  1. North Louisiana.... Go to Toledo Tackle on Oliver Rd in Monroe. Great folks and a ton of tackle that is relevant to the fishing in your area. They don't jack their prices up either.
  2. Since marijuana became popular again.....
  3. I was told by others that it IS a Triumph rod but with foam instead of cork. Foam isn't a deal breaker for me in this instant.
  4. That was my thinking as well. I really like St. Croix and have never had a bad rod from them.
  5. I got an email from St. Croix stating this was a Customer Appreciation Day first. They were offering a St. Croix Rod Combo for 50% off. Spinning or casting. The rod was paired with a Daiwa reel. They didn't offer any info on the reel so I'm thinking it won't be much to it. However, for $69 I ordered a spinning rod combo. I chose a 7' medium action. Worse case scenario one of my kids will fish with it. We'll see what happens..... Has anyone else received this offer? Was it a good deal?
  6. Any chance you can take it for a test run? As for the faster motor.....you're talking a lot more money. And that will negate the "cheap boat option" you stated in your first post. Another thought to consider is this type of plank isn't known for tensile strength. Not only is it heavy, it also flexes very easily and could possible allow your boat to flex and bend under tighter turning radius situations under moderate throttle. The only advantage to this material is it usually last many years. But, it is not designed for structural rigidity.

  8. to each his own. Although, I'd wager the line was 2 different pound tests therefore changing the action of the bait used more than the color of the line.... but, it's no big deal either way. I've fished with Cajun line for years and it's always been great line in the clear water reservoirs I've fished. Sorry, OP..... didn't mean to hijack your thread about hook color.
  9. Popper at daylight/dusk. This clear water allows fish to see much farther and a popper can pull them up from greater distances. From daybreak to sunup will be prime topwater action.
  10. Cajun Line is legit! Some of the best mono for the money you can buy. And I've seen it make a difference in very clear water. It just seems to be a more natural color in the water than green or any other line color.
  11. There's a great chance your rod is too stiff thus allowing slack in your line while you're fighting the fish. These baits are perpetually an easy hook set due to their hook size and the fact that it's exposed. Bass normally suck it right in. However, if your rod is too stiff it allows the potential for slack while fighting the fish thus letting your bass throw the lure.
  12. NOW we know the REAL reason why you upgraded that outboard........?
  13. To answer your question, yes, that is consistent. And it won't affect the action of the fish catching ability of the bait. These baits have such a great action that the hooks swing out from side to side and cause the scars. It does, however, ruin an otherwise beautiful, expensive bait. But, know this.... It's more the ACTION and less the PAINT that catches fish with these baits. The Visions castability, action, and profile are second to none and will catch fish when other jerk baits fail. So, update your hooks as A-Jay suggested, making sure you don't upsize too much to kill the action and suspension, and keep fishing it. Mine are so beat up they're dog ugly. I've replaced hooks over and over and keep on catching.
  14. Sounds like you have line twist that condenses in the last 3 ft of line and causes your line to form coils that tangle with your guides. The reason you're not kinking further down the spool when you've made a cast is the line twist has many feet in which to disperse. Once you've reeled in most of your line these twists condense down and are concentrated on the last few feet of line.
  15. This is a point of confusion. Navigational lights and normal cockpit position on bass boats indicate you should go LEFT when meeting a boat head on. Shouldn't you "go" to the GREEN light? The green light on an approaching boat is on your LEFT. Also, the steering wheel is on the right, indicating that boat traffic lanes should be the same as England, since cars there are right hand drive and they are opposite of the US..... However, the USCG navigational handbook states port to port passing (going right when meeting head on) is the "preferred" method. Still, the green/red light does lead to confusion. Red means STOP or NO. Green means GO or YES....
  16. I know you stated you wanted TWO blades, but the Zorro Baits Short Arm Aggravator is one of the best waking spinnerbaits on the planet. It flat out catches fish. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-ZORROBAITS.html?from=basres
  17. Now that you mention it, my last bass for the year was caught last week. I had had a good day fishing with my oldest son. We had wrapped up the day and I was sliding the rod covers on and sliding my combos in the rod box. My last rod had a jig on it. On a whim I stood up in the middle of my boat and pitched it to the bank. Immediately my line took off to the deep. I set the hook hard. Felt like I had hooked a tank! A short fight later and there she was. 7 pounds even! Just 3 ounces shy of my PB. So, the last fish of 2018 was a remarkable one indeed for me.
  18. Well, they tout the vibration of the Knuckle Ball and it DOES vibrate. But, is it the frequency that attracts fish? I can't determine that.
  19. There are two options. One has a rattle in the ball and the other has a reflective holographic prism square. I bought one of each on a whim and have never caught a fish on either. In all fairness, I haven't given them much water time either.
  20. Catt, you're giving up ALL my La fishing trip secrets!! Especially the spinnerbait and jerk bait!!
  21. THIS is the biggest reason a Palomar Knot fails. Because the one of the base lines is the MAIN line and if it kinks against the other line it will break under the pressure of a hook set. Also, keeping the over-hand knot at the very top with the loop until time to cinch it down keeps everything in place as well. Practice doing that a few times and it'll become second nature. FWIW, Brandon Palaniuk, 2107 AOY, did a video stating he uses the Palomar Knot exclusively regardless of line type..
  22. Product name? Website link?? Come on, don't leave us hanging.....
  23. I'm about 45 minutes north of Meridian on hwy 45. It just hit here. Flooding rain, thunder and lightning. But, the worst of the severe stuff seems to have played out for now.
  24. It's a pretty significant event for MY culture!! I despise winter and I live in the South! These short days are the pits. Even in Ms the sun has set by 4:45PM. That's just depressing...
