Using snap swivels for convenience
True. This argument assumes that a lure's out of the box action when tied direct is the right action, or its only action. Its intended action is a nebulous proposition due to the fact that the user can drastically change its presentation with rod position, winding speed, cadence, etc. Anglers do this everyday with baits when trying to find out how a fish wants a bait presented. The intended action of a bait is merely a suggestion. A light wire snap is inconsequential in the entire equation including being visually unappealing. Each and every lure has the entire or greater section of a much heavier hook, or hooks, exposed for fish to be turned off by. I'm inclined to think, or I get the feeling, that some people believe that real fisherman should be able to tie knots period, and all their subsequent arguments for that position are simply tactics to make their case.

Compact SV reel capable of punching
My buddy got one last week, not the CT though, and paired it with a Phenix Feather 7’7”Mh. Once I’m out of this sling I’ll have a night to play with it. Probably a huge mistake on my part, but...

Fish grabbers?
I like keeping both large and small Rapala grippers with me. Totally worth it. Largemouth and smallmouth bass can ruin your day, especially the small ones. Believe that.

What are you doing differently this summer?
Mother nature's in a good mood. They're only 15mph today.

What are you doing differently this summer?
There isn't a one size fits all answer. The approach is very different depending on the lake or pond. Depth, current, or lack of, cover/vegetation/pads, or lack of, baitfish species, etc. If you can describe where you think you'll be fishing most often it'll be easier to spin a few ideas your way.

Good budget swimbait rods.
You know what they say about opinions....Between my brother and myself we have a whole bunch of swim bait rods. Mostly Dobyn's Champions, some Furys, but also Daiwa, iRod, and 13. While this runs contrary to popular opinion, we both agree that the FR795SB is our least favorite. I'd go so far to say that I dislike it quite a bit. Couldn't wait to send it packing, and so did he. I'm not one voice in the wilderness either. If you have to have a Fury then I'd recommend the 806. With line choice you can throw what you need to with it and get by. A Daiwa DX is fine. The 13 Defy Black is much better than you'd think. The lighter power 13 Omen is actually very good.

Compact SV reel capable of punching
Once we top out with overwhelming weeds around here I'll have mine spooled with straight braid. Most solid fish will come in along with a big mop of milfoil matching their weight. That, and fighting them through vast Lily pad fields, will test the gear train. We'll see how it goes. I'll report honestly about it.

Reel handle slipping
When you remove the handle/washers/drag clicker, the first bearing you'll encounter found sitting in the sideplate on the outside is the second crank bearing. That's not the bearing causing your issue. You'll need to remove the side plate completely to access the bearing that's causing the problem from the inside. Once you remove the side plate, flip it, and view the AR bearing set into the sidplate. You don't need to remove it. You can clean it as described by DVT, or you can spray it out with a quality plastics safe electronics cleaner like CRC Lectra-Motive or Paslode Degreaser, if you have some. It dries in a few minutes through evaporation. A shot of compressed air will speed that up. Clean off the AR sleeve. Spray the bearing thoroughly, insert the AR sleeve, rotate it a 1/4 turn, remove it, spray again, then repeat twice. Once it dries put a nice drop of light oil on a cotton swap, spin it between two fingers to tamp down any stray light fibers, then run it over the bearing to lightly coat the needles. Reassemble.

New to Baitcasting: Selecting and Pairing Up Reels to Rods
Do whatever makes you happy. If surfcasters who sling lead on spinners with technique that would blowup any baitcaster can make the transition then you can make the transition from a DC to a non DC, if you put your mind to it. You might not even struggle with it at all. Honesty, while I've heard this hypothesis before about new guys hamstringing themselves with a DC reel, I have yet to hear a true to life story of this occurring.

We all started somewhere. No shame. Nobody's gonna judge you. Just spill the beans on the manufacturer and models. No jail time. No celly named Bubba. Just the asterisk treatment if it's forbidden.

