  1. Id like em too if they were paying me ...
  2. Whatever works and keeps them pinned. Ive never used pure fiberglass.
  3. You praised these pretty highly on this thread so when my amazon order for shakey heads was delayed again today, I just decided to cancel and give the Dredger 20.5 a shot. I'll report on how she does. Thanks for the suggestion!
  4. Only time ive had anything remotely similar happen was with a bad AR bearing but the entire handle was turning as well as the spool. I think WRB is on the money. If its not slipping then its not engaging.
  5. I fish a 5.4:1 and would recommend that even if shallow. I feel it provides more feedback which helps me respond quicker when coming through cover. I'm sure part of it is perception but I find myself being able to cleanly come through weeds much better as I can feel when i make contact earlier (or stop earlier, it could be that too). While this won't make much of a difference with wider wobbling lures such as squarebills which already provide plenty of feedback, for lures that don't have such an aggressive wobble, its really helped me.
  6. Are you running braided line? If you haven't had line slip happen to you before, it can be hard to tell that its not the entire spool moving. Even if oil somehow did get into the drag washers, the pressure alone would prevent it from free spooling.
  7. Not sure if you're scanning them or not but often they will have a tag with full price and nothing to indicate a discount until you scan it at one of those self scan stations.
  8. Are you looking online or in-store at Academy? Ive noticed they frequently have their H2O rods on sale in-store only. I picked my Ethos HD up for $39 and change.
  9. Looking for suggestions on a budget < $150 deep crankbait rod. I have currently been using an older All Star ACL GT2 which i feel is practically perfect in every way ... except the length (6'6"). I am primarily throwing 3/4 - 1oz baits at around 20' max depth. All suggestions appreciated.
  10. ^ at that price point it would be hard to find a better combo
  11. Plastic worm gear? ... this is just a personal dislike as I haven't experienced or heard of issues with the k worm gear
  12. One of the changes I've seen with people around my age or younger (35 and below) is that home ownership is not an aspiration. Neither is retirement. If you take away what for some of us are the two greatest expenses, youre left with a good amount of disposable income. Add to this the social media era and you have guys who purchase products as much for the instagram pictures of them as for the fish they can catch ... if not more for the pictures.
  13. I don't think the Lews Custom Black Combo is a bad deal, but I do think you can do better for the money. If you like the Lews line of rods, the Carbon Fire rod at Dicks is a great rod for the money and comes in all actions depending on what you ultimately decide you want to use it for.
  14. What do you plan on primarily throwing with the new rod?
  15. Daiwa Fuego CT and H2O express Ethos HD rod SLX combo Ive heard is solid as well but can't speak from experience here
  16. All fish swam away quickly once released. The only thing that was unusual was the fight or lack thereof.
  17. I think we all draw the line somewhere. I remember a couple of years back i was fishing an old Daiwa that clicked on the retrieve. The fish were biting good while the anti reverse was on and it was clicky but whenver I turned it off they stopped. It was a good day of fishing but the audible anti reverse was a bit too much for me and so it hasnt been fished since. Id probably also throw trolling and live bait into the category of "things that catch fish but people don't do because they prefer using the equipment over catching fish".
  18. Rapala countdowns are another seldom spoken about option which may be closer in action to the deep diver than the lipless crank is. Also, thats rough, man ... what ya got for sale???
  19. Lews carbon fire rods have also been a pleasant surprise. I only have the heavy action one currently but have pondered getting the Med/mod to see if its a true med/mod as the lightning rod feels like more of a med light to me than a true medium.
  20. Med mod lightning rod is great H2O Express crankbaits are budget friendly and have worked well for me ...
  21. ^ For all the talk about outsourcing and how it hurts the economy, I just don't see it. Its a bunch of jobs not many will want. The higher paying jobs for many companies never left the US and so in all likelihood those positions wont be created even if manufacturing is moved back to the states. A bigger issue to me is that avg CEO compensation is 361 times avg employee compensation and the fact that you can't afford to buy a house on even double the minimum wage in most parts of the country.
  22. From what others have said above 30'+ is where you start worrying ... that sound ...
  23. Morning all, So after a successful day of throwing an H2O CRD+ crankbait, I decided to give it a go again but remembered that I was likely missing out on some distance based on how i set the brakes. So i turned 1 block off to leave 2 blocks and turned the dial all the way up. I was suprised to find out that it actually shortened my cast. So now I'm wondering how these brakes should be set. The best I could figure things out is the blocks determine how much braking and the dial determines when it begins to take effect. Anyhow, if 3 blocks and 1 on the dial gives me a longer cast than 2 blocks and max on the dial, what is the progression of braking in terms of numbers? (is 3-1 "freer" than 2-4?) Anyone with any experience similar or different to mine feel free to chime in.
  24. That sounds like a scammers dream ... having your credit card saved anywhere is a huge risk
