Abu Garcia Vendetta Rod warranty
That was my thinking too, thank you. It was probably less than 2 pounds. I have it all on video too.

Finding a comfortable kayak
Craigs List. I spent $500 and got a WS Ride 115 with an ultra-nice MaxAir Pro seat. It is very comfortable. Even so, after half-a-dozen outings I decided it still wasn't right for me and I will be getting a small boat instead. I too have a bad back (comes and goes) and tendinitis as well. Lifting and moving the boat even short distances and paddling are not helpful with either of these issues. It interfered with my fishing. Maybe you should try a more expensive yak on demo days. If that isn't comfortable than nothing cheaper will be either.

Abu Garcia Vendetta Rod warranty
Like I said I may have held the rod too vertical. Even then it wasn't much of a lift. Second fish I caught on that rod (used). Then again I pull larger fish out of that exact same spot with a medium with no problems. I'm still pretty new so definitely could have been all me but I don't think it should have snapped in that situation.

Need advice on how to fish a large pond
I agree with the lightweight T-Rig worm or fluke thing. My local ponds are getting thicker with the vegetation. I put an 1/8 oz bullet weight with a Zoom Super Fluke (they float I think with no weight). It ends up swimming just a few inches beneath the water, in fact the strike looked like a topwater smash - very cool. Didn't think I'd catch anything in this area due to weeds but this worked. Tried a frog afterward and - caught a bullfrog.

My Vengeance MH rod snapped a few days ago. I got it used though. Had a 2 pound bass on it and lifted it out - snap. I may have been too vertical but geez, pretty small fish.

Feeling terrible and discouraged about accidentally killing a bass
I'm bummed when I inadvertently kill fish. I can't tell you how to feel about it, but when your hobby is yanking fish out of the water with a sharp hook embedded in their face, this stuff is going to happen sometimes. If I cared that much for the fish I wouldn't fish at all. You will kill less fish as time goes by. You probably should have just removed the hook, though I'm not 100% sure where it was. If I can remove a hook I always do it. In fact I have yet to let one go with a hook in it. If you kill a fish see if an angler nearby wants it to eat. I personally do not hold bass in such high regard compared to other fish. If they tasted good and the fishery could handle it, I'd probably eat them sometimes. There is no shortage of bass in the world. It is good to be a compassionate fisherman, I think. But I don't let it get to me to that extent. If that bass could eat me it would do so.

First Yak - WS Ride 115 - Trolling Motor Questions, etc.
It's been decided I fished in a 14 foot aluminum v-hull converted to a "bass boat" yesterday. That is what I wanted to do from the start and I should have done it. I loved it. Then again if I hadn't tried the yak I would have always wondered. I'd like to go to 16 foot if possible, but 14 was stable and very very nice. Good seats too. It's so nice to be able to move around, have space for stuff that you can actually retrieve, stand up easily. Fish with a buddy. Was actually easier than launching the yak. Losing the gigantic paddle is nice. Even without my tendinitis this is the right choice for me. I like everything about it better. I'll take the kayak out a few more times but it is definitely getting sold or traded this year. I just can't see adding outriggers and motors to the kayak. It seemed like a good idea after so many YouTube videos, but now it seems ridiculous compared to just getting a boat. If anyone near me wants to buy my yak hit me up.

Productive Fishing/Limited Funds
I mentioned Walmart earlier. I went to another one and they have a lot of stuff. Bullet weights for $1 instead of $4.50 like everywhere else. They even had 1/8 oz which I'd never seen. Mushroom/Ned jig heads for like $2 for 5 instead of $5 for 4. Weedless. Bought a decent multi-tool for $5. If it sinks no big loss. As I mentioned before, Ozark Trail $2 crank baits are comparable to BPS branded stuff in quality. Bought a pack of 3 3/8 oz spinners with some stupid looking trailers for $5. The spinners are just as good as my $6 one. They also have inline spinners, lipless cranks, frogs and poppers all for $1 or $2. Even their Plano boxes are a third of BPS. They only have a few different ones, but the 3600 is $2.80 and the same one at BPS is over $7. I bought one and filled it with Walmart baits and pinched the barbs so I'd have a barbless-only kit. They have plastics. Saw Yamamoto Senkos for $6. You can also try eBay.

