  1. I have this reel in 6 speed and love it. I also have a few different Tatula varieties and I feel if your good bumping up to a Fuego your father in law will be very pleased and probably never wear it out. Either or will be a good fit but I’m a big fan of the fuego mag force Z braking system.
  2. I will start by saying the Bass Pro in Bolingbrook Illinois is on my “spring classic” sale radar for the trade in’s plus I like and plan on purchasing another “panfish elite” rod this year. The BPS in Gurnee Illinois has a special place in my heart as I had a hand “building” it as a carpenter in my youth. Used to love the Cabelas in Hammond Indiana but that was more for the footwear/boots but still love my Cabelas “Arachnid” reel. The “Dicks” sporting goods in Tinley Park Illinois carries a small but decent selection as does the Wal-Mart in my hometown of New Lenox Illinois. The Wal-Mart’s in Morris as well as Decatur Illinois are even better. There are 2 shops that stand out in my immediate area, the first being “Fishing Connection” in Orland Park Illinois, Greg the owner was as of last year still running the store that I first stepped into 25 plus years ago. And my favorite for the last 8 plus years is “Anglers Outlet” currently in Tinley Park Illinois. The store is completely awesome as it’s wall to wall and floor to ceiling fishing gear with the most “INCREDIBLE” staff from owner to sales people that are friendly and as well hard core knowledgeable. I’ve frequented the establishment as a youth when they were known as “Ed Shirley & Sons” in Markham Illinois for anyone old enough to remember them then. You’re greeted at the entrance with a sandwich board with the latest fishing reports from Lake Michigan to the county forest preserves and feel free to ask the staff about anywhere in between. The owner will buy/trade in your older/used fishing gear that he then resells for a fair price as well as offers gear from budget friendly to enthusiast level at the same or better prices you will find anywhere else. I’ve asked about ordering certain gear that I’ve not seen in store and have always been quoted a fair price also. They are/were a well known fixture at what was my favorite fishing show the “Tinley Park High School” fishing show held for many years in February where many fond memories of being with my brother were formed. One of my favorite things are the bargain/$1.00 bins where you never know what you will find from bobber packs to lead weights to open/old stock worms and lures that were probably purchased from a garage sale and long forgotten about but still work given a chance? Not sure if you’re referring to the Rosemont convention center show in Rosemont Illinois, but if you are wow it’s been a long time since I’ve been to that one?. Ed Shirley & Sons booth was where I bought my first bass fishing combo after getting back into fishing in ?1993-1994
  3. Just wanted to give a follow up. I received my replacement (med.light) rod this week, it was a nice surprise as it wasn’t supposed to come until 2nd week of March. I’m kind of shocked as I think I remember the med. powered rod being a little more moderate in action where as the med light feels faster? I’m not complaining and testing it next to my current rod of choice for Ned rigs, a 6’-3” x-fast light powered rod it seems the action is comparable, especially when compared to my 6’-6” med powered fast action rod (mod. fast) which was my 2nd choice for Ned rigs. Can’t wait to get this rod on the water this upcoming season. Once again thank you to those who responded to my original post.
  4. Still one of the greatest super bowl advertising runs? Although I was happy with the pre game commercial from Lays featuring Marshawn Lynch, Peyton, Eli Manning and their father Archie and the other NFL/Super Bowl greats?
  5. As I said to my brother with the face grab/tackle I’m getting tired of cameras catching the infractions but the referees miss them. I get the fact the referees are human and can’t see everything but stop showing the stuff after the fact.? I for one am tired of seeing these kind of infractions making the difference either way and costing one of the teams the game. I realize in the end it didn’t matter but at the time and as others have pointed out their are quite a few missed calls on the field but not missed by the cameras. ?Thinking maybe it’s time for some evaluation in the officiating of the game. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.
  6. In the words of David Lee Roth, “Tell us how you do…”.
  7. I loved the pre super bowl commercial from lays featuring many of the greatest ?
  8. Good luck @slonezp?. One of the better starting Super Bowls.
  9. Is there a separate Super Bowl thread?
  10. And that my friend is why you shouldn’t/don’t need to sell them. Your comment sums it up perfectly in my opinion.
  11. I was trying to give your comment a “thanks” but I’m out of reactions for the day?. So thank you for the words of encouragement and I’m looking forward to “dipping my toes in the water”? Thankfully the bait monkey didn’t get involved in this foray…..yet?
