- Fishing plastics, why the long pause
Theyre probably just making sure they have enough footage to hit the 10 min mark on YouTube so that they can make that money. Seriously though a lot of those videos are edited and you're not seeing one continuous sequence from cast to catch.- Fishing hot...real hot
Temps had been climbing here in Austin and I had been getting out early. At the lake by 5:45 and headed home by about 8:30. Temps are more likely to affect us than the fish.- Tested out my SLX XT tonight
Y'all make me want to try an SLX XT even though lately I've been disappointed by Shimano's more recent <$200 offerings.- What is wrong with my deep crank setup? What did I do?
^ test with a different bait ... assuming you tested another 6XD.- Reel Handle End Play (clack clack noise)....
Did you take it apart before? Because there is no real reason those washers should move- What to wear fishing in hot weather
Jorts- For the Bank fisherman: What "pushes" your buttons while fishing?
Dont worry, "this too shall pass". Let them have a couple days/weeks of getting skunked/weak catches and things will be back to normal. I will say though I have been lucky in that although theres certainly more people on the water there isnt necessarily much increased fishing pressure here.- For the Bank fisherman: What "pushes" your buttons while fishing?
Bank fishing or not, trash is the worst. I had to scoop up a couple of empty Googan baits packages this morning. Im pretty sure the same guy left a couple of crankbaits in trees because I didn't see them yesterday morning. I was only able to get one of them.- Crankbait books
- Water inside reels
In my experience, it usually comes down to the quality of the bearings. Cheap reels with chrome bearings will rust quickly if dunked. Stainless steel bearings will hold up a bit better. Unless the bearings themselves are sealed, I cant see reel seals offering much protection from dunking.- Shimano SLX - Stiff out of the Box
In my experience what slows reels down is usually the pinion bearing. I would definitely clean the gears and add grease. Cal's is my preference but it is a thicker grease.- Shimano SLX - Stiff out of the Box
i hope you didnt oil the gears themselves. Those should be coated with a quality grease.- Abu Garcia promax 3 or Daiwa Fuego CT
Get you one of those weird olive colored Australian Fuego CTs- Abu Garcia promax 3 or Daiwa Fuego CT
Im sure ill take some flak for this but after having fished both for several months now, I'd take a Fuego CT over my Curado K. It may not be as smooth but i prefer the overall feel of it. I also feel the braking system is a better match to how I cast, especially after flushing bearings.- A Slap in the Face
Whoever "we" is needs to reach out to the HOA or whoever owns those lakes and work with them to establish limits.- Funny Random Encounters
Was it this dude???- Spinning reel not reeling in correctly
Only thing I can think of is the oscillating slide coming off the oscillating gear. Make sure that its riding on it (on the pin) and not just sliding over the top.- Need a new reel.
Bass pro had this for under $100???- “ G Loomis NRX” for $125 but no sticker??
Oh yes the "NR" not-real series. These are extremely popular. Ask him about his source for cork. I have some that I could sell him that looks better than what hes using ... i just have to take it off the old lightning rods.- Lure weight on rods, few questions
- How much outside the recommended range would you go? In my experience, the upper end of the rod tends to be exaggerated. I wouldn't go heavier than 1oz. - Would you go much lower than the 3/8? As low as the reel and an educated thumb will let me. Of course, there comes a point where its just more practical to use spinning gear. - What are some pros/cons to going slightly outside the recommended? Cons for too light on the baitcaster would be backlashes, on the spinning reels - line twist Pros for too light ... more finesse? Cons for too heavy on the baitcaster would be backlashes, on the spinning reel I imagine the rod would be the limitation Pros for too heavy ... fish deeper or maybe the ability to get into thicker stuff ... but then you might be underpowered with the rod.- Line for buzzbaits
straight 15lb YZH is what Im using ... and always a cavitron- Graphite frame reels over $100
Same reason the CG80 costs as much as the much better Fuego CT ... profit margin- Why...?
Might have more to do with the lb test of the line than the weight of the lure? I know I wouldn't throw an 1/8 oz "true" texas rig (free running weight) with line heavier than 8lb test and likely 6lb or lower. If the weight was pegged then I might go baitcaster depending on the weight of the plastic and where I was throwing it. Also keep in mind whats on the end of those 1/8 oz weights. A texas rig may have a craw weighing 3/8 oz or more while a shakey head probably has a much lighter squirrel tail or trick worm.- Favorite lure for your favorite techniques
Sometimes it just happens that way. About 10 years ago, a BPS ad ran in Bassmaster magazine for 5 lures for $5. I remember when i received the lures with their chrome hooks i thought they were garbage. One day out fishing I decided to give the lipless a shot. The white bass where just smashing that yellow black lipless crankbait and I probably caught a good 20 or so fish in less than 2 hours. I eventually lost it and threw every other lure i had out there but couldn't manage even 1 more fish. - Fishing plastics, why the long pause
