Lures that DON"T work??
Jigs - it's not that I don't throw them. It's just that I lose them every few casts. I don't know if I've ever had one last more than 10 casts. Even with Yo-Zuri #12 I broke the line on snags. However, I think that nasty bottom must be holding something good . That's why I've been stocking up on clearance jigs this winter And, PowerPro is on sale this week BTW, I'm a bank fisherman so snags are a common occurance

Help pairing rods and reels
Here's a summary of the opinions I've seen posted this year. This may seem counter-intuitive, but many prefer faster 7.X reels for jigs and slower reels for cranks. The faster reel allows slack to be quickly reeled in while bouncing jigs off the bottom - it helps you to get set for a good, quick hookset. With cranks, deep divers may not reach optimal depth if reeled too quickly, or they may just be too fast... Many feel it is easier to speed up a 5.X reel while cranking, than to slow down a 7.X. Personally, I prefer faster reels in all situations. Then again, I don't have any tournament trophies ;D

Gamma Line
Would the #10 be a good match for a Chronarch MG 50 matched to a finess rod? I presume #6 is ideal for spinning reels. Thanks

Shorter Anglers
- Favorite Short Casting Rods <= 6'3"
Thannks Thomas, naturally an IMX would be my first choice. Unfortunately, my wallet thinks otherwise Stupid recession So, I'm trying to convince myself that I should go with something very light - if it can be found at a "very light" price- Wacky Rigging, My Way
Thanks Crestliner - in what section of W-M do you find those particular elastics?- Favorite Short Casting Rods <= 6'3"
Thanks, I have the 6'3" MXF Spinning version of the Crucial. It's a nice little rod. If there was a 6'0" Cumara I'd have it already I've toyed with the idea of a G-Blanks rod, but I'm afraid I'll get caught up in the upgrade/customizing aspect Leon- Shorter Anglers
I'm 5'7 and prefer shorter rods because I fish from the shore in brushy areas. I think the smaller rod gives me more control when working through a 2 or 3 foot open space or when fishing over tall grass on the edge or structure sticking up in the air at the water's edge. However, one of the main reasons that I don't like 7' rods is that I don't care for rear grips approaching 11 inches. Since I seldom use or need 2 hands in my fishing situations, the extra grip feels awkward to me.- B and R outlaw rods?
Banor, great feedback on the B&R Rods. From your observations, I think the B&R rods may be a bit too slow for my current need. However, you did present them in a positive light- Favorite Short Casting Rods <= 6'3"
Thanks bassinfla82, I will look into it- Favorite Short Casting Rods <= 6'3"
I'm looking for a short casting rod to match a Shimano Chronarch MG 50. Figuring that the MG 50 is so light, I'm thinking that I should be looking for a light, finesse type rod. Lure range from 1/5 to 5/8. Fast action. The Powell 633 CEF at <3.4 oz seems like a good match (but it is being discontinued The 6'3" Zillion looks fantastic, but might be out of my budget My default rod is a 6'6" MHF Techna AV that weighs < 4.2 oz. You suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!!- Rain gear
LL Bean has some great looking rain gear, but it is pricey. Occasionally the have really good sales.- Help decide New Quantum Energy Tour PT or Shimano Chronarch MG?
Get a New Chronarch MG 50 now while they are still available - who knows if you will be able to get this classic NIB in the future. You can get a great deal on the 2009 Energy this November when they are on closeout ;D ;D ;D For the Shimano Posse- Zoom trick and finesse
Last year I started using them as floating worms (weightless T-Rig) in white. I was actually thinking about starting a thread to see how else to use them. I've picked up a few 1/4 oz Spot Remover Pros, and I'm thinking of getting some lighter original Spot Removers.- B and R outlaw rods?
Primus, thanks for that feedback. How fair are the lure ratings for the B&R rods. I think some manufacturers are more conservative (tighter range) than others who are more generous (very optimistic about the ranges). Thanks- B and R outlaw rods?
I haven't seen many posts about B&R, but most I have seen are positive. I'm hoping that they will return the email questions that I sent last week. Leon- Is this a good deal?
Congrats on owning a Classic- P-Line Flouroclear and Yo-Zuri Hybrid
In my LIMITED experience, here's what I found with #6 & #12 FC & YZ-US. I did NOT use line conditioner: YZ-US - far stronger, but not enough to prevent me from breaking the line on snags and other operator error situations. - more wind knots, tangles & kinks - my father, who does not pay attention to line type, complained after I switched from FC (sort of a blind test) - not available locally for me PL-FC - not as strong - thinner diameter for similar rating - more manageable, fewer tangles & kinks - better casting - less forgiving to poor knots (P-Line is fair when suggesting a couple extra twists for a cinch know) - less visible in and out of the water - available locally for me I prefer the manageability of FC, but will try UltraSoft again this year, except I will also use line conditioner.- zillion or energy pt
It's Deja Vu all over again ;D It's funny though, last year these were Revo, Daiwa, Shimano, Pflueger discussions. It appears the design of the new Quantums has generated a lot of interest. If the new models hold up [consistently]through 2009, we may have a lot more reels to consider in the future- Help decide New Quantum Energy Tour PT or Shimano Chronarch MG?

Thanks Burley! I just added this thread to my favorites- Help decide New Quantum Energy Tour PT or Shimano Chronarch MG?
An early adopter issue ;D The MG is proven The new Energy looks pretty, but doesn't have a track record yet. I personally have a history of buying innovative, and unproven products. That said, I just ordered an MG because I wanted to own a classic I also have a Tour Edition 1171 awaiting its first use - Favorite Short Casting Rods <= 6'3"
