  1. I also have the Alijoz, it's fine but I don't think I would really recommend it for various reasons.
  2. Rods aren't 9', 10', 11', 12'+ because they wouldn't fit in our rod lockers, duh. LoL ?
  3. Weed whacker or weed whip.
  4. I avoid any water that has shore access on free fishing weekend. And I spend the next couple weeks cleaning up after those heathens. Would love to be some sort of law enforcement person for the weekend. I'd set some records with litter citations.
  5. Time to ditch that braid! If a different spool has the same behavior, it's likely the rod and/or reel.
  6. Do you have your wiring diagram?
  7. Fluke on the second run. Or go ham with an A-Rig.
  8. FC breaks down over time. I've heard that UV rays do it but don't know and don't care. I just know that it does
  9. I use them when I want to be on the surface but don't want to cover much area.
  10. Respool FC when it runs out or in the spring prep, whichever occurs first. Respool braid when it runs out or every third spring, whichever occurs first. Don't use mono so no replacement schedule there.
  11. I never recommend having the knot enter the reel. Not in any meaningful way.
  12. Weightless fluke on a lightwire offset hook.
  13. Those are my preferred low action finesse jig trailers.
  14. If I just casually roll up on a spot, I'm treated by watching a lot of the bass just swim away. LoL
  15. I'm fishing in gin a lot of the time. I get why this would be totally irrelevant to you though. ?
  16. 20 is fine. It's not about the distance, it's about the accuracy.
  17. I just guess what I need by eyeballing it. Depending on the trailer and the type of cover, the jig weight needed fluctuates too much. If I am not getting what I wanted as far as performance, I tie a heavier/lighter one on. Last spring I went through and weighed all the jigs and separated them by weight. By the end of midsummer they were all mixed up again anyway. Not worth my time to do again.
  18. A $0.50 rubber table leg cap works too!
  19. First keeper on a Fishmas bait!
  20. Other than picking your favorite technique that you don't already have a combo for, you basically have your bases covered. It would just be upgrades from here. You could buy a kayak tomorrow and sell the job boat later. ? This would open up the world of kayak rods....
  21. Went fishing today in a remote forest lake and there was a handful of trucks, and people mingling about. So I paddled across that lake, went up a tiny little creek and portaged over a big pile of debris to access a 'secret' lake. Not a soul on that lake other me and the wife for six hours. It was glorious. And the jig bite was on too!
  22. I don't fish bladed jigs much, all I catch is pike with them, lol. If I'm using actual swim jigs instead of just swimming a random jig, I like both the Freak and Deposit by 2K Jigs. Siebert makes some good ones too but the hooks aren't as stout as I'd like for heavy cover applications. I tie my own jigs, so mostly I just grab one out of the box with the colors I want, appropriate weight, and the right hook. I don't even know what most of the heads are called officially.
  23. I didn't notice any skipping difference between this and the Exoswim or Rage Craw trailers I usually use.
  24. So I was out in the kayak a couple hours ago, having a great day jig fishing with the first custom rod I built myself. Hadn't actually caught fish on it before today. It was an MHX kit rod discounted for the holidays. It looks like crap because I had no idea what I was doing. However, looks aside, I would put it up against my much more expensive off the shelf jig rod any day. And the rods I have built since totally blow that one out of the water in both looks and performance. Long story short, you aren't sacrificing performance by going custom. Honestly, it's probably the other way around most of the time. I'm probably never buying another off the shelf rod ever again.
