  1. I have the Academy H2O express version of this https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/wild-river®-tackle-tek™-nomad-mossy-oak-camo-lighted-fishing-backpack#repChildCatid=3214010 which apparently they dont make anymore. I picked it up for about $50 but once you get up to about 6 - 3600s you start to question your decision making ability. If you are using the bag to transport tackle to an area, I highly recommend a tackle bag vs backpack. This is what im currently using. https://www.planomolding.com/catalog/product/view/id/1468/s/a-series-2-0-duffel-bag/category/348/ If you plan on wearing the bag while fishing then backpack 100%
  2. I used a regular old rod carrying bag, the military green kind you find everywhere. No lures attached was the only way I could make it work. Luckily knots dont take all that long.
  3. The length of the knobs will be what complicates things. If the knobs are too short you can shim them but if they're too long youre out of luck. 4 x 7 x 2.5 is pretty much universal for the handle bearings so you likely wont have an issue with inner diameter
  4. Its a hump that comes up to about 15 - 17' from about 20 - 22' Thanks for the details on your setup.
  5. Everyone above pretty much said it. Interchangeable, but I will add that it comes down to preference. Personally I use Cal's on baitcasters but prefer a "lighter" feel on my spinning reels and opt for Yamalube on those. I imagine like some reel grease manufacturers the spinning grease is on the lighter side.
  6. I appreciate everyones advice. Ive got a pack of hooks and some drop shot weights coming my way so we can put these suggestions to use. I really want to make sure im doing everything possible to probe this particular spot before giving up. I just have a feeling there should be fish there (then again it wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong ?).
  7. With a heavier bait, can you get it to tighten? So that it stops from falling completely? It could just be excess grease getting on the spool shaft. If you pull the cap off completely does the issue persist?
  8. Question 1 - Bait Selection The past few days I have been targeting a deep point with a drop shot. I am not the most experienced drop shotter so I am sure I have missed some strikes and may possibly be misinterpreting some cover as strikes as well. With that said, I have landed only one fish but I believe ive had at least a dozen strikes. So moving on to our question, today after probing the depth, I decided to go shallow to just check the action of the lure. While checking, something interesting happened. A tiny bass (no more than 5") took and immediately spit the bait. Now I'm sure that this happens more frequently than we know (yes ive seen the Glen Lau videos), but I was wondering if a larger bait would make it easier to sense a strike. For example if fishing with say a 6" worm will a fish give it 2 slurps in vs 1? The lure I have been using currently is a 1.5" shad assassin. Anyhow any suggestions are appreciated. Question 2 - Action/Movement When fishing the drop shot, are you fishing it on a slack line? semi slack? taught?
  9. 110 @ 9AM?? ... man What was the high that day?
  10. He who smelt it dealt it. Jk it could also be related to the water they are in and whats decomposing down there? Just a thought.
  11. Starting out on a super cheap spinning reel basically forced me into it. I mean you could turn the handle but it was so much effort it made it feel like things were gonna break.
  12. Whats the lure in question? Has BPS made foam bodied lures?
  13. The lake I primarily fish is a quarry. The two things that have yielded the best results are casting to the breakline as @RoLo suggested and locating deep hard bottoms with a carolina rig and following up with a drop shot. I would suggest throwing squarebills and lipless cranks towards the drop off and retrieving (be prepared to lose baits). At night time split shot trick worms have typically been excellent.
  14. Looking for advice on a good combo for a toddler (3 yr old). Is it better to go with a Snoopy combo or something he can grow into? He went out with me this morning and reeled his first fish in ... been crying to go back all day.
  15. Does it do this without a lure attached too?
  16. I wonder why Daiwa is moving from Magforce Z ... it cant be more expensive than that darn T Wing
  17. I dont know why my mind went to shock. I have one of those as well and although the cork-like grip feels like its gonna fall apart the rod itself feels great. I also kind of like the feel of the cork I just wish I had more confidence in it. I saw a couple torn up pretty bad in-store when I was buying mine.
  18. Lews Carbon Fires. They have smaller guides ... not quite micro but they really help with casting. Do they still have a clear reel seat?
  19. you do that .. in my experience its usually a 300 lb big ol woman
  20. How are you holding the reel? Most of my casting is side casts and ive never had this issue. I can see accidentally moving it but its hard to believe momentum alone would move the brake dial. Are you hearing it click when it moves?
  21. I dont mind helping put other people on some fish ... but dont creep around anything! A few months ago a guy came up to me and asked what I was using. I taught him how to tie a Palomar and rig a simple split shot rig. I also moved so he could fish my spot. He caught a 5lber shortly after and was excited as can be. He released it so I was glad to help him have that experience.
  22. Unsolicited advice ... not sure if its the same for everyone else but I dont like someone walking up to me and giving me advice about where to throw, what to throw, etc. I dont really care if youve been catching them on live worms
  23. better clear that browsing history ...
  24. Im sure youll get a ton of different opinions here but my experience has been that lately Shimano quality (at least in the sub $200 reels) has gone downhill. I say this based on the fact that after purchasing a Citica I, Curado K, and several Fuego CTs, if I had to do it all over again I would probably go Fuego CT all the way. My evaluation is very subjective and quite frankly simply based on how the reels feel to me. As far as light baits the Tat CT is a Fuego CT + T Wing and I feel like a comfortable minimum weight for me with that reel is about a 1/4 oz. I can go lighter but at about a 1/4 oz I'm happy with the distance I can get. With that said there have been several reports of the regular SLXs getting rough feeling but Ive heard good things about the XT. The only complaint with the XT that people seem to have is the SVS Infinity system which can take some getting used to.
