  1. Google directed me here back in the day before the current interface and it still pulls alot from here. But as the site keeps growing and members turn over you will get it from time to time. I just dont go to those threads if its something ive read a bunch already.
  2. I'm moving from a 14 foot deep v tiller boat to a ranger rt188 console boat so learning to control the bigger boat will be my biggest thing. ive been buying up smallmouth lures and equipment like its going out of style so im hoping everything will work together and make for a successful season
  3. Results: I gotta go invest in a camera i swear LOL
  4. This forum got me into tacklemaking about 5 years ago and I've been doing mostly jigs since. One project I had never got to turn out right was a fluid bed for painting jigs. This past weekend I was bored and figured I'd give it the old college try again. This forum has given me so many ideas over the years I figured I'd pay it forward and show you guys what I did. I apologize for the horrid pictures I did them with my DROID in horrible lighting but its what I had available. So here is the basics of what I did and I will post the pictures after. The parts you will need to build the one I am showing are: 2 PVC threaded unions (size is your choice, but I went with a 2 inch) 2 PVC Caps or Plugs that will fit your union A dual feed aquarium pump (available at walmart for 10 bucks) Some airline tubing (sold right next to the pump) Paper sandwich bags Glue 5/8 Drill Bit I took two PVC threaded unions and found a cap that would fit into one end of the union. I could not find an exact fit when at Menards so I bought one that was close and sealed all the way around the cap with Devcon 2 ton. Super glue will work as well but I had a bunch of devcon sitting around and figured why not it would look good atleast. Next I drilled a 5/8's hole into the side of the union that the cap was glued to. The aquarium pump comes with two check valves that are about 5/8's in diameter and this hole allows you to get your air into the bottom piece of the union. Coat one of the check valves in epoxy and place it into the hole that was just drilled. Allow it to setup for awhile. The epoxy will form an airtight seal and not allow your air to seep out around it. Next you will need to make a filter for the powder coat to sit on. This is where the sandwich bag comes in. Take the bottom half of the union and trace a circle on the sandwich bag using the union as your template. Carefully cut out the piece from the bag and test fit the piece over the bottom half of the union. The filter piece should over lap the O ring that is in the bottom half of the union. The o ring is essential for sealing the airflow and directing it to your powder coat. Next place the top piece of the union on top of the filter. Slide the large nut over top and thread it onto the lower piece of the union. Now you are almost done. Cut some adequate lengths of air line to run from your aquarium pump to your pvc union. Once connected go ahead and plug in the pump. If you got a good seal you will here the air pushing against the filter. Your next step is to drop your powder coat in and begin painting. Only thing I havent added yet is a control valve to control the airflow. That will be my next thing but for now this will do. I made this a two cup system so I can have two colors going at once. I will follow the pictures with further explanation. I hope this helps anybody who has been looking to buy or build one. Here is a view of the setup that I have built for myself. This is a two cup system so I can run two colors at once. Again I apologize for the picture quality. This is a picture of the aquarium pump sold at Walmart. Here is the cap glued onto the bottom end of the union. This has been epoxied with devcon 2 ton to get an air tight seal. Here is a close up of the air check valve glued into the bottom piece of the union. A 5/8's hole is required to fit the check valve into the bottom piece. Coat the check valve in epoxy before inserting it into the union. Be careful that no epoxy runs down and blocks the air flow of the valve. This is a view of the bottom piece without filter and with air fitting glued and ready to push air. Notice the O ring. The o ring is vital to pushing air up through the powder coat. It creates an air tight seal to the filter and allows the air to reach the powder paint. The filter is cut from a paper sandwich bag and placed over the o ring and threads of the PVC Union. This is what the powder coat will sit on while in use. Now place the top piece of the union on top of the filter. Your almost done now tighten the nut down on to seal the filter. All that is left is to run an airline from the pump to your check valve and your ready to paint! As you can see from the cup with the black powder in it I do have a little to much air pressure but a small valve will fix that and will be added later. This setup does however work great like it is. I apologize for this tutorial being so crude. But I do hope this helps some of the folks that have been on here trying to build one or looking for ideas. Like I said at the beginning this forum got me into tacklemaking and I was inspired by guys like BigM and his painting and Cadman and his jig heads so I figured I would finally pay it forward and post something useful on the boards here. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Thank you for looking guys.
