Ah i don't know how i missed out on this post. Always have a ned on my front deck, pretty much all i throw are the 1/5 oz nedlockz. Given the majority of the time I am fishing the ned in 20-30' with some wind and you'll never find bottom. I agree with @punch on his style, it is by far the most effective way in my local waters. Now if you are around some brush or shallow water, i think downsizing to the 1/10th is fair to help reduce hang ups. If you are worried about losing Neds you should consider throwing something else, it's just part of the game.

very sad. Wonder if the fog was bad? I just don't understand why you'd be that close. Flippin jigs on flooded muddy water man! I help with a couple high school teams in the area and always try to teach the kids to get comfortable reeling with their left hand if they are able. So much easier not having to switch hands every flip. Left handed stuff is harder to find, but it's usually a few bucks cheaper from what i've noticed.

same down here in east tennessee! high muddy water means its flip:30 and time to get your black n blue on! i stroke football head jigs quite a bit, depending on the structure you are fishing it can make all the difference in the world. I can think of several times on cherokee(especially in the fall) you would pop it 3-5 feet over a big boulder and it would never touch down

have a few dobyns in my jig box & always one tied on. Love these jigs, can pull them through anything! great line tie location as well

Because the fish here are heavily pressured. FC is less visible in clear water situations. FC is more sensitive and abrasive resistant. Braid is easier to manage on a spinning reel. I feel like fluorocarbon is less visible, more sensitive, and more durable which is what I am looking for while finesse fishing. The only time I use straight braid are in situations like the picture below. I would gladly partake in a finesse numbers game on a clear lake with one person using direct braid while the other using a fc leader. The person with the leader will outfish the direct line tie 4:1 EASILY

I feel like we are having two different conversations here. I was referring tying braid to a fluorocarbon leader vs straight braid to the lure. I never tie mono as a leader, however I do have it stringed up on a couple spinning reels to throw Shad raps and such. My point was do not tie straight braid to your lure if visibility is >2ft. I absolutely agree to tie mono straight to your lure leaderless

we will agree to disagree. They will perform equally, but they do not produce results equally. Maybe it's just east TN where everyone i know has a bass boat and fishes. I have no problem detecting strikes on any of the line, and typically fish them on slack line. It's a visual matter. If i can see the line in the water beside the boat, you can darn well bet the fish can see it. I'm yet to see a pro throw 65 lb braid on any of the clear lakes in this area

8xd plus i use a 6:2:1 old curado cu-200. ive started using at least 7:1 on my squarebills, it's easier to reel it down then sweep it along the rocks as opposed to constant cranking. suspending plugs like the old xcalibur/rebel shad-r i always use at least a 7:1 to catch up because they will hit on the pause a fair amount of the time

I completely disagree with everything about fish not being line shy. I have taken guys out before using the exact same shaky head & worm, one tied directly to braid, the other to a FC leader and the leader setup outfished the direct braid tie 4:1. I've tried this 3-4 times and it is always the same result.
