventional reels with way more line capacity than you’ll ever possibly use, there’s no reason to fill it and it’ll probably cast better under filled. If you are casting less than 100’ it probably doesn’t make any difference what you do with your line unless you’re going for total BFS shallow spool, then you’ll have no choice but to fill the spool.

Braid, fluro & rocks
I’ve had this happen more than once with 50lb seguar Kureha #14 fluoro (JDM) and landed the fish, even fish up to 20lbs. I’ve also had smaller fish (2-4 lbs) snag me in the rocks and still land almost all of them without line breakage after 10 minutes trying to get them out. So I am a firm believer in fluorocarbon.

Thank You New York!
All I’m saying is, Amazon must know that a NY or NJ deal, based on free Sanctuary City money, would anger the majority of its customers. That’s what killed the deal, IMO.

Braided line
That’s exactly what I was about to say.

Van Staal Spinning Reel?
Waste of money. Unless your dipping the reel in saltwater, there’s no point. They are nice reels, though.

What are some good Rods in the $180-$220 Range
Me too, most of the time. The only added benefit once you go over $200 is the rods get lighter and usually stiffer. I prefer softer rods because of how I fish. Guys who like “solid hooksets” and “lots of backbone” usually prefer more expensive rods, because they’re light and rigid. For me, I lose hooksets with that, because I swing the rod hard and fast. Once you’re up at this price, only a few rods are not good, most will be very good or excellent. Try them out in person, unless you’re ok blowing $200 on something you might not like. I fish a lot, if I get a rod that doesn’t match what I intended it for, it will work for something else. If that’s not the case for you, go to a big store and bend and bounce all the rods til you find what you like. I got a Kistler magnesium custom recently for over $200, and all I’ll say is it was definitely worth it, even though I haven’t used it yet. I rarely feel that way about anything over $175.

Any Weight Lifters Here?
I’m just going to add this about stabilization problems, without a damaging injury, it usually means one thing. Lifting too heavy. If it’s not that, then it’s overly isolating movements and machines. Free dumbbells get you stabilization, but it takes way longer to get stabilization than it does to get strength. I could bench 100lb dumbbells for over 5 reps for about 2 years before I could roll back and keep them steady in the up position. That’s normal the heavier you go. The muscle strength comes first. The small stabilizers take much longer to grow. There is no way to work the serratus. Compound lifts will all hit it. I am waaay fat by any type of bodybuilding standards, but my serratus are visible because I do almost only big compound movements (bench, dB bench, OHP, pull overs, flys, lateral flys/raises, dB rows, pull ups, pull downs, dips, etc).

Working to Stay Lean ~
Diet only. Got a 3-4cm “high grade attenuation” injury to my left bicep about 2” above the inside of my elbow (2” up from the elbow crease) deadlifting in the gym recently. The muscle got stretched out 3-4cm longer than it is and is now 3-4cm longer than it was. Felt like the softer part of the muscle was pulling off of the tendon. And that’s what it was. Just got my MRI. Going back to the ortho soon. The good news is if I need surgery, I won’t need screws, because I didn’t tear my biceps tendon off the bone. And I can still fish, but this is keeping me out of the gym now. Depending on what the doctor says, it could mean I’ll be doing cardio only for a while........