  12. Well before this thread gets “turned off” I’d like to say it inspired me to try “bfs” this spring/year. I want to give a thank you to @bulldog1935 who has been a HUGE inspiration in this whole “bfs” genre as have several others on here by sharing their gear especially the budget stuff. I can’t find the “post” but man if this works out I’m keeping my eye on the “Obsession” rod on “Ali Express”. With that said here’s my future setup, please feel free to share any thoughts/suggestions. Reel: Piscifun Saex Elite, it’s an “Ardent Elite” with dual brakes (not sure if Ardent has centrifugal) I bought it with a “spare” spool, a 6’-0” fast action/med. powered rod 1/8-1oz weight range ?and I’m planning on 7lb monofilament as I already have it. For lures I’m planning on mainly tried and true road runners in 1/16 oz range and panfish cranks. Looking forward to trying this out and until then hearing any advice. Lastly this doesn’t mean I’m giving up spinning gear? as I’m planning on appeasing the bait monkey with a new 7’-2” bps panfish elite rod this upcoming spring classic sale ?
  13. Forgive me in advance if this becomes boring. Not sure of the year but definitely quite a few years ago I was at a local fishing show, (Tinley Park) for my south side Illinois guys?, and I remember a vendor selling ?a “Mitchell spider cast” spinning combo ? Oh man did I want that rod but he wouldn’t split the combo and if memory serves me it was $85.00 or more ?for the ultralight combo. A few laps later I came across the “Ed Shirley & sons” booth (South Side?) and purchased this one for $30.00(?) the rod only. Still using to this day as a bobber rod for panfish and thankful my brother talked me into spending what I thought was too much back then? Bought the “Mitchell Fulcrum Pro” at my local K-Mart after seeing Roland Martin using one on his TV show?
  14. I get mine at Wal Mart? The fish may be dinks but I really don’t care. Bonus it’s cheaper than live bait ?
  15. Just for fishing has leftover and demos listed at times which is where I got my Tatula type R.
  16. I’m going to add if you’re not in a rush, be patient and deals will be available. Most of my reel purchases have been when their on sale, bps trade in during the spring classic or exceptional finds such as my Daiwa CA80 from E-bay. The thing that scares me with E-bay is knock offs but if the seller has a solid reputation and is preferably a brick and mortar store I’m in. One of my best purchases is a Tatula type R for $89.95 from a store I’m not sure I can mention ? @MN Fisher posts some great places for deals on leftover or returned reels. I’m going to add I have 2 low end reels 1 each from Kast King and Piscifun, I wouldn’t recommend them above a black max or equivalent but I do have several top of the range Piscifun spinning reels and 1 casting reel I’ve been using without any issues for several years now and wouldn’t hesitate to purchase a Piscifun phantom. Lastly I’ll add I’m fortunate in that I have a local tackle shop that buys and sells used gear. Good luck and happy bargain hunting .
  17. Im sorry to hear this? but it sounds like you’re still able to enjoy fishing. Best of luck and hopefully with time you will regain your skills in your left hand. Sending prayers for a full recovery ??
  18. Not trying to be funny, it honestly looks like a chicken nugget.
  19. Not trying to talk you into it but if seller has a good return policy you could consider trying out left handed retrieve. If it wasn’t for my brothers left hand retrieve Curado years ago I might not be fishing with a bait caster at all.
  20. As someone who doesn’t currently fish “bfs” I couldn’t agree with this sentiment anymore. Well said Big Rick.
  21. I bought one and couldn’t be happier. You will find some who argue it’s not a real Daiwa but at $64.95 which is what I paid it’s been a heck of a steal imho.
  22. @bulldog1935 is a true wealth of knowledge who’s helped me out of a few times also. He also has some pretty awesome looking gear that he shows on here from time to time.
  23. I remember the wide spool technology and thinking must be marketing hype by all manufacturers ?, nowadays people talk about bigger spool sizes comparative to rod size for less line twist. Me I’m happy putting a 500/1000 size reel on an ultralight rod, 2000 on a light/med light and so forth ?. Just saying I think this is why BPS is still around as Johnny Morris was always ahead of/in the game, kind of like @Deleted account coming up with new “fun” technology for bicycles. With that said I traded in my old Citori baitcast reel in 2019 because I realized I prefer left handed reels in both spinning and bait casting.
  24. I realize this is not a reply to the question but seeing the bottom photo made me realize I need a movie marathon day. Young Frankenstein, History of the world part 1 & Blazing Saddles. The perfect trilogy to escape the insanity of the world in my opinion ?