Im making a map of a specific lake that is very low on water. What do I look for?
My local lake has a deep channel that runs along the otherwise shallow length. It snakes around a lot too. No watercraft allowed or else I'd have that thing mapped good. Well if I had a fish finder maybe I agree with the poster above who said "everything you can see"

Casting Shoulder
I switched to left-handed fishing and casting. I have tendinitis and a few other things in my right arm. I cast my baitcaster lefty, never actually tried it right handed. My spinning rod is also set up lefty but I still cast it right-handed, though I can do it either way. It's just awkward with the bail, but only a little. Casting the opposite arm is easier if you're just using wrists and elbows and snapping it rather than a big body motion type of cast. My main problem with pain though was holding the rod in my right hand, not casting. I also take breaks, wear compression bands near my elbow, ice it in the morning before I go out, and I have a right-handed spinner if I need to switch for some reason. I don't take anything for pain. Ibuprofen for swelling, yes. I like to feel the pain so I know when I'm doing damage. Pain or discomfort = stop. Take breaks and bring something to do during them. Set a phone alarm to remind you to stop every 20 minutes or whatever otherwise you may not do it.

How do Minn Kota built in transducers work on the trolling motors if it's turning?
Okay, so is it that a front mounted transducer would be the best solution, but because the front of the boat isn't really in the water you can only use one up front when the motor is submerged, hence the built in trans? If you could have a transducer in the front 24/7 you wouldn't use one in the back at all, correct? If so I'm finally getting it. Thanks for your patience!

How do Minn Kota built in transducers work on the trolling motors if it's turning?
Thank you for the response. I was thinking more about when the main engine is being used - say you're going 10 mph or much faster and the TM is up but you still want to mark structure, fish or whatever. Maybe people don't do that. Like I said I have no experience with this but I do want to get a boat this winter so I'm just trying to figure this out I'm just wondering what the advantage is to having the transducer mounted on the motor rather than a place without the issues of motor turning, lifting etc. Does it allow the motor or system to do things it otherwise couldn't if the transducer wasn't on the motor? Perhaps I should just look at a sales brochure haha.

How do Minn Kota built in transducers work on the trolling motors if it's turning?
I just don't see the advantage of having transducers on a motor that not only turns but gets pulled out of the water as well. I asked Glenn about that in another thread and he said there is a second transducer mounted on the boat for that occasion. Well what's the point then? I don't own a boat yet so I'm probably missing something - what am I missing? Seems like a gimmick to me. It also seems that they could use something to keep it straight as the motor turns, kinda like a camera's image stabilization or a gyro. What is the advantage of having a transducer in the motor when you still need one mounted elsewhere on the boat? What's the advantage even if you don't need a second one?

Do you ever fish barbless? Why or why not?
I do barbless when I need to. I have a plano box of cheap cranks and tackle just for this location. If I have a barbless on at another fishery I just keep it on. My friend has lost a lot of fish because of barbless I think. After watching a guy just yesterday use a pair of pliers to remove a very deep hook from his finger I may rethink this. I caught both of my biggest fish to date barbless - 4.75 and 5.25 lbs.

Treble hook removal ?
Saw a bad one today and the removal was "unexpected". Fishing with a coworker and he had a treble very much like the cringe-worthy photo above, except that the point was buried in his finger and not exposed or even close. The hook was buried well beyond the barb and down to where the hook curves. dang that hurt just looking at it. I'm cringing now. We had just set out. We'd fished once before from shore but today we were on a boat. Oh crap this looks bad! Right next to the nail too. So nasty! I've never yanked a hook and it looked way too deep and sketchy to try. I've seen several videos on how to do it and I told him I was willing but I dunno man, this looked like a bad angle and it was deep. I cut the line from the lure. Shoulda left the GoPro on. He then grabbed some pliers and grabbed that hook and started trying to work it out or something. I'm like dude oh crap we're in trouble. We just launched we can't go to the E.R! He pulled that thing out. Took a minute but he got it. I didn't watch, I wasn't sure what he was doing. I was astounded. He laughed having the hook finally out. "Weren't so bad!" He says, "I pushed opposite the side of the barb like you said as I did it" Dude! I salute this 62 year old crazy sombitch! * I'm not condoning doing this yourself.

