  1. My two main targets are Walleye/Sauger and Lm/Sm bass. I will settle down and do some crappie fishing if the gettin is good and have some fun frying em up. Walleye and Bass both require mastering the art of feel. You have to be able to feel what a tiny piece of lead on the end of a line is doing and where it is in relation to the fish. Walleye's love to use stunner hits on their prey they hit it and hope that it falls dead so they can pick it up. It happens to fast you just have to know when it happens to try to coax him into coming back to pick it up. Bass you sometimes have to go into his home and feel around with the same piece of lead and try to get him to either decide hes hungry and tick him off enough he wants it gone. Not to mention nothing beats a buzzbait coming across the water on a summer evening when the suns about to go down and that big bass thats been hanging out next to her laydown waiting finally decides its had enough of the noisey PITA in her area. Tacklemaking is another thing that always keeps me going after these fish. I love making jigs and spinnerbaits and crawler harnesses and soft plastics then going out and catching a bass on a lead head I made with a grub I poured on it. Its a cool feeling when you know you fooled em totally on your stuff.
  2. I was there yesterday and they just stocked the new Trions over in the reels and had the two sizes i need. I took a breath and walked away then but I'm sure ill be back there shortly to buy every one they got. For a cheap spinning reel those things have been awesome for me.
  3. I think he was just getting at the folks that go fishing and have a "milk run" of spots somewhere. They just go hit those spots if they catch nothing they put the boat on the trailer and say the fishing sucks and go home. Alot of people dont take the time to break down a day. I have spots just like everybody else here but if the fish arent on that spot i know from the other knowledge ive read on here from Catt and WRG and a few others about fish movement that the fish are going to follow the contours where they are going. So the fish that were on that spot could move either way from it and setup close by or a mile down or further. I fish river systems mostly so I know if I caught fish on a spot roaming that if the water is high the next week those fish are going to be up with their noses stuck into the bank or if its lower they will be roaming that area or moved further out into the river and setup on new cover. I think what the biggest mistake is and i've read a few others say it but alot of fisherman lack the ability to stand back and look at the big picture and figure out whats happening. And the worst part about that is the big picture is never complicated. The bass brain lives off instinct we spend all this time and money learning that instinct. And we as fisherman tend to complicate that way to much. I guess the biggest thing I'm getting at is there are alot of fisherman that should learn to ask "why?" more and not to the internet forum but while they are on the water and hitting their spot and its dead they need to stop and ask themselves "why" and if they start digging around they will find out quick and it might be that the fish just pushed out deeper cause of a temp change or the dnr came in and sprayed all the weeds and the fish vacated down a ways to clean water. I'm just a nobody around here though and spend more time reading than typing but thats my two cents on this subject. Best ill get is a penny lol
  4. Depends if your on the front or back. front where your choosing water a reaction bait would be more effective but definitely a jig has its place. If your in the back you cant go wrong with dragging a jig or shakey head behind the boat while the boater has the tm on high and zooming.
  5. just be careful patching into the boats power like that as it might cause interference if you dont go directly to the battery. saying that I just installed mine up front by patching into the boats power block up front just to see how bad the interference is going to be.
  6. I usually approach main lake points with the thought in mind that the active fish will be out towards the end and the neutral to negative mood fish will be on the sides probably in the cuts where the point curves on each side of the point. I know that doesnt hold up to everybodies theories but seems to be what works for me.
  7. I know what the wrapped boats are for but seems like they kill themselves with the wrapped boats. They can be spotted from a distance and followed easy. If you read Ike's book he talks about day 2 of the 03 classic he walked around wearing a bright yellow hoodie before launch so everybody saw him and knew the spectators would be looking for his bright yellow hoodie. Soon as he launched and was out of site he pulled it off and put his dark hoodie on so that people waiting for him couldnt spot him and he got back to his spot with no spectators. And I know he didnt have a wrapped boat then they were still new
  8. I know some guys have said its almost an art to get a good scan cause you have to be so slow and steady to get a good scan but the guys that are getting the hang of it are putting some beautiful pictures up. One guy captured a school of fish just off the bottom right in front of his boat. Was cool to look at.
  9. It will be nice to wory less about the trolling motor and more about fishing.
  10. I wonder how many DT-6's have been dug out of the clearance bin and put back at full price since the classic lol
  11. All my heavy stuff is for pulling fish out of trees and grass. Unless I'm in the river and they are nosed into the bank which happens from time to time in high water I have my spinning stuff out for smallies. I prefer it that way though.
  12. I feel like the catfish whisperer some days. Feel like I can throw into a mud puddle and pull a catfish out. One week at bull shoals walleye fishing thought I had a giant three different times ended up being nice cat fish. Went to my companies pond for the first time just casting a grub and hooked what i thought was a nice bass ended up being a dang catfish.
  13. I got a 4 month old chocolate lab puppy that I'm going to try in the boat and hope it works out. She's hopefully going to be a duck dog for me when shes old enough so im hoping she enjoys the boat this summer.
  14. Someone had a video of them changinTharpe's lower unit at the ramp and when he got done and took off again it was a freakin fleet behind him following him to his spot. I know roumbanis got his spot where he caught that big one on day 1 poached he left it and a guy moved in started fishing immediatly and fred came back to him fishing on it he just drove down around him and started fishing didnt say anything. Its all legal its just not right though. Guys dont wanna do the work to find their own spots and patterns so they would rather go on the bent pole pattern. But from what I've heard Guntersville is known as a bent pole pattern lake.
  15. nice try never works that way always something new to learn lol.
  16. The time share people are relentless. Guy last year at hte one in branson was just hammering me for that lodge they have down there. musta cost em to much to build now they gotta pay for it lol
  17. I remember when the chatterbait came out everybody went nuts for it. I remember the tacklemaking forums here had guys making their own left and right. I know a few still use them but dont hear about em as much as you did after that classic.
  18. I use them up here as search lures if I'm somewhere new and I'm just trying to find life lol. Ill swim a 3 or 4" grub and catch anything on them to contact where fish would be then switch it up to target the bass specifically. The regular round heads have never done me wrong with swimming them. I may try some darter heads this year just to see the difference.
  19. Hard to believe those have been out as long as they have lol. I bought some when they first came out and they are still in the box. Havent been used a whole lot.
  20. Here is a picture of how I set mine up. I heard KicknBass is working on a mount for the console so hopefully the 998 will move over the wheel eventually.
  21. I mounted an elite 7 on RAM mount on my RT188 up on the step opposite from the trolling motor. I mounted it kinda high because I like to pull bouncers for walleye and I have a terrova up front so I want to be able to sit at the console and see the depth at the front of the boat for following contours.
  22. I love my Elite 7 I wouldnt go without the GPS though. Depends what you plan on using the unit for exactly if you have another unit in the boat with gps or not.
  23. No we just have benzene tanks leaking lol
  24. Mine has been my handle since 2000 on yahoo messanger. Not creative just basscatcher cause well duh and 8 cause I was and am a huge dale jr fan. It is 89 on some other sites cause that was my racing number on line for awhile. And its 23 on other sites cause thats the number I actually raced with.
  25. thats a hey all watch this moment in the making. The ugly blue carpet just finishes it off. lol
