Is that one of those french hunting dogs? LOL
  6. I agree with Bilerat, run a separate 5 gallon gas tank hooked up to your motor. This will tell you if it is your fuel system or your motor. If it is your motor, pay the $$ for a qualified mechanic to dialnose and repair. If you just swap out parts yourself, your will just be spending extra money. You will have peace of mind. If your fuel system is causing the trouble, check your fuel tank vent in both directions.Replace water/fuel separator filter if you have one.all checks out OK, I recommend having your gas tank cleaned and replacing all of your fuel lines all the way to the motor. Your fuel hoses may appear to be good or new on the outside, but the inner wall of the hose could be delaminating (ethanol damage) under vacuum suction causing a restriction. No way to know for sure so just replace them. I just went through a similiar problem and my gas tank had pieces of clear silicone that were clogging the pick up tube in the tank. It was driving me crazy trying a bunch of different things without success. It was taking the fun of of fishing having a baulky motor. Hope some of this helps.
  7. At first light during a T, I am hunting for the trophy bass. Usually the bigger fish are feeding early and it is when you will get a chance to land some quality. After a few hours, if I am not already culling, I will target smaller fish with downsized tackle to get my limit. After I have my limit, I will determine based upon the days results if I should stay with the same tackle or change up. Of course, if I have not caught anything by 11AM, I will definately tie on the trick worms.
  8. Some of the guys in my club pre-fished last weekend and friday. One of them won and another other caught undersize bass. The others caught a couple, and finished 2-4 place. [b]You were oh so close to a winning stringer, - Ha Ha I could have caught 2 bigger bass in 10 minutes in the canal behind my house. It was a windy, bluebird then overcast, kind of day. Our club has a knack for picking post front sundays 1-2 months in advance. We should work for NOAA.
  9. It was a bit windy and choppy on the lake today. No observation shoal today. The ESE wind made things tough. I caught two keepers on a junebug trickworm on the cut in the fringes of Ritta island. I placed 5th with 2 fish @ 3 lb The winner had 10 lb on 3 bass and the big fish of 5 lbs fishing around cochran pass. I never do very well at the O. Probably because I dont fish there much. Alot of cover, so many places to go. It seems like when I go fish there, I have well set plans- rods ready, etc - but I end up fishing with trick worms because it is my go to bait when I am doing poorly. I have got to fish there more often and find a couple of reliable spots.
  10. Read my thread " gas tank woes" kind of takes the fun out of it. Thankfully I made a smart move and had the gas tank cleaned - now I can focus on FISHING. Keep your chin up - you will get it sorted out.
  11. Replace the ignition switch yourself or take it to the ford dealership.
  12. I going to okeechobee out of clewiston sunday. Im headed to the obervation shoal area. What would be a good choice for lures at first light in the eelgrass. I heard that the swim bait bite is good after the sun rises. Can I get some last minute info? Thanks
  13. I had the tank cleaned by a professional and my boat is running great again. The money I spent was definately cheaper than a trip to the ER with 3rd degree burns LOL There were clear silicone chunks and small cookie sized pieces of clear silicone as well as black gasket parts and sealers trapped in the cleaning filter. Thanks to bruce at gunn marine in ft lauderdale
  14. I bypassed everything. The fuel line runs from the pick up tube straight to the fuel pump. When I hit the gas, then about a 1/8 mile later near WOT, the primer bulb is flattened and the motor is starved.
  15. I will wear some extra sun block and have a few fire extinguishers handy.... LOL just kidding. I decided against the vacuum idea because I could not find anything to make the gas inert and non explosive. I did make some calls and there is a guy locally that can drain the tank and clean the bottom. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the help and I will let you all know how it turns out.
  16. I measured the old tube and cut the new one to the same size. I changed the tube because I though I was loosing vacuum where it attaches to the fitting. After changing it, I still had the same problem. I am going to drain the gas again this weekend. I am looking for a liquid product that will neutralize the gasoline. My plan is to use a old shop vacuum with a PVC pipe on the end to suck out any debris and liquids that might be present on the bottom of the tank. While I am in there, I am going to cut the tube 1/2" shorter so it will not be on the bottom. Any thoughts? Anyone know of a product that will neutralize a little bit of gasoline?
  17. Good luck this saturday
  18. I like to use them early morning, late in the afternoon, or when there is a light chop on the water with overcast skies.
  19. Oh, I forgot to mention, the motor will start back up right away. It usually runs rough for a second or two until the gas gets to all the carbs, then she runs smooth. I dont think it is a thermal problem, it has a newer water pump and thermostat (less than 1 year old). The electrical collar (dont know the name) and wiring around the top of the powerhead was replaced two years ago. It has been running great until this recent problem.
  20. After the motor stalled, I checked the primer bulb and it was flattened. The bulb returned to normal after a 20 seconds. For the bulb to go flat like that, it would mean that the fuel pump is working well, pulling a good vacuum, and that the problem is an obstruction in the fuel line. I will ask my mechanic about the other points you brought up. Thanks Ann Marie
  21. My1984 procraft/1984 merc 150 has some type of fuel restriction problem. The motor starts great, idles smooth, and has great pick up. As soon as I get 1/8 mile or by the time I am trimming out to WOT the motor starts to stumble, then stall. The items I have checked or replaced: New tank pick up tube Confirm tank ventilation Eliminated anti-siphon tank valve Replaced fuel lines from the tank fitting to the fuel pump Replaced primer bulb (installed correct direction) Replaced fuel pump (rebuild kit) Replaced fuel lines from the fuel pump to the carbs Replaced gas with fresh 89 octane / quicksilver lube The water separator is currently bypassed - running from tank to fuel pump - removed gas hose coupling and recepticle The gas tank gas was emptied and I visually looked into the holes into the empty tank and it looked clean. I also took a digital picture of the empty tank through the hole so I could really examine it on the computer by zooming in. I could not see anything that might be causing a problem. The tank is not able to be easily removed. Although I cant see anything, I suspect the problem is there. Any suggestions on a cleaning method or something I overlooked? Kevin
  22. Congrats to you and your wife. We have a 21 month old daughter and the time really flys by. It seems like just yesterday we had our first look at daughter using ultrasound. She brings us so much joy. Catch up on your sleep now..you are going to need it later.
  23. A 1/16" would be awful hard to notice. If there are no cracks in the splash basin area, or flaking or delamination down in the bilge, you probably dont have any reason to worry. Being a old boat, it is probably to worth it to rebuild the transom unless you really love this boat. You can have an 3/16" aluminum plate custom made to you transom for a couple of hundred if you want some piece of mind. It distibutes the load and stiffens the top of the transom (wraps around over the top of the transom into the splash basin) I have a 1984 procraft with a good transom, but I added it because I upgraded to a motor that was the max HP for my boat.