First time kayak fishing
I'm actually going to trade my kayak for a small boat. I have used my kayak about 6 times and I don't think it's quite what I want. WS Ride 115. Fighting the yak instead of fishing is a big one. I can't afford pedals and the paddle is a pain to constantly grab. I was going to do a trolling motor but seems like I may as well get a boat at that point. At least I can use it hands-free then. Mainly though I want more space to move. I don't change baits as often as I should and I get lazy about paddling to new spots and other things. I want to get out sometimes just to "get out". Tendinitis doesn't help either. I fish less due to the paddling. Basically I want to fish, not kayak, and I want to be comfortable. Now that I've tried it I know for sure that I want the boat. The kayak is cool but I don't see any advantage over a small boat - for me. Hell a boat is easier for me to launch than a yak with all the gear. I'm 51 - time for a d**n boat man. I'll probably sell the yak to pay for it.

Action Cameras for fishing
Many cheap cameras only do 1080p which is fine for a lot of people. A lot of the 4k ones have inferior sensors or do not do true 4k - that is a big key to this. The Yi I have has a very good Sony sensor and has one of the best pictures, even compared to GoPro. Some say it's better. Some cameras allow you to record and rerecord a single file. I thought the Yi did but it does not. Would be a nice feature in a dash cam so you don't fill up an SD card. However, at 1080p I can record for several hours on a 64GB SD card, and it also supports 128GB (unofficially). Plus it would be a bummer to record a PB then accidentally record over it. You can easily delete files from the camera if you need to. It uses all the GoPro mounts. All the leftover junk from my GoPro fits on it. Problems with the Yi: Wind noise. I use a rubberband to hold a piece of foam over the mic holes. Works very well. Otherwise wind can be heard with just a small breeze. GoPro has noise too but not as bad. Image stabilization not nearly as good as GoPro. Good for some uses, not good for others. Works okay for fishing. If you mount it to your head you will be surprised at how often you look around while you fish. Sometimes I have to remind myself to keep somewhat still so people don't get sick watching me. Sometimes I have to remove the battery to reset the camera, as it will suddenly stop working - kind of. It is rare but it does happen. GoPro froze on me a few times too. Sharpness settings suck, leave them at the lowest setting and fix it later in post editing. Lower mic volume to Low if you use a chest or head mount. I had the camera replaced after it suddenly hailed a little one day (California hail is pretty weak). One of the mics stopped working and they replaced it. I did not tell them about the hail though You need to download a few text files in order to get the bitrate as high or higher than a GoPro. Look up "Yi Action Cam bitrate hack". The difference in quality before and after is quite noticeable. Like I said my first choice would be the GoPro 6 used for $220, only due to the image stabilization though. Other that the Yi 4k between $69 and $199 gets the nod. Here is a video I shot with this camera. You can see how it behaves in different lighting conditions - sun glare etc.

Action Cameras for fishing
Maybe it'll pressure you to catch more? Gotta keep your YouTube fans happy lol. You can also use it for other things. According to the GoPro ads, everyone skydives and surfs! Who knew? I used a GoPro for snorkeling in Hawaii, you can use it as a dash cam. Attach it to your dog. My GoPro fell in the lake one day so I ended up buying the Yi for 1/4 the price. I've had both and I'm okay with either though I'd like the image stabilization on the GoPro 6. Other than that I'm fine with the cheapie. As for not wanting the newer GoPro 7 there is a reason I decided to avoid it but I can't remember what it was. A lot of people seem to like the 6 better - there's a feature they left out of the 7 but ??? Maybe it's the color profile. I like the Yi okay but do your research. There are cheaper "4k" cams but many are not true 4k or have inferior sensors. Oh and I never shoot in 4k anyways, usually 2.7k @ 60 fps.

What have you learned this month?
I learned I'm not as good a fisherman as I thought I was last month.
