  1. Thanks for the info Bruce. You guys had a dream day out there. I will definitely be looking for the clean water and bait.
  2. The fishing here is usually great all year long. Fresh or salt water, a nice choice to have. The canals along I75 always produce well. I have had days when I caught 30 bass on 30 consecutive casts. Mostly small ones though. Those 5's and 7 are quite good for that area. glad you had a good time here.
  3. I am planning on fishing the O on Monday. I have not been out there since February. Anyone have any Intel to share so I don't have to burn up a lot of fuel? Thanks.
  4. That Government Motors stock is a real bargain!
  5. It is great to spend a few hours with the kids fishing and catch a few bass. My daughter is 2.5 so I will have to wait another couple of years before I bring her out in the boat with me. Looking forward to it though. I have been catching smaller bass in the grass and flats out west too. The summer pattern seems to have arrived.
  6. The lake is beautiful. I fished there a couple of years ago. As I remember, there are hotels near I95 or the turnpike
  7. At night, if you listen very carefully, you can hear the Chevy's rusting!
  8. Tons of mudfish down here in south florida, especially in the hotter summer months.
  9. Those are some nice bass. Our northern bros need to experience the quality bass that are here in south florida. That area looks familiar. Were you fishing the Miami canal near the L67? Anyone got a report from the Holey lands ? I have not read any reports from there in a while.
  10. Sounds like you were slaying em. The toads work good, but my hook up % is usually 1:3. The dippers are usually 8:10. I had a lot of side work to do this weekend so I never made it out there. Where were you fishing, in the flats? It has been pretty good there. I might head out to Holiday or sawgrass this weekend for a change...haven't been out there in a while. Any reports from the Holey lands?
  11. All I can say is that I have the stars and stripes on my truck and my boat and I still get goose bumps when I hear the national anthem played. When these types of incidents occur, IMHO,they have to be challenged peacefully and lawfully and brought under a media spot light.
  12. You need to buy a different boat.
  13. It idles slowly, almost borderline stalling during the summer, a little faster when it is cool. I suppose I could bump up the idle a bit. You could change the idle screw, but you would have to change all carbs (4 or 2 on that motor?) the same amount. You can mark them before you try it, that way you can change them back if you screw up. Or take it to the shop if it bothers you. My 1988 48 hp johnson does the same thing, I just drive it with some (full) throttle and try not to idle around, it can get interesting at crowded ramps. Mine only seems to die when idling in gear though. Who knows! The motor is a 6 cylinder, with 6 carbs. I think the throttle cable can be adjusted to open all the carbs together to increase the idle. I will give that a try. Huh? Six carbs? Friend, you better get someone else working on that motor. Three carbs is what it has. Those old motors would scream. They love rpms and lots of jetting. Could be a needle and seat problem or as simple as a vaccum leak in one of the carbs. Only a couple of moving parts to each carb. Check the hoses or if you think they need it tear them down, kit them, reinstall, set the mixture and idle adjustments and you should be good to go. I run one on my Skeeter and it's just hit the key and it's ready to go. Yea, it has three carbs. I do not know why I typed 6. Each carb has two venturi's. I do some of my own work, but I will usually let a pro do the carb work. If the easier suggestions do not work, then carb rebuild and link n sync is what I will have done.. Mike Z might be on to something. The seasonal temp and pressure changes could be having an effect. I will put in some seafoam in next time out and see what happens. thanks guys

  16. How much would it cost (ball park) to wrap the hull above the rub rail and inside the interior. I have a faded 87 ranger 373 and it would definitely could be a option instead of painting or expensive jell coating. Just curious.
  17. I have a 2.0 1984 Mercury 150 that has good compression and operates very well up to 5900 WOT. I never run the motor above 5700, but the power is there if I need it.The problem I have with this motor is the constant need to give the motor throttle when starting the engine. Even if the motor is idling, and I turn it off, then restart, I will need to give it some gas. It is not a big problem, but it is kind of annoying. I used to own a 1979 Evinrude 140, and that motor would fire every time with a bump of the key.At the time that I owned it, I really did not take very good care of it yet it always fired reliably.i know both are good motors, but I am wondering why the mercury is so needy at start up. Is there any fine tuning characteristics that I can check? The tank, fuel lines, bulb, gas line fitting, fuel separator are less than 1 year old. Tune up is 2 years old. Carbs are 3 years. The motor also ran the same way on a different hull. Any advice?
  18. It was definitely windy Sunday. A nice 10- 15 S / SE mph breeze is great for offshore fishing, but the gusting wind makes for a lousy day. I used to go ocean fishing in a 17' formula and I never liked the chop to be more than 2-4 ft. I would never go out in my current Ranger bass boat, so I am limited to the drift boat. My son and I will be out there catching the kings as soon as the action picks up.For now, it's frog time in the fresh water.
  19. 4-6 seas are a real workout on the legs on a small boat. Been there. The BF tuna/king bite should be here soon.I love catching 30 lb BF on spinning tackle...a real blast. .
  20. On the 4 lb bass, I let the toad sink on the side of some bull rushes(sawgrass stalks) for a few seconds. The bass picked it up and started moving slowly parallel to the shore when I hooked him up. The others were caught during the retrieve. What was interesting to me was the houdini dippers were not getting as much attention as the trixie shark(white) dippers. Yet the wat/red/pearl underside frogs were working better than the white ones. The water was very clear and the sun was on and off(partly cloudy). It was probably just a difference in my presentation.
  21. I caught 17 bass using white horny toads, wat/red horny toads, white skinny dippers, and wat/red trick worms. Most were 12-14". My big bass was about 4lb on the wat/red toad. I was fishing west of the bend and in the clear water north of the flats. When I was leaving the refuge, a guy fishing in the canal next to the air boat consession hauled in a 7-8 lb'er. He might have been using shiners.
  22. I will fishing there 7-11 Sunday morning. I will be fishing out west of the bend.If anyone else is going, give a shout out. I will be in the Tan/Brown Ranger 373.
  23. Sounds like you had a good outing. I have not thrown a frog yet this season but I sure will the next time out. I went to Lox last Sunday for a little R&R and it was very windy. I caught 4 bass up to 3 lb from 9:30 - 11:45 fishing the flats west past he bend. I lost 3 others (I was trying out different hooks on the skinny dippers). They were biting the Trixie shark (white)colored skinny dippers. I have not had a lot of time for fishing lately, but I try to get out when I can. Kevin
  24. Campbell and Russell are both bums. They are the same player. I agree with RW, the Raider's will never be good until Al Davis is out.
