  1. Is a slower gear ratio better for single hook moving baits? I always looked at it like if spinnerbait and chatterbaits were imitating scared baitfish a higher gear ratio is better, but I'm seeing a lot of people using 6:1.
  2. What reel do you use? Gear ratio and brand if you don't mind sharing.
  3. What reel are you using for your 734c?
  4. Welp, it looks like I'll need to get rid of her. I've got a rod that serves those purposes.
  5. I'm really trying to like this rod, but I can't seem to find a lure that this rod excels at fishing. It's like the chef that can cook all kinds of dishes, but nothing stands out. I'm looking at taking it back, but before I do, I was wondering if you could tell me which lures seem to work for you the best on a 734c. I have a Bass X Medium Heavy, currently throw jigs and Texas Rigs on it.
  6. I'm just not as confident in Texas Rigs anymore. I'm not sure of the cadence. I used to pop-pop pause pop-pop-pop pause. I'd switch it up too, I just can't get it right. I used to say the same about jigs and yesterday I caught a nice 3 lb bass on a swim jig. I really hate to admit it, because I think the hype is silly, but I have bought Googan Baits and they aren't bad. The swim jig I used was a Googan.
  7. Can you elaborate on your color choices and your techniques/presentations? Clear day, cloudy day, rain, cold, and hot. Just trying to get better. Thank you
  8. Not sure if it was because of the barometric pressure, but today was the day to fish.
  9. I am a pond hopper. I just get in my car and go. I'll find a body of water if it looks good I'll fish it (if it's public. I don't trespass). Today, for instance, I caught a fish on a swim jig in bluegill pattern with a grub trailer. The bite stopped and I finessed with drop shot in morning dawn color and nailed my second cast. That's two separate techniques on two separate colors. How do prepare for that? I just fished with what I had. I guess my question is do you go into day knowing exactly how you are going to fish or do you have other approaches. I'll look at the pond the day before or read prior reports on Fishbrain. I can get a good idea, but I'm usually about 50/50 on my guess of lures. Go to the pond the next day, if it's early morning target lilypads with topwater frogs. I like to test the water with search baits like a crankbait just so can see how deep I'm fishing if I have milfoil or hydrilla on my lure I know I'm fishing at least 6 feet if I have scumb then I'm probably fishing 3 feet. I'll fish a drop shot or wacky worm to see if they are biting (finesse fishing is a determinate whether the fishing is worth the effort). It's a crap shoot from there. Like today I had a bluegill swim jig that I caught a nice fish on. My jerkbait/popper rod I had a bluegill pattern popper, the water was really calm, almost glass thought that it was a perfect opportunity to catch another fish. After struggling, I decided to try the drop shot, I caught a fish on something totally different than a bluegill pattern (pink and purple worm). They wouldn't hit my Rapala jerkbait, but they nailed my Zoom Super Fluke in watermelon red flake. I can stay up all night rigging my rods, then have a day like today (no rhyme or reason...colors were all off, nothing consistent or even matched.) How do you prepare? What colors work for you based on water clarity. What's all in the rotation as far as lures are concerned. How do you decide what to throw.
  10. Tackle Warehouse's entire inventory of Shimano is back ordered.
  11. Thinking out loud. Pointing out the obvious. I hate shopping online. Especially having to wait 3 weeks to get it. There should be a better way to order and get it shipped. I just miss the convenience of a department store. We give way too much power to the internet. But I digress, I wonder how much the fishing industry has collectively made. Again thinking out loud.
  12. Dobyns 734c for all skirted single hooks.
  13. I was talking to a few guys at work, evidently the equipment companies are overwhelmed by the demand, some companies are in a predicament where the can't hire new employees (COVID 19) to keep up with the demand, so they loose the business. It's all old news, it has to be ,on all accounts, the best fiscal year in the history of fishing. How is the fishing industry not trying to maximize they market strategy and capitalize on today's trend? It just seems there's more these companies can do. We've been out of SLX, Curados, Metanium, and Chronarchs going on 6 weeks. It's amazing to me watching the trends in the store. Most everyone is buying Shimano reels and we can't keep Hollow body frogs on the shelves at Academy. I was so excited about perhaps getting a Curado K, but they are back ordered, some say until December. I'm reel bummed out.
  14. Haven't seen much reviews for the Shimano Caius B. Anyone have experience with this reel? What can you tell me? Or what budget reel under $100 and I'm not talking about $99.99. Please no Fuego CT on Amazon for $70. A couple years ago I owned a Caenan, they look pretty comparable. I was told the Caius replaced the Caenan. I used my Caenan on a Duckett Ghost in Medium Fast. On the Shimano website it says the Caius was made for throwing light lures, which leads me to believe the Caius would be an obvious choice reel for weightless senkos, flukes, and trick worms. I really liked the Caenan, but it's extremely hard to find. I have 2 rods in mind: Falcon Lowrider Weightless Worm Dobyns Fury 703c Thank you
  15. Yes, they are heavier, more like a light heavy if they ever had a such thing, on the heavy side of medium heavy spectrum, in other words. It's perfect for 1/2oz Swimjigs, Ol Monsters t-rigged on a 4/0 EWG with 1/2 ounce sliding bullet weight (sometimes I like to peg if there's grass), fishing grass with a football jig dragging bottoms. I fish out of a Jon boat, a 7'10" flipper is a bit cumbersome, this rod gets the job done.
  16. Caught 4 good pond stocking fish for a rehabilitation facility for men, who struggle with addiction. They have an acre pond that they use to get away for awhile. My aerator broke on my way out there. I lost 3 of 4 fish. I'm sick about it. The water here in Texas gets extremely hot. So transfer of fish is a delicate process.
  17. They were biting the weightless bubble gum trick worms! Hydrilla and milfoil very shallow. Very warm water. Made for a hard day of fishing.
  18. If you want to save a few bucks the Tatula 100 or 150 are both nice reels. I've got a 100 on my Fury 734c. I use the 734 as my jig and spinnerbait rod.
  19. Would you use a worm/jig rod MHF and 7:1 reel?
  20. I wanted to try spincasting, so I got a Lew's TXS combo made for Academy Sports and Outdoors. So far it's worked, I'm looking for every excuse to by a Dobyns or St Croix spinning rod and I can't find one. I finally tried a dropshot with this rod and I'm hooked.
  21. I love my shakey heads. Black, sprayed grass, pink, or white!!!
  22. I actually live in Conroe. Grew up in Walden. Was a golfer. I got hurt playing football, couldn't play sports anymore, so I focused on my two loves hunting and fishing. Used to fish the bulkheads all the time.
