Big Bass: topwater, crank baits or soft plastics?
it's all dependent on what body of water you are on. my pb 11.3 came on a booyah poppin pad crasher on chickamauga, but i could throw a frog until my arm falls off on some of the other lakes around here and never get a sniff. I do feel like the majority of the 7+ lb fish that i've caught are striking the bait more out of reaction than feeding. I caught a 6.9 two weeks ago on a 6 inch finesse worm. Right place right time is most important thing here

that sounds like a loudon confidence problem lol i went to melton hill for a few hours yesterday afternoon and sadly that lake is worse than loudon. You throw those big TRD's out there yet? 75+ fish days on those, not a whole lot of sitting around getting bored over the last couple of weeks

They are great fellas, got out for a few hours yesterday afternoon. They are 1/2 oz and sling a mile. Action is really solid, super wide wobble. Seems like the faster you crank it the wider the wobble gets.

Where should my buddies and I go for a week?
August is a very tough month on any of the Tennessee river lakes, you can still catch some good ones on chik punching mats but that's going to be a really hard bite to learn in 3 or 4 days. It's going to be hot and heavy anywhere you come down south man

Strike King plastics color- NOT green pumpkin
hard candy & PLUM in the big rage cut-r. throw on a 1/2oz shaky head. they do work!

ordered a few of these yesterday and should be here by next week. Have you guys seen these? Not promoting but i think it is a really cool concept, kinda reminds me of a scatter rap and a chatterbait at the same time? What do you guys think? https://6thsensefishing.com/collections/axis-metal-2-0

Braid to leader guy trying straight floro, couple questions
assassin is quality line, best bang for buck IMO. It's what i use on all of my baitcasters except for topwater & punching outfit. 12 lb is the right size for your jerkbait, dont throw topwater on fluorocarbon it sinks and will mess the action up, stick to your braid to leader or straight braid there. Just be prepared to have to respool more often than once every 3 years because it will go bad. If you run your spool under hot water for 30 seconds after you put the line on it will take out all of the memory and be good to go. your baits that sink & reaction baits will all fish better.

Coping with the crowds this year
yeah i spend most of my time on norris there around the point 19 area--boat traffic isnt quite as bad back in cove creek if you want to give it a try. I'm pretty much done with that lake until october when we can catch smallies again lol

cherokee handles the waves so much better than norris does. norris is too narrow for that many giant boats

Bait and Line Selection for Dock Fishing
fluorocarbon will definitely cut down on your line breaks, sharp metal will slice through that braid like butter with a little tension on it. kind of different here but i like to throw a 3/8 green pumpkin jig with an electric shad rage swimmer, flip to the back of the slip and essentially tight line it back to the boat. They'll hammer it on the fall. Neko rig a 5 inch senko with a 1/16 nail weight and tight line it back to the boat, pop it occasionally. Something else i like to do is jig a spoon off the edge of the docks. not a lot of folks do that but i have had some pretty awesome days on the ol spoon so i wouldnt count it out.

Coping with the crowds this year
yeah buddy. everybody and their brother has bought a boat here in knoxville. I was on Norris last saturday and that place is a freakin zoo man. Best bet is to try to go way up river on some of the lakes to get away from the wake boats, or the santa maria if you are on loudon lol

Eatin' a little humble pie--difference between pond and reservoir fishing
download the navionics app on your phone, its really good and very easy to use. I used it prior to buying navionics chips for my finders

One fishing line... FOREVER
after you put the FC on your reel take the spool off and run it under hot water in the sink for about 30-45 seconds. Will fix your line twists and jumping off the spool

When color didn't matter
i think color makes a bigger difference in fishing something that sinks opposed to cranking something in. I know a few of the lakes around here green pumpkin w red flake will outfish regular green pumpkin 4-1. chart/black, chart/blue, sexy shad, & red are really the only important colors for crankbaits IMO

$64,000 Question ~
I ask this same question everytime I go to norris. I think the answer is suspended in the channel in 175 ft of water chasing alewives. Impossible to catch lol

Eatin' a little humble pie--difference between pond and reservoir fishing
fish your first arrival ledges right now then in about a month move on out to your main river ledges. Carolina rig an ol' monster with about a 2 foot leader. all of the ledges on that lake have a prime casting angle, if you don't line up and drag it the right way you may never get bit. also not sure about water levels out there but here on the eastern half of the tennessee river we are still catching a lot of shallow fish due to high water levels. shaky head around docks should always produce a few

Fluorocarbon line for flipping
i use 15lb sunline fc assassin on nearly every baitcaster in my boat other than jerkbait and top water setup. Its great. However don't waste your time or money on sunline flippin FC, it is JUNK

Missing a fish

Upgrading finesse set up, rod or reel first?
john the pfleuger president is a really good reel, no need to change anything with that. I have a couple and a few pfleuger supremes and they all work great. I would recommend buying another 2500 one and throwing it on a 6'8 medium fast st croix mojo...should be out the door with that combo wherever you go for 185 bucks or so

Yum Dingers
always stock up on tons of these when i get my bass pro gift cards at christmas. I prefer to throw them because of the hook slit on the egg sack. Very easy to make a shaky head or texas rig weedless with that little slot. soft stick baits are going to rip up regardless of what brand you buy
