  1. That makes no sense, of course the bass are attracted to the shiners it's literally what they eat to survive. If anything they are becoming conditioned to not eat shiners if they end up with an extraterrestrial abduction experience every time they go after one ? Probably what's happening...any old species can get caught up in the nets. I don't see how it can't be even a bit negative. Why hasn't anyone started a shiner farm? Sounds like it could be a lucrative business. Thankfully, nothing like this in my area and there probably never will be. It's hard to have my own opinion when I don't live down there. Thanks for the write up! Interested to see what others have to say.
  2. I don't know, I've given cheesy answers in the past but I just can't honestly explain it. I love fishing, plain and simple.
  3. Hope you're feeling ok!
  4. No one going day 4 either, but I got two of my DTL guys fishing tomorrow. Martin and Benton. Todays showing improved to me 17 overall for DTL; counting both tournaments so far, not for Harris specifically.
  5. If you tied a good knot that is. I started out with a blood knot and half of the time I'd come up again with no leader after getting hung. Might have been my poor ability to tie knots but then I switched to an Alberto and 95% of the time I now get my leader back too.
  6. Lots of good dropshot hooks out there, I like the gamakatsu split shot drop shot hooks. #1 or 1/0 depending on the size of the bait. Weights, hard to go wrong there too. I use lead cylinder ones. They're cheap and I snag a lot so I can't justify the price of tungsten for dropshotting.
  7. I hope that otter manages to get the hook out! I don't see how he would have been able to get it out anyways. Those things look tough and I wouldn't put my hands anywhere near its mouth.
  8. All my fishing buddies only go fishing with me..they’re really the casual type. So I’m not afraid to show them the spots. When it comes to dock talk..I keep my mouth shut. I don’t ask other people where they were fishing either. If I assess that someone is a risk to my fish then I really don’t say a word ?
  9. Dropshot, ned rig, light weight and light wire jigs/swimbait heads: braid to leader cause they’re on my spinning rods. Simple as that. Braid is more manageable on spinning reels because it has basically no memory and doesn’t twist as bad. Everything else on your list (including heavy jigs and heavy swimbaits): mono or fluoro because the braid offers me no advantages throwing those baits. Even thick diameter mono/fluoro handles well on baitcasters. Just don’t cheap out on your line if you can avoid it. Now, if you added frogs and punch rigs, I would have said straight braid cause it saws through grass well compared to mono. It gives an advantage.
  10. Depends how you define important…I love ‘collecting’ lures and soft plastics. I’m not a rod and reel junky but I still get what I need for the job. But for actually fishing my rod and reel are far more important because they make me feel comfortable throwing whatever I throw. I like the cliff analogy. I’m dropping my lures lol
  11. Of course! I didn’t mention that in my post either, actually fishing it is a different story LOL
  12. No Gross, I’m saving him for Pickwick! Or should I use him at Chickamauga? for this tournament I got Cox, Benton, Cook, Rivet, Martin, Krieger, Tacoronte and Canterbury. I’m not doing amazing for Harris but I did really well for SJR.
  13. I have a ton but no idea where they’re from. My father bought them as part of a gallon bucket of various soft plastics a long long time ago. I don’t think I’ve ever thrown one. I found a 4” version from YUM on tackle warehouse, but they are only available in green pumpkin and watermelon red. Only 2.47 a pack too. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Yum_Lizard/descpage-YLZD.html
  14. Opposite for me, whether it’s green or brown anything in the north peaks my interest. Obviously has to do with where i live. I guess you can say the tournaments they fish on tours depict a certain image about smallmouth fishing which isn’t necessarily true. It’s not all deep water and fishing with your nose glued to electronics trying to drift your bait into the perfect spot. I can concede that is a bit boring for most people to watch. But the fights from the fish are awesome to watch. You can power fish too and fish dirt shallow for smallmouth too. I’m most excited for the Mississippi River event on the elite series, always a good mix of both smallmouth and largemouth.
  15. 3 fishing tomorrow and they all placed right next to each other 43, 44, 45. I haven’t been able to follow this tournament as closely as the last one. I like how close it is at the top, still anybody’s game! Ranked 23rd overall for drain the lake!!!
  16. Horrible for me again. Improved my percentile by 11 points but it’s still incredibly low: 46 73 39 18 55 But at least my DTL improved, despite having Tacoronte and Krieger with weak showings so far. Sitting at 99.7 percentile. Ranked 52nd! It’s down for me too but I was able to get a look earlier this evening
  17. Lots of talk about health and proper nutrition lately. Even if we are misguided or ignorant to the facts, it's great to get a conversation going. I lost 40 lbs two years ago but have since gained half of it back. Way harder this time than the first time. The biggest difference for me was cutting out fast food and soda, as well as late night snacking. Now, since my diet has improved but still isn't optimal, I need to focus on being more active.
  18. https://www.xzonelures.com/site/shop/detail/tungsten-arrowhead-weight Fixing a problem that doesn’t exist? Thoughts?
  19. Changed my bucket C pick from Cherry to Gussy, just have a feeling
  20. 12# YZH is thick. So is 10#. I’d look at something with .26 mm or .28 mm diameter.
  21. X Rap or Yo-Zuri 3DB. Hard to choose but both are solid
  22. Still waiting to catch one. I know they are present in my river but the areas I target make it unlikely I’ll catch one. There’s just so many other game species that are more prevalent that I feel like catching one would be like winning the lottery…one day
  23. A stick bait. Not something I do often at all but maybe I should. It’s kind of like using a fluke as a trailer; the jig is moving the trailer and the trailer is not overpowering the jig. It’s subtle.
