  1. matt the most important thing here is not the weight of the senko or the rig you are putting it on, the most imporant aspect of what rod you are going to use is what hook are you using? Senko will skip fine on a spinning reel or baitcaster but you are going to break off a bunch on hooksets or lose fish when the hook doesnt drive home. I may know one or 2 people who throw a wacky rigged senko on a baitcaster, accurate skipping is just so much easier on a spinning reel, if your worm comes off the hook mid rig your baitcaster is going to explode and that reel is pretty much done for the day. If you are using a lightwire hook you need to have it on a spinning reel, if you are using a heavy wire hook(shaky head ewg/mag) throw that sucker on a baitcaster and cross their eyes. I regularly have a senko tied on 3 different outfits 5inch senko or dinger on a mag/ewg shaky head(mh fast 7'0 13 fate black) 4 inch senko or dinger on a small shaky head--buckeye spot remover(medium fast 7'0 lews mach spinning) 5 inch senko or dinger wacky rigged with a 3/16 weighted hook(medium fast 6'8 allstar with a spinning)
  2. no mine hasnt jumped around, thats very strange--i found my problem i guess a wire had somehow dislodged just a bit from wavejumping over the weekend. The only time i had issues with the arrow was the first time i put it in the water and had not yet calibrated the bow mount offset. I would definitely give them a call, no reason a 3k unit should have ANY issues
  3. i havent seen it on any shows but i definitely believe it's a real thing. depends if im in a tourney or not but ill usually troll 35-40 yards of off my spot and throw them back
  4. last couple weeks, managed to win a little bit of money in the process
  5. Ned will work on Kentucky lake but the buckeye lures EWG shaky head in 1/2 oz will do very well out there on the ledges. I throw a lot of heavy shaky heads in 20+ FOW and get quite a few bites, reason being most people throw the ol ball and chain around here and that little different look will trigger some strikes. I fish the ned in 20+FOW on several lakes in the area(Norris, Cherokee, Douglas) but they are all pretty clear deep tributary lakes. The TN river system lakes like kentucky lake the ned is just too dang hangy on a lot of them and has been known to bring out my inner rageaholic lol
  6. billy wheat rip rap adventures--great guy and will put you on some studs
  7. i've fished a ton of tournaments and never once had a person suggest to pee in a bottle. I believe i would have to ask them to hold it for me if they made this a suggestion, ridiculous lol
  8. Wanted to hear a few opinions on this. Heard mixed reviews but from my experience it seems fairly true that bass will typically not spawn around and they are much harder to catch.. If you are seeing a bunch of gar & carp in an area do you still fish it or crank up and go somewhere else? Don't get me wrong i've still caught some bass in these areas but year over year it seems like some of these areas become more infested with carp and gar and the spots become significantly less productive
  9. i throw the shaky head when i need to be weedless, typically ned is reserved when i'm fishing for smallmouth or a rocky bottom lake. Ned is my go-to when downsizing, if i'm throwing bigger worms or creatures i bust out the shakyhead
  10. We kill them after dark on clear water mountain lakes here in east tn & western north carolina. Some of the best nights i've had(especially growing up) were throwing jitterbugs all night long. Frog with white belly, solid black, coach dog, perch, and fire tiger(custom one where the orange goes up to the side of the bait) have always been my go tos
  11. i can confirm this theory with smallmouth. They definitely have some Paul Revere in them after you lose one. Not sure if they go back to the school and release some kind of pheromones or what, but typically if i lose one in a school they go down to let everyone else know the cops are here and the parties over
  12. check out booyah pad poppers, caught a ton of pigs on chickamauga with them
  13. Did you do the bow mount offset calibration? May want to do it again just for good measure. Mine has been doing something weird here lately too that i'm not 100% what the problem is yet but I'll be getting on the phone with lowrance too. It'll kinda make a little stutter noise then the prop won't go when i hit the accelerator. I have to reset it then it works completely fine, until it decides to do it again. Never actually loses power as the unit is still on and the arrow moves, just loses power to the prop
  14. i caught a couple smallmouth last year on cherokee throwing 1/5 oz in 57 ft of water lol. i regularly fish it in 25 ft
  15. buddy i bet i have 200 jitterbugs in the garage that were given to me when my pappaw passed, most are the 5/8ths and i'd say half of them are the broken back models
  16. Reviving this thread, going to go out and do some jitterbug fishing tomorrow night. Growing up i usually only had success doing this on the clear mountain lakes(Hiwassee, Fontana, Chilhowee, etc) but I've had one of those strange feelings that they will get destroyed on Norris(very clear, deep lake, tons of rock). My question is, do you guys throw these things on baitcasters? I learned about this technique from my pappaw about 25 years ago and don't think i've ever thrown one on a baitcaster--15 lb mono on a MH moderate action should be the ticket?
  17. for another week--im very sad that june 1 is the annual smallie season shutdown. Just about all the lakes around here go to maximum one keeper and minimum of 18' or 20' inches.. along with that any potential tournament winnings i could run into go down the tube lol
  18. I literally do not think you can buy a boat at just about any dealership here in Knoxville right now. Better get there at 530 and off the water by 12 if you're just going for fun. I fished a tournament a couple weeks ago, ran 14 miles down lake to hopefully fish ONE of my 12 spots or so down there. Not only could i not pull onto a single one of those, about half of them had more than one boat there. Not to mention if you catch a fish you best be quiet and hold it down or the peanut gallery will be right on top of you. I would say it's time to swap to only fishing at night but there has been a crazy amount of boats running on the lakes here at night lately too, heard several jetskis out the other night but never could see them.
  19. ned rig or shaky head. You can throw any soft plastic you choose on a shaky head so as far as versatility goes i don't know that there is a more versatile option
  20. yes. sometimes if you add a blade or little skirt to the end on your neko it can make all the difference in the world
  21. Will be a very sad day indeed
  22. looks like a rapala bx brat How similar does that cabelas plug run to a spro little john? Looks very similar
  23. 10lb powerpro to 8 or 10lb pline shinsei leader. not sure why you would ever use straight braid unless you are punching, throwing a frog, or visibility is less than 2 ft(which at that point im probably throwing something louder with more vibration than a ned rig anyways). Visibility is a thing, and i'd argue until im blue in the face about it
  24. Probably not what you want to hear, but i would never go to a pond without a wacky rigged or neko rigged senko on one of my couple rods. Pond fish love senkos & pressured fish will still eat a senko. slow way down
  25. on your texas rig & shaky heads texpose the hooks, they become virtually weedless. The ned rig is very hangy, you can try to throw a little lighter weight but with the exposed hook its going to happen. What style of jig are you throwing? throw an arkie jig rather than a flippin jig. I know what the "experts" say when flipping brush but an arkie jig will get up and down through the brush better than a flippin jig. Typical flippin jig aren't really made to be fished all the way back to the boat(or bank) for that matter, they are designed to pitch in, pop a couple times, reel in and flip to another piece of cover. Sounds like you recognized a couple of the snags were your fault laying into a couple tree pounders, it happens to all of us my man. I've caught many a limb brim in my day