Red eyed bass?
The first time I encountered them was at Lake Mahopac which is on the way to upstate NY. That day was tough with bluebird skies and fresh post front conditions. What was worse is that we ran into more than one huge school of bass near shallow water that wouldn't bite even if you plinked a wacky worm on their noses. I was happy when something cracked my Keitech, but when the line when dead instantly, my buddy said I got a "pancake fish". The red eye was weird, but the stink was nasty. I renamed it the stink bomb fish. Must've got another 15 before we left, but one decent LM each took the pain away.

Compact SV reel capable of punching
Nothing. If the gears get tired, just replace them. My friend has an Alde 50 spooled with 50lb braid on a Phenix Feather 7'7"XH for punch/pitch duty. Suits him just fine. If the gears get tired he'll replace them. Personally, if I'm making 50-70 ft pitches with heavy line, which is often, I prefer a taller, wider, spool than the TW80's 32mmx19mm spool. Just my preference. I'm not bothered whatsoever by fishing with bulkier or purpose built HD reels, so a reel the size and specs of the TW80 will be used for lighter line work. However, if I change my mind about that and go the other way down the line I'm not going to sweat it one bit.

Keeping Your Tackle Storage Rust-Free
If my wife caught me cooking silica packs in her oven, because at that moment our oven would become her oven, I could pitch my best explanation, then bolster it by having her read your thoughtful response, I'd be dead.

Keeping Your Tackle Storage Rust-Free
I'll add that I remove heavily salted plastics from hooks, jigs, whatever, rinse them thoroughly, then hang to dry. It's easy to leave them on, but plastics like a Zako will eat a freshwater hook quickly if left on continuously. I keep Mend-it around, so rehabbing plastics torn by wire keepers is not a big deal.

Compact SV reel capable of punching
So a person punches a mat with a 1 1/2oz weight and, during the excitement and fury of yanking a 5 lb fish through the junk, notices and isolates frame flex on a metal framed reel? I'm calling absolute BS to the10th power on that one, regardless of who said it. Just to be nice about it, let's say their power of perception is super human, and it's true to some small degree. So what? The stuff that bleeds out from NeuroticTour is baffling sometimes.

Rod and Line for Fluke Fishing
4" flukes rigged on Owner Twistlock Light 4/0 get thrown on a Tatula XT 7'MF/ Tatula LT3000 CXH 15lb PP SS to a 10lb Seaguar Blue label leader, but I prefer throwing 5" SK Strike King Caffeine Shads or Big Baits 5" jerk Minnows rigged on Owner Twistlock Light 5/0 or 6/0 on casting gear. Away from pad fields, but over grass I'm using a Daiwa Zillion 1000 G/12lb Suffix DNA copoly/Ark Essence 7'6" MHF. Near or through pads at their current level of growth I'm using a 2020 Lew's Tournament Pro LFS/Daiwa 30LB J8/13 Fishing Omen Black 2 7'3" MHF.

Compact SV reel capable of punching
One day I'll learn to keep my nose out of these hair splitting threads. Meanwhile in the rest of the world people buy whatever they can and use it however they like and everything is usually fine. All without ever entertaining the idea of scheduled maintenance. Meanwhile my Tat SV has been abused in heavy slop, stupid thick milfoil, and dense pad fields for 5 years, and it's still ticking, just not as smooth as new. What a surprise. It's a machine with gears and plastic side plates, and machines age with use. I seriously doubt any much higher build tolerance free floating spool Daiwa platform with metal side and set plates would do any worse, regardless of frame or gear material. Not enough to fantasize about, that's for sure.

It cranks more smoothly than any Tatula I've used. Perhaps it uses the new gear profile? Besides that I don't see it as a power fishing reel myself. That said I know people who use an Alde 50 for heavier duty work than one might expect, so nothing's out of the question Have you cranked the brake up higher for skipping than you're used to with previous SV reels? I was dock skipping IKAs at a very odd angle with a Tat SV and G side by side, and higher settings on the G equaled things out somewhat. Just a bit more thumb with the Zillion is all it took.
