The Tatula CT/Fuego CT and Misconceptions
All I’m going to say is handle knob bearings are overrated. I notice no difference between knobs on bearings, knobs on bushings or knobs with holes through them with no bearings or bushings. The T-wing is nice and does make a difference. But if it was up to me, they’d make one with a synchronized level wind because that works best with thin braid. The one thing the schematics do not show is how precisely engineered and manufactured these reels are. Pretty amazing, really.

What Line do you use
6 to 25lb braid. Various brands. Leaders anywhere from 8 to 50lbs, but usually from 8 to 20lbs. Anything from seaguar fluoro, yozuri pink (which I think is way underrated and is now better than before it went off the market for a while), triple fish fluoro, ande mono leader, Berkeley vanish line, but my favorite all around is 17lb stren purple.

what unpopular lure do you use?
Probably all of them. For example, everyone says green pumpkin, green pumpkin or watermelon. Whelp, when there are rocks in clear water covered in green hairy slime algae and you throw those popular colors, you can see the fish looking for the senko when they smell it or hear it, but they can’t find it. They’re eyes must be all greened out. From what I’ve read, their eyes don’t adjust for light and color linstantly like ours, it could take up to an hour to adjust. If you throw something else that isn’t popular like pink, they’ll see it. I wouldn’t believe it unless I’ve seen them looking around like blind morons unable to actually find the bait. With a very different color, you’ll see them attack it by sight sometimes when it catches their eyes, but if it’s almost the same color as everything else they see, it’s like it’s invisible and they won’t attack it. I seen a lot of weird fish behaviors an this one is one of the worst. It’s like they’re completely blind.

Special Lures That Never See Water

Losing fish when they jump
I don’t get jumping fish. IMO, 99% of the fish breaking the surface comes from stiff rods and tight drags. Maybe fast gears, too. If you fish a soft, slow bendy rod like I do, with a drag tight enough for a good hook set they don’t break the surface. The trade off is a big fish with fight in it can literally shake the whole rod back and forth about two feet each way when you try to land it and create enough slack to get away. So I can’t say one is better. I just don’t hook up or cast as good with stiffer rods.

Going Nocturnal
I’ll climb rocks, walk through bees and poison ivy no problem, all day. But once I have crunchy beetles and soft moths flying down the back of my shirt, I’m going home. They are immune to OFF.
-
Extra fast vs fast
I prefer my rods slow as molasses for almost all applications.

Show off your Stuff
The black plastic like material looks to be decent quality and is holding fine. I think the rubber retainer disintegrated from casting so hard with the Boca bearings. I continued fishing with it for a few hours without the inductor. It was an experience, but I wasn’t going home. If the seller sends me a c-clip and spring, I’ll be able to salvage it. I can probably get a better quality washer in Home Depot for .10c The bent washer is strange, but these are similar to the thin washers that some reels have just over or under the ball bearings. They aren’t as thick as the shadow in the pic makes it look.

I contacted the seller, he offered to exchange it or send me a c-clip for it. I am waiting for his reply from China. If he has a spring, too I’ll have it working again in 54 days when the c-clip and spring arrive from China ?

Pressured fish
Makes you wonder if catch and release is a good idea. Kill them as soon as they’re keepers and they’ll never get smarter. I’m just kidding. I don’t like to kill fish. But sometimes I wonder.

Pressured fish
I don’t think fishing pressure is the detetmining factor. It’s really the ecosystem that determines fishability. There are a lot of heavily fished small ponds that consistently produce for reasons that can’t be explained by fishing pressure.

Show off your Stuff
Oh well, the $37 generic spool from China that I was using broke last night. I thought I just backlashed doing a few Happy Gilmore style casts with minimal braking because there were other people around. But nope. First cast today sounded like a damaged ball bearing, which never happened to me before and would’ve got me mad because I’m using bocas. So I popped the side plate off and pieces starting falling out of the spool. And that my friends is why Daiwa spools cost over $100................ I kept fishing and it felt like the old days today. No brakes or magnets, just one spool tension knob and my thumb. And of course no fish, except all the bites from all the fish the same size as my bait. yes, that washer is bent.

Am I asking for trouble?
I use 10 a lot for all different applications. Currently my go to rig is using 25. I pay little mind to the rod specs and line specs, though. For my purposes, the only rod spec that matters is when I get snagged and pull as hard as I can the drag is not so tight that I can break the rod or break the line. I adjust for everything else with the leader.

To kill or not to kill—bowfin
https://www.fws.gov/fisheries/ans/pdf_files/snakeheads.pdf just throwing this out there on snakeheads from US Fish & Wildlife. I think any snake head caught in the US must be killed in all states. Every state I looked up said you cannot release them. But bowfin are to be released like any native fish. I have never seen or caught one of either of them.

Longevity of dc reels
That’s like 50-90% of the internet, in my opinion.
-
Why couldn't I hook 'em?
I’ve seen that happen, too. More often with LMB, but once or twice with SMB. A few smaller bass usually come see the commotion. Then, every so rarely, a much bigger bass will appear, look ticked off, bump it’s way through the crowd and angrily inhale whatever is causing all the commotion.
-
Longevity of dc reels
I have no idea. And I’m not exactly happy with the fact that, at some point in the not so distant future, I’m going to have to get one to see if it’s really just a gimmick or not.

Never thought of + for leaders.
Sounds like without the leader, you lost the stretch in the line that added to the rod loading and slingshot effect. As far as I know, the only way to make up the difference is with a softer rod. Which is why I fish softer rods than most people. I never travel with with less than a 25 yard spool of leader. Even though I don’t always use it.

Following your lure retrieves
Me too. I don’t envision it. I verify what everything I fish with looks like in the water in clear water. And I know what most things I contact on the bottom are when I can’t see them. I put knowing exactly what your offering looks like as one of the most important things there is to know. I’d go as far as to say nearly everything else is based on that. From rod, to line to reel selection and any hardware you might add (I avoid hardware as much as possible). I usually fish several weigh classes lighter than what is recommend to make sure I know what’s going on underwater. When I’m not catching any fish, I can still spend the whole day on getting all of the movements right for when there are fish biting. That and see what anyone else is doing and never thinking I got it right. Because every time I’m sure I got everything right, I’ll see someone else doing something else that indicates I got it wrong.

New Seaguar Fluorocarbon
I am a die hard fluoro user and I love seaguar. But once any fishing line or leader material is advertised as thin I have to shake my head. In my opinion thinner is not always better and in most cases thinner is overrated. I put toughness and invisible at the top of my list.

Carolina vs Texas Rig
I usually use a lighter weight on the Carolina than the Texas......
