  1. If you don't mind driving north to Sunrise, our club is always looking for new members. Sunrise Bass Fishing club. If you are interested, let me know.
  2. I have some success using pumpkin/red trick worms fished around hydrilla and buggy whips. I have caught a few 5+ using white horny toad frogs with red hooks along the lily pads and shore. Look for clean clear water with a sand or shell bed bottom.
  3. Thanks for the link / tip.
  4. Thanks for your help guys. I am praying that the pistons, rings, and cylinders are OK. I believe that they are because the motor starts, idles, and runs without any hiccups. The compression test should give me the $5K answer though . Is changing head gaskets a big job? It does not look that difficult. I have rebuilt car engines and I have the tools. What are the chances that I warped the head and what will it cost for resurfacing?
  5. FYI, I assumed in august of 09 with my Mercury. Total cost: $5,063.23 Make sure...Or pay the price. No doubt. One mistake or assumption can be costly. I can change the stats and check the compression myself. How can I test the alarm on the quicksilver controls / ranger boat?
  6. I just transferred this motor to a Ranger hull that has a quicksilver box. I am assuming that the alarm is incorporated into the harness. My OB mechanic did the install. The alarm has not gone off. There is no test beep when you turn the key. The compression was 138-144 in 2008. I am definitely changing out the stats and then see if the temps read normally.
  7. My engine water temp gauge stopped working last weekend so I replaced it during the week. To my shock when I went out yesterday, the motor was running 165 degrees at idle and 220 at WOT! The old gauge was indicating 145,165. The gauge was installed correctly and the sensor bottomed out in the hole. The water PSI runs 5 at idle and 15-18 at WOT.Lately I noticed at little steam when I come off plane when the boat settles back down at idle. Did I damage my engine? It seems to be running OK and I had it serviced last summer (new impeller). I am thinking it might be the thermostats. The motor is a 84 2.0 Merc 150. Any opinions? Should I have the motor checked for damage?
  8. With the gusty winds on Sunday, I decided to postpone the trip to Moorehaven until next weekend. Instead, I went out to Lox and caught 4 (1.5 -3 lb) in 60 minutes flippin wat/red flukes across from the first spillway. My trolling motor quit on me so I had to pack up early. I hear sawgrass is hot. Some of my club buddies slayed them on Saturday.
  9. I was planning on fishing out of Moorehaven this weekend. Some of my club buddies fished out of Belle Glade last weekend and they said it was real slow. One 4 lb and the rest were dinks. A lot of dead fish of all types were floating or under water. Any current updates? Some questions. Would the rotting fish cause the fish to stop biting because of the chemistry of the water or is it more likely that the water temps last weekend (52-58) caused the bite to fall off? Will the loss of the majority of the exotics be beneficial to the bass, crappie and bream population in the long run?
  10. I have restored a 1984 procraft and I currently working on a 1987 Ranger 373. The Ranger was really rough and it is taking some time to put her in decent shape. I enjoy the resto almost as much as fishing. I will probably have 3K invested by the time am finished. Not bad for a reliable and fun fishing machine. Say, when you repainted, what kind of paint did you use? Brush or spray?
  11. The way everything has been coming together for the Jets....Ryan must have made a deal with the devil.
  12. Lots of jet skis
  13. I like the man vs wild show a little better, even if some of the scenarios are staged. It is more entertaining. What would be cool would be a show with Andrew Zimmern from Bizzare Foods teaming up with either of these guys. I want my tarantula or bats gourmet style!
  14. I used turbo tax last year and I found it to be very easy. I started a new business in 2009 so now I might need some help.
  15. All of the cold rain we had friday night must have really dropped the water temperature. The sustained cold we are having is really thinning the herd.
  16. Wow. A twenty pound bass caught out of Loxahatchee in Deerfield! I have fond memories fishing with my dad during the late 60-70's out of the jon boats that could be rented. We(dad) boated our share of 10 lb'ers during that era. A very interesting article about a great fisherman. Thanks.
  17. Nick Satan will find a way to win. Texas will not be able to move the ball against Bama's defense. Alabama wins the Title.
  18. Miami is the only team to win the Super Bowl with a perfect season. Why is this accomplishment being diminished by some? The Pats came close and could not seal the deal, The 85 Bears were close and were defeated by Miami. Don Shula and the other old men did something that no one in pro football has done. Is it wrong for them to hold on to that ? I do not think so. I am disappointed that the Colts did not play their starters and beat the Jets. The Colts are a classy team and they could have done it this year. Peyton Manning is the best QB in NFL history in my book. The Fins fans, Shula, and the other old men would have embraced these Colts. They would have been welcomed to the neighborhood.
  19. Try looking at the area using google earth. You will see the layout of the refuge and some of the cuts leading into the flats.
  20. I fish mostly from the south (Lox rd ) ramp. That is the area that I am familiar with because I live close to that ramp. I have not fished the northern (Southern) section so I am not able to tell you specific advice about canal/flats locations up there. Some of the other guys that live in WPB should be able to answer your question.
  21. Has the state tried to restore the hydrilla and grasses to the SM/F13? If not, are there any plans to do some restoration?
  22. Lox is usually on or off. When it is on, you can load up on 3-6# bass all day long. I like to find slightly difficult to access areas in the flats. Areas that some will bypass. Sometimes you have to plow/pole your way into an area that normally is not fished.I have caught most of my quality fish in these types of areas. If you go far into the flats, you better bring a GPS to find your way back. It all starts to look the same. Stable water level, and temperatures seem to improve the fishing there also. I fished the southern ramp (Lox rd) a couple of days ago. I caught 6 in the 2-3# range fishing the cat tails on the edges of the flats across from the first spillway using red colored worms. Another guy I talked to at the ramp said he was having success using black worms with chartreuse tails. The hydrilla in the open water has diminished some and you can run through it to access the flats with no problems. If you are not willing to venture into the flats, the perimeter canal that runs north from Lox Rd to Lee Rd will give up a few bass, also try the canal running west between the 2nd and 3rd spill way.I will be going out again this afternoon (after it warms up a bit).
  23. Pflueger has been around for over 100 years. The company started out making lures and the expanded to making reels and fishing rods. Congrats on your new combo.
