  1. At the ponds I fish they seem to be eating in one area while nothing happening in another. Generally if I can catch one I can catch at least 2 more. But what I have noticed from going to multiple different ponds is depth matters. If the pond has no real deep points it becomes really easy to predict where the fish will be. Now its the game of what will they eat today. Once I have figured that out it once again becomes easy to catch. What I have come to realize really fast is that it doesnt matter what I want them to eat. It doesnt matter that I like throwing a chatterbait if they dont care about it. If they want a senko (which is my least favorite presentation) I can't try to force a buzzbait.
  2. Im sure you are correct on that.
  3. They were swimming directly at me while I was fishing. I would try to lead them with my lure but they just didnt care. They were swimming the bank all day long. They saw me and just kept doing what they do. Like you said I could have hit them on the head with a jig and they wouldnt have cared.
  4. I tried using a skirt grub as a trailer but I had to burn it to make it plane. Then I tried a rage swimmer and same deal. I took off the skirt and tried both without but it runs sideways a bit without the skirt. My inexperience has made me feel its just easier to leave the skirt on no trailer lol
  5. Took the wife to lake Berryessa yesterday for a bit of fishing and swimming. The bass just did not care about us being in the water at all. They swam incredibly close to us. One jumped out of the water 2 feet from the wifes head. They also didnt seem to care if my lure hit hard soft or in between during fishing time. Fish everywhere just doing there thing. These bass are so desensitized to human activity its mind boggling.
  6. A-Jay said it best in his last sentence. lts obsession. You dont see the same people day after day after day fishing for bluegill or whatever will eat the worm. But you sure do see the same folks day after day after day going after bass. Im brand new but I have already noticed this.
  7. What I see here is a man who needs a fishing buddy. I would have taken the que when he said all are gone leaving me to walk the bank alone and offered to meet that gentleman again so he could have a fishing buddy again. Maybe im too nice of a guy but thats what I would have done. Make a friend and bring back a feeling for someone who lost it long ago.
  8. I just got back from lake berryessa and I only got 1 bite on the chatterbait. I tried many different colors, trailers, sizes and so on. They only seemed interested today in a fluke and a senko. I still maintain chatter or spinner are my confidence baits currently lol
  9. Any top spots I should be aware of in berryessa? My 1st time fishing there. Thanks.
  10. I do love a solid challenge! And yep I have already seen what you are talking about lol. I still need to downsize.
  11. I cant say I own a whole of of gear and such. I consider that a good thing currently. I just began fishing this year. I have to hike 2 miles in order to get to where I can fish for bass from the bank. I bring most everything with me that I have in a backpack. I decide what to throw once I get there. I am already finding I would benefit from either a different place to fish for bass from the bank that isnt a 2 mile hike away or less stuff. So I am really trying to understand as fast as I can what works under what conditions so I can pre plan instead of lugging around everything I own.
  12. Thank you! All info is new info to me lol.
  13. Is there a chapter 1 I can read by chance?
  14. The depth couldnt have been more than 3-4 feet where we were throwing.
  15. This lake as well is no craft what so ever. Bank fishing only. Im considering getting one of those casting fish finders. I dont have a boat yet anyway so I will probably make good use of it.
  16. Today I had a squirrel steal my earbud headphones. I dropped them and didnt realize it until I saw him taking off with a shinny thing and my earbud bouncing behind him. I yelled, people pointed and laughed. It was a good time had by all.
  17. So today I went to a lake I frequent often. I saw some locals I have seen before and they were watching me closely. One came over to me and asked why I am using a chatterbait in one area instead of a jig. Basically what I found was happening. I threw the jig and I had not even a nibble. When I threw that chatter it would get hit on the 1st crank of the reel. Now this spot was a tight area that a jig would make alot of sense for. But it seemed the movement of the chatter was what mattered. He rigged up a punch rig next and tossed it in the same spot. He got nothin. We took turns going at this spot him with a punch rig and me with the chatter. I got 4 fish from that spot he got none. This water was fairly clear. His punch was tungsten with a craw and the chatter was green with a green with red flake trailer. Is it just my newness (beginners luck) or is there something to this?
  18. Unfortunately it is not that low. I cant see humps and such. When I got back Il snap some pictures to show what I mean. When I say low I mean it is receded probably a good 150 feet from the high point. But still has plenty of water in it. It is mostly grass that is laying down where it has receded. But just from your post I can already think of a couple of spots to mark so thank you very much!
  19. As the title states I am making a map of a local pond/lake in my area. Currently the water levels are extremely low. Here in Northern California it goes about 6 to 8 months with no rain. Then it comes fairly hard and fast for the rest of the year. Currently I have a decent view of land that will be covered with water come November. What are some of the things I should be looking for to mark off for good fishing spots once the water levels are higher? Please feel free to unload all you know. The more info the better! Also want to say thanks for all the help as of this point. You all have turned fishing into catching for me and I trully appreciate it.
  20. Lmao. Yep you deserve one for that. They unfortunately wouldnt help. I was wearing prescription glasses. Still needed a buddy to tell me it was a turtle hahaha.
  21. Day 4 now with it. Still have not had to cut out any line. Had minimal backlashes and when I did have them I had them undone and back to fishing within 20 seconds. Aim is improving alot as well. I do have a couple of question though. For soft entry into the water at a decent distance what has to be done? I have noticed that following the lure down to the water with the rod tip and pulling back a small bit seems to help. Im sure there is a way to feather the spool as well to help. I am just not exactly sure what I am supposed to be doing. Also is flipping and pitching done with the same settings on the reel? It just doesnt seem to have much velocity at all. Probably my form lol
  22. So update to my inexperience. It was turtles lmao. Nothing to see here folks. Move along.
  23. My yard is small. But I see the logic here and will just got to the delta and cast with closed eyes for a week. Same theory just no hitting the shed lmao
  24. Thank you Glenn. You sir are the holy grail of knowledge. I knew nothing before I began watching your videos and reading your content. Now I am more well equipped than most of the people I have fished with knowledge wise. Lol
