MLF Lake Travis May 2021
For real. Literally down to the second. 2oz is legit crazy close. I would have d**n near asked for a re-weigh if I was Bobby Lane on the last one, just in case.

MLF Lake Travis May 2021
It is definitely coming down to the wire...I've been watching all day.

What bait/lure or technique do you struggle with the most?
I struggle with drop shots too. But to be fair I do not give them an honest shake enough. I am also kind of horrible with a swim jig. I have seen DC swimming a jig and it makes me tired just looking at it. I have seen others just use a straight retrieve with a twitch every once in a while.

Neither am I. He really is the consistent guy out there all the time.

MLF Lake Travis May 2021
Anyone else surprised to see Wheeler at #1? He will definitely need some more to keep Bobby Lane and Birge off of him. This tournament has been crazy as far as the suspense, and unfortunately anglers not doing well at all.

The best thing I have done to help work on this is that I got a DC reel. The SLX DC. I know the digital control system is not needed for skipping, but when you are not good at skipping it is very forgiving. I catch a lot more now that I skip docks and boat lifts. I wont do it though without my DC reels. ( I had to justify why I needed more than 2 of them lol)

Best Bang for Your Buck Graphs??
I like the New FS Elite series from Lowrance. The 3 in 1 Xducer, and Active Target capable. $899 for the 7's and I think $1199 for the 9's. They come loaded with good maps as well from my understanding. I believe they also come with wireless networking capabilities as well.

Unofficial NY State Record
This....That dude caught that LMB using d**n near nothing. Fantastic work regardless if it is a record or not!

What exactly happened to spider wire?
I think advertising has helped out a lot. I see tons of Segar, and other brands advertising either through commercials or the pros talking about it. That helps sway the minds of consumers. To be honest. I tried Suffix Advanced Fluro because Wheeler mentioned it was the best he had ever used. I tried it, it was good. I also now use Red Label because it is cheaper, and I have not had any issues with it. I do not remember the last time I saw a Spider wire ad, or anyone talking about it.

Oh the woes of a bass fisherman and his finances
The key to the marriage things is to ensure you include the spouse. My fiancé loves to be on the boat, so when I say its time to go fishing, she is always down to go! I would not be able to live with someone different.

Be careful!!
This is also the same reason I do not have a motorcycle. In the military there were deaths all the time of Soldiers getting killed on the bike, sometimes to no fault of their own. It was just one of those things, where I was like no, I am not going to do that. I am very careful of things nowadays. Surviving Iraq twice was stressful enough. I am a lot more cautious now, and that may be because I have a son as well, but either way safety is priority for me. Life is just too short.

That is a solid business decision!

No fish in April!
It is probably really cold water temps there. I would imagine those fish being out a bit deeper still. Assuming your bank fishing, I would try to throw a 3/8 oz jig with a craw trailer and slowly drag it across the bottom. The fish may still be a bit lethargic up there.

Fishing gear that has surpassed my expectations
Mine are: 1. Ultrex (Spot Lock is a game changer) 2. Shimano SLX DC's (Very forgiving system especially when skipping)

Oh the woes of a bass fisherman and his finances
I have been working from home for the last 4 years, and I own sweats, and cargo shorts... I have like 5 polos for mandatory video meetings...I love it. I could never go back to the office ever again.

Hit them clearance racks!

Be careful!!
Yea thats quick. I can see the more experience you are, the more confident you will be. I agree with all the room in the world to do it as well. In my area we have a lot of stumps that are in the local reservoir so going that fast without previous experience is a death wish in my opinion.

Oh the woes of a bass fisherman and his finances
I wish I had an academy close by. I was in NC two years ago, and I bought like $100 worth of lures, and had to get searched by TSA because of all the hooks. Thankfully since they were not open they let me keep them! Aint this the truth lol...Its just not the fishing stuff. In the winter here I cannot fish. So I go to my other hobby. I have a 1972 Chevelle that I am restoring in my garage. Winter money goes to the Chevelle. Spring and Summer goes to the boat and fishing.

Oh the woes of a bass fisherman and his finances
My fiance gets on me because I will not buy a $25 shirt (a nice one), but I have no problem buying more SLX DC's. Also she mentioned to me why I keep getting my 3 subscription services when I have like 3k worth of bait and tackle in the boat. I guess I do not have a good answer to that either, except for I like surprises.

If you can't drive your boat onto your trailer
Exactly...So this saves you 8ft if it works right all the time, and probably costs like $2500...
-
Be careful!!
Both are tragedies for sure. You know...honestly going anything over 55mph on flat water makes me a bit nervous. When the water is rollin, I hate driving fast through it. I always wear my PFD when I am driving etc, but it just makes me nervous. When I see the 250's on the lake opened up, I always make the comment in my head....that wont be me, even if I had a new rig with a 250.

If you can't drive your boat onto your trailer
The odd thing about this is that it just shows the boat automatically getting up to the point, where it self loads. Assuming he was on the boat alone, which it seems apparent in the video, how did he get the boat up to the point straight enough for the mechanism to start auto loading?

Soft swimbaits for deep lake smallmouth
I do not see why this would not work out. I actually was going to do some of that offshore in my last derby. The water roughness stopped that, but I had a swimbait rigged up I with a 3/4oz jig head so I could get down to the 25-30 range for smallmouth. I believe in the heat of the summer it could work out well if you can find em out deep.

$100 Baitcaster
I think Favorite has a couple of $100 entry level combos that may be worth a look. https://favoriteusa.com/collections/combos/products/favorite-army-casting-combo

1st Tournament down, many to go...
The second event is coming the 16th of May. It may be a cool series to do...”the newb to bass tournaments”. The experienced folks probably won’t care but some of the other guys like me who haven’t done it before may be interested. I don’t film anything but I do have two go pros.
