Bass sticking their head out of the water.
At my local pond I see bass popping their heads out of the water and then ducking back in. Why are they doing this?

I just got my baitcasting reel. What should I know before my 1st cast?
Just learned from this. Thank you. I went again today for about 5 hours. I brought only the baitcaster so no matter what I had to deal with the situation. I figured out a bunch but I realize when setting up my reel I may have been holding the rod to high. I was holding it at a 45 degree angle and Glenn said 90 degrees. Further more I was good side arm casting but not over head casting. It was due to my hand positioning. Thank you for the link. Its very helpful.

This technique saved me a lot of time picking at the nest tbh. It didnt get tham all undone. I had to do some picking but it worked alot more often than it didnt.

I just got my baitcasting reel. What should I know before my 1st cast?
So I decided to go out to the delta. I live in northern California. I dropped a line in the water with frozen anchovies for stripers (tis the season) and spent 6 hours throwing the Baitcaster. A couple of backlashes but nothing terrible. No Braid lost at all. Every backlash I was able to fairly easily get it pulled and back on the road. I used a rattle trap 1/2 oz as my 1st lure. I found the brakes half down work well for me. My thumb is already able to feel if and loops are forming during the cast and applies pressure to slow the spool. I am absolutely loving this! The ability to trully control the distance, accuracy, and the entry into the water are just leaps and bounds better than my spinning set up. Thank you all for the info before I went out today. Without it I wouldnt have known to stop the spool right before it hit the water. That was probably the most important piece of information you all gave me.

The avg test limit for the rod is 22.5 lb. The drag on the reel is 18lb. Ive been told by my local bait shop I shouldnt go over the drag limit but I dont think they know much of anythig about bass fishing tbh. Lol. Then again neither do I so I think its a case of blind leading the blind. Lmao

I just got my baitcasting reel. What should I know before my 1st cast?
From all the videos I have watched and the limited bit I did in my back yard I am seeing it needs to be a smooth motion. So far any type of snapping causes a backlash lol. Thats ok though. I will get out to the water and learn my lessons like the rest and master this beast!

I just got my baitcasting reel. What should I know before my 1st cast?
Thank you for all the info. I made sure the handle is on the side I use my spinning gear. That was actually #1 priority lol. Im a lefty and enjoy reeling with my right hand. Will mono react better with backlashes than braid? How about Fluorocarbon? I want the least issues however I really like the strength of braid. Thank you once again!

I just got my baitcasting reel. What should I know before my 1st cast?
I just recieved my baitcasting reel. I have spooled it with 30 lb braid. What do I need to know before I make my 1st cast with it? I have never used one before. Thanks.

How many techniques did you start with?
This is how I am going about this as well. I am picking 3. I just began fishing this summer. I will become comfortable with those and then once I fell confident I will learn 3 more.

Striper fishing with lures what works well?
I just began fishing this year. I am about 7 minutes away from the delta. I understand that frozen bait cut bait and live bait are what is reccomended. However I feel if I can practice some retrieves using lures that I would normally use for largemouth bass it would up my game. What lures are good for both largemouth and stripers?

A trailer on a spinnerbait or not?
As the title says im not talking trailer hooks. Im talking trailers. Generally from what I have seen most of the spinners thrown have no trailer on them. However I have seen a few in some videos where there was a trailer as well. Do you throw a spinner with a trailer on it? I have not. Im still brand new. I might try it next time out.

As a lefty if I get a right hand reel is there any reason I need to switch hands after casts?

Fishing a spinner and buzzbait on 30lb braid.
Im bank bound and it is a 2 mile hike uphill to get to this lake. I need to travel light as possible. I tied it on out of necessity and it worked out well.

Fishing a spinner and buzzbait on 30lb braid.
So I am aware of fish being line shy with finesse type presentations. But what are the thoughts on throwing spinnerbaits and buzzbaits on braid? I did so today and caught 4 large mouth. One being my PB. 5lbs. So what is the general consensus on this?

Listening to music while bass fishing
Understood. So I went like I had said and fished without music. The results were stellar tbh. I noticed things I was not noticing before. I heard fish in areas I was not fishing. And due to it I caught 4 large mouth and my PB. So thank you.
