  1. What type of hook you all use? I just rigged one up with regular bait hook I may use for minnows.
  2. This is a prime example of why you should use what you are good with. I can cast and flip with a spinning reel way more easier than with a bait caster. I can flip easily with my spinning reel and get it close to the target. Just use what you like and are good with. Incorporate the others and over time you have a full arsenal.
  3. I like the Alberto knot. Good one. But with 15lb fluorocarbon I felt it got a little to big for my small guides. Plus I found an easy way to tie this FG knot from a YouTube video. Feel more comfortable with it now.
  4. One thing I have noticed is that a spinning rod can handle those leader knots a lot easier. I have been using the FG Knot and can always feel them going through the tip guide of the baitcaster rod. I have also broken more line on my cast with the casting rod vs spinning. That is using both braided line with leader. Since being introduced to braided line it is so much easier to cast them lighter lures and more sensitive. I love it. You try braided line in the spinning reel? When i get the line twist over time I just walk it out with no lure and then reel it back in with some pressure. Tends to help. I also use some line conditioner prior.
  5. I been looking at getting a baitcaster and the Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0 medium light is rated 1/16-1/2 oz. $209. May check that out. They get really good reviews.
  6. Gotcha. So most my swim baits are like 1/4 oz. and my rod rated 1/8-1/2 oz. i tied 1/2oz lure on it in the back yard to see how far I could cast. With a flip of the wrist it was sent flying. I run braid with fluoro leader tied on with fg knot. I have had my leader knot break a few times at the knot when casting my baitcaster. This occurred when I tried to cast to the moon so I’m paranoid to try too hard now on my spinning gear. Is this what you got? 40 size reel?
  7. What’s the opinion on using spinning rod for cranks, swim baits, and spinner baits? If you like them what gear ration you use? Got a lews xfinity combo from Walmart and it’s 6:2.1. Curious if that ration would be sufficient for those baits.
  8. Maybe it feels over powered because it’s all I have ever had and don’t know different. Just a note that I have used 1/4 oz spinner baits nothing added and it cast fine and no issues feeling over powered.
  9. It was Abu Garcia black max. I believe it’s fast action. It just feels heavy to me. That’s kind of what I was thinking. But, what is your take on those 1/4 oz swim jigs. Let’s just say the storm brand. Those don’t have any additional added skirts or trailers. I bet if the rod was longer than 6’6” then it would feel completely different too.
  10. I’d try and stay $100-150. Had an Abu Garcia black max medium combo. Rated 1/4-5/8. Put a 3/8 chatterbait and it felt too heavy for it. I felt if I attempted to cast hard that it would snap the line. Actually I did snap it a few times. When I say hard I mean overhand. So I just roll cast it to be safe. Ill use 1/4 swim baits, spinner bait, and cranks. Have some bladed 3/8 and 1/2 ounce cranks as well.
  11. I’m looking for a medium heavy baitcaster combo that can handle 1/4-1ounce lure weight. Anyone have any recommendations? I have a medium power and 1/4 ounce jig and trailer feels heavy on the rod. That was with 30lb braid. Do other feel feel that way or should it feel like that? The rod was rated 1/4 - 5/8.

The lure is an Ozark Trail brand crank. Bought it to try because they are $1.

Anyone like these? What lures you using? I seen these in a wiggle wart so bought some to try. Tied directly to braid.
  14. Got this combo at Walmart. $60. Comes in orange too. Amazing rod that is very sensitive. Go check it out!!! http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lew-s-Xfinity-Speed-Spin-Combo/364504196 here is the link
  15. Every one had their techniques on how they spool a reel. All I know is I bought that tool and it worked well on 3 different reels. I have had no issues with line twist. I like it!! I will use it every time now instead of putting the spool on the ground. Also, the line doesn’t start twisting around the original spool like it tends to do.
  16. I love this little this thing right here. Easy to use. Works good on spinning gear. No issues.

They need to make these leagues like baseball. NFL teams own them and can have call ups and send players down throughout the season. If they were affiliated with NFL teams I think it would hold more viewers.
  18. yes. I kinda realized this when someone told me to do a poundage test vs quick jerk or snap of the line. I also realize that the pole will give along with the drag. That would help ease that quick snap.
  19. @dgkasper58 "only have had an issue with casting when the braid dug under itself and locks it up on the reel. I learned to address my digging in issues after casting off a few baits." I had previously said this in a couple posts up... "I assume that is why one time when I attempted to throw a 3/8 ounce lure clear across the lake while on the shoreline it snapped as soon as I got to the finish of my cast? I may have also had too much line out as well and should have had the lure closer to the rod tip. " I think I can relate to that as this is what may or could have happened. So what do you do to address that issue? that may be beneficial to know or do in the future.
  20. I have a question for you... I wanted to see if you had this experience since you are using 15 lb braid. I get they are different brand, but it should still be much the same.
  21. That makes sense. Never thought about that. I assume that is why one time when I attempted to throw a 3/8 ounce lure clear across the lake while on the shoreline it snapped as soon as I got to the finish of my cast? I may have also had too much line out as well and should have had the lure closer to the rod tip. So here is what I like about it. I like the low memory and the ability to go longer in the year without changing line. I have it on 2 spinning rods. Going to use them for small crappie jigs, swim bait type lure, large tail grubs for bass, and maybe minnows or worms on occasions. I have 2 baitcasting. 20 lb and 25 lb. I will use them for largers 1/2 ounce lures such as swim baits, spinner baits, bass jigs, and texas rig creature baits.
  22. So so I bought this stuff and in the 15lb. It doesn’t take much to snap it. Two pliers and quick jerk it snaps. Is 15lb too small or what’s the deal? I thought this is suppose to be strong. I have been doing tests and my modified Albright (fc leader to braid) and palomar knot is width standing the strength test better than the actual main line.
  23. Anyone seen these at your local Walmart? Bought this tonight and a couple of lipless crankbaits awhile ago. Anyone had had any luck with these?
  24. True on the line shine fish. Would you consider walleye and crappie in that same category? I know trout fishing you better have the smallest line possible. I guess I tend to be overly cautious like I’m fishing for them.