  5. I've been crusiing through ebay and buying plastics in bulk from guys pouring their own. Good quality and they are cheap. I just bought 100 pack of grubs for 20 bucks and bought another 100 last week for 15. Both guys were based in the US. Definitly worth checking out especially if you would like to buy in bulk.
  6. Bass Pro Incredible craw. Shortened with a pincher removed.
  7. well no you couldnt make a mold out of the plastic you would have to make a master to then use with whatever guys are making their own molds with to form it out of something that can take the heat. print the actual model and build a mold around it.
  8. I've been looking at small home CNC machines to play with. I've had some ideas myself for jigs I'd like to play with. They have several ive seen but obviously a very wide price range and all up there a ways. If anything with the 3d printer you could make a master to create molds for some neat soft plastic baits.
  9. I'm one of the ones that carry the 3 main ones. Black/Blue, Greenpumpkin, White. The black and blue stays on the bottom and the green pumpkin and white is either on the bottom or ran like a spinnerbait. I've always read that in a basses mind if its on the ground its a craw fish if its swimming its a bait fish. Kinda just subscribing to the keep it simple stupid. When I'm making my own skirts I will make some of the different ones but mostly to catch fisherman rather than fish.
  10. I know they are a different species but ive about fallen out of the boat before when i hit the pedal and the giant carp that were sitting near by spook so bad it shakes the boat.
  11. was at a ramp one time and there were 3 guys in the water holding this ski boat straight so they could get it on the trailer. They were a little ticked when we drove right by and had the boat loaded and ready to go before they could get off the ramp LOL
  12. I remember that Iaconelli was making shad raps suspend by just changing the belly hook. i imagine the split rings would make a difference.
  13. The size of the boat doesnt matter lol. I had an elite 7 and two humminbirds mounted on a 14' sylvan. Honestly if I were you i'd probably wait and save up a bit and get an elite 5 with the gps/sonar/dsi or a couple hundred more and get the elite 7. The Elite 7 is a great value and it does everything except side scan. Thats jmo of course.
  14. I love buzz baits. My favorite catch to this day was on a buzzbait in a local river. My younger cousin was with me and i cast it out and ran it the full length down a log. I told him watch I bet I ticked something off over there and he gave me the "yeah right" look. I cast back made it half way down the log and BAM a very healthy 3 pounder. Took him awhile to pick his jaw up off the floor but the kid has been hooked since.
  15. lol have you hit all the sites now with it? lmao jk
  16. Lol thats my complaint with mg is i cant stand the foot pedal. Ive had one issue with minnkota the mom button had issues. The button would stick and i couldnt get it to turn back off after i hit the button. Of course it happened right before i was gonna leave on vacation. called mk and they had me a new part the next day.
  17. They miss the fact they are out enjoying a hobby. And other people are out enjoying the same hobby as them and there is no reason to be an ass to each other. Some guys treat this stuff like they got the bassmaster classic on the line and they gotta be where someone is and that guy is an idiot cause he found a spot with his 14' tin boat and not a 21 foot glass boat and blah blah blah blah ive heard it all on the rivers around here. one guy couldnt believe i wouldnt pull anchor and give him the spot after he spent an hour crowding into me. I found out later the guy waited till i left and came back and tore up his fancy boat trying to jump a cable that we were catching fish on......
  18. So are you putting a heavy enough weight on so it sticks on the bottom and you have the control or are you putting a lighter weight on so the current kinda pulls them along for you as you drift down?
  19. Best outdoor channel that everybody with a web connection gets is Youtube. You can catch The Next Bite, Lindners, not to mention several smaller groups that honestly have more information. And they even tell you were there fishing and how they are fishing. The Lindners even starting putting their full episodes up on their website to watch. Forget fishing shows on tv. I hook my PC up to my tv and watch fishing shows any time i want to. Dont forget bassmasters.com has every single bass master classic from the beginning to last years up on their website as well. There is a ton out there guys you just gotta look for it instead of wait for it on tv.
  20. You might wanna check out some walleye places and learn about vertical jigging. The main point alot of guys say is to keep your boat pointed into the wind which ever direction that is and then you will move with the current and your bait will stay under the boat. Then you just have to kick your trolling motor on for short bursts to get back on top of your bait when the wind pushes you off.
  21. They ask if you misheard him cause Gman is the king of sarcasm and jokes and its hard to tell sometimes if hes jokin or serious.
  22. In theory isnt it open to the public they just have to be a student at a school first? Its not an NCAA sport its a club activity. I saw a couple schools with older members on the fishing team that were legit students of the university.
