Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
Got a bunch of different species shore fishing this afternoon. This guy came on the first cast on a ned rig. Caught a smallie too but strict catch and quick release since the season is still closed.

Worm Rattles
I have never used beads on my texas rigs, besides plastic ones to protect my knot. I know brass and glass makes the “clacking” noise but do you have experience using tungsten and glass ? How will the sound compare to that of brass&glass if there is any sound at all. I realize I can look up this up or start my own thread but I decided to hijack this one instead, since we are talking about rattles and such. Anyone?

spinnerbait rod action
I've been interested in that model for a while now. I wanted to get a spinnerbait/chatterbait specific setup. Is it truly more parabolic than SC's fast actions? Also, that lure rating is kinda weird and since you say they feel more like mediums, do you think you can cast 1/4 oz effectively? I haven't been able to find too many owners of that model so I'd really appreciate your opinion

Versatile smallmouth lures
5 inch grub. I would say 4” but that would be hard to t-rig. The 5” can be texas rigged with a size 1 or 1/0 EWG, put on a jighead, a dropshot...options are endless.

Do you boil your monofilament line?
A quick google search shows that it is in fact a thing but I don’t think boiling water is actually used. Just very very hot water, but I wouldn’t recommend it anyways

Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
I finally got my first fish of 2020 last friday...which might sound crazy unless you're a northern guy. Caught a few eater sized walleye using a perch pattern swim jig and trailer. All were caught and released. It felt amazing to have a bent rod.

Disappointed, but.
When I switched to braid it drastically increased my casting distance. It flies off the reel so smoothly because of the small diameter of the line . Also what @Bass_Fishing_Socal said about the weight of the bait is true. The jighead and plastic are probably not exactly 3/8 oz but even if your ML rod is rated up to 3/8 oz I’ve always found that to be way too heavy for all the ML rigs I've ever owned. I don’t throw anything over 1/4 oz on my ML rods unless I’m vertical fishing. Even my mojo bass which is ML and rated 1/8-1/2oz struggles with anything over 5/16 oz. The first thing I’d do if I were you is switch to braid. It’s much more manageable on spinning gear than mono or fluoro anyways . And since you’re already interested in another rod, instead of buying a longer ML, maybe you should go with a 7 M/F and you’d be able to throw those heavier jig heads easier. So now you’ll have two different setups and can be more technique specific. Especially if the price point is 90$, sounds like you got a good deal.

Quarantine must be getting really miserable and boring.... sorry to hear about your daughter.

Stiffer Swim jig paddle trailers
x2, that perch color is great. If you’re looking for another option look at the Cane Thumper in green pumpkin red ghost. The 4.3” is good for those bigger and heavier swim jigs.

Stiffer Swim jig paddle trailers
I use the swammer but I’ve never tried it as a swim jig trailer. Do you find that it’s a stiffer bait? Because I think it has to be one of the softer paddle tails on the market. It does have a rocking motion when fished on a light jighead but I wonder if that holds true on a heavier gauge hook and a heavier swim jig head.

Need recommendations
I fish straight fluoro...Knowing myself I probably wouldn’t want braid to leader on micro guides. Still lots of guys fish braid on the avid x and have no issues but make sure you’re tying good, clean connection knots. As annoying as it is, it might be a good idea to learn the FG Knot or Blood Knot. If you haven’t taken the tags off yet you should probably test it out with the tags on and return it if it’s an issue. @norb also fishes the avid x and he might use braid to leader so hopefully he chimes in.

Baby bass color
I’d use watermelon and pearl tabs for sure. I like paddle tail swimbaits for swim jig trailers and I’d probably use an “Ayu” color. You can find that color in a lot of keitech style baits. The eco pro swing Shad has a “Shad ayu” which is very similar to keitechs and the plastic is also much more affordable.

wacky rigs
Now that you mention it, a wacky rigged Senko on a Carolina rig sounds deadly...but for me it’s always been weightless. That’s the whole point of a wacky rig. Slow fall and subtle action.

How would you rig these?
I only have EWGs at the moment, forgot to mention that. It can still be done but I think a round bend worm hook would better suit a bait like this, since it’s so thin.

Bassmaster had this Craw as a go to
I use the yum, zoom and other “cheap” brands but there’s no denying the SK soft plastics are something special. It’s true that just because something is cheap doesn’t mean it’s not good quality . But just because something is expensive, does not make it overpriced...besides, it’s our passion. Let people spend money the way they want.

CHEB Rig
That’s a good point about selling. Honestly I don’t know. The argument of ned rig vs jig worm is a pointless one, even though I have to admit they’re similar and maybe I’m just in denial. What I wanna know now is if the ned rig and jig worm are the same technique then what does that make the shaky head? Just another jig worm? ?

CHEB Rig
Let's not go there ? I've been seeing and participating in a lot of ned rigs threads recently

How would you rig these?
Just to give some context, I pretty much "inherited" all of my dad's tackle as he isn't as passionate about fishing as he used to be and he only goes out with me anyways. A lot of the lures are from the 90s and early 00s. I've had these in put away for a few years and today I was just doing some tackle organization as I have all this free time. All I know is they were made by Berkley quite a while ago and they had a whole "sqwormers" lineup. Anyone have experience or good memories with these baits? I've always been fascinated by bass fishing of the past as all the popular lures and techniques couldn't be easily documented on the internet like today. So, I really like the color (actually my favorite combination ?) and I wouldn't want these to go to waste. They're awkward to rig as they're quite long and really skinny. I have them pictured below next to a 3/0 EWG for reference. I tried texas rigging it and it just feels awkward since the bait is so thin and long. Anyways, how would you guys rig it? Cut em in half and use them as a finesse jig trailer? I think they'd look real good neko rigged too...let me know

CHEB Rig
Just a simple swing head? Already a thing in bass fishing. It's a popular choice in rocky lakes around here. It's one of the techniques I plan to work on this season.

Don't think I will!

That’s exactly one of my setups. Balances well and feels indestructible. Good choice!

Spinning rod for wacky rigging
I have the mojo bass 6’10 ML/XF and you’re right to go with the M. Even though the lure rating is 1/8-1/2 anything over 1/4 feels like too much for the rod unless you are vertical fishing. the 6’8 m/XF st Croixs are actually marketed towards wacky rigging and I think If you’re already interested in that then you should go for it. a MH is not ideal considering the hook you’ll be using. I’m assuming you’ll use the typical finesse wide gap and the diameters on those hooks are usually thin. You definitely won’t be bending out the hooks with a MH but there’s no need for the extra power IMO since the M has enough.

A choice of Jigs, decisions decisions...
You’ve got lots of great suggestions here but I just wanted to add this. If you want a jig with a heavy wire hook but with a finesse cut skirt, then the War Eagle Heavy Finesse Jigs are a good choice. They aren’t really truly finesse but I believe the skirt has 50 strands and they come in 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz. Also has a short shank 3/0 flipping hook so if you’re in heavy cover this may be better than a true finesse jig like a bitsy bug. Theres also the Santone Finesse jigs that fall into this category of “finesse but not actually finesse” and they make jigs as light 3/16 oz (if you feel that the 3/8 oz from war eagle is too heavy).

Swimbait eating Walleyes
Nice catches! I exclusively target walleye in the early season and I'm surprised to see you comment on how they fight so hard. They're known for not putting up that much of a battle and I would agree with the stereotype. Oh and I use ML or M spinning setups for them? The big girls give some decent headshakes but rarely ever pull drag. They're fun to catch nonetheless. Anyone else agree?
