  1. The Berkley Series One is a very underrated spinning rod, I have a few and love them. For the 7-9 Shad rap I use a Dobyns Serria 701SF with a Shimano Stradic CI4+ with 10lb Suffix 832 and Copolymer leader. If money is not an issue, the Shimano Expride A Spinning Rod 6'10" Med Lt is a winner for that lure as well.
  2. The rod is excellent for 1/2oz blade baits. Sensitivity is great, the tip is just right for setting the hook with trebles and the backbone/ medium action is just right for keeping those fish buttoned up.
  3. I just received the Tackle trap reel this week, but I have fished with a 4:9:1 Diawa Lexa 100 for some time now and I have had no issues with fish running to the boat with it, but I don't like the 4:9 for 3/4oz cranks or less, with the 3/4oz or less I like 5:5:1, Shimano makes the Stile SS which is super lightweight and very comfortable to grip, I wish the line capacity was greater but if your throwing braid there is no issue, and as long as you don't go higher than 10lb flouro the reel is amazing.
  4. The Lews bb1 5:1 is a great deep cranking reel, the Diawa 4:9:1 tackle trap special is excellent for deep divers as well, I find that 4:9:1 ratio excels with crankbaits that are 1oz or heavier.
  5. I would do the Fury , I have a 703 which I use for heavy blades and 1/2 oz jigs, I find its a great value for the money.
  6. I picked up the SLX 71 MGL from japan, I used it a few times and found the curado 71to be a better reel.
  7. I had the same experience when I contacted them in California in regards to a Shimano Engetsu BB.
  8. I picked up an SLX 71 and winded up selling it, the Curado 71 is a better reel in my opinion.
  9. I just got mine today as well, Suzuki's assessment of the reel is spot on.
  10. Shimano Expride A Casting Rod 7'2" Med Lt+ Fast 7-14lb 1/8-5/8oz Versus/Or Zodias Casting 7'2 Medium Moderate Fast 10-20lb 1/4-3/4oz Question for everyone, but especially for people who have used these two rods. I'm looking to use it for blade baits such as 1/2-3/4oz Heddon sonars, BPS Lazer blade,Binsky,Silver Buddy,Wordens Showdown and similar blades etc. I currently use a Dobyns Champion 702c and a Dobyns Champion Extreme 742c for throwing blades in water from 12-40 feet deep, both rods are rated to 3/16-5/8oz and they handle the 1/2oz-3/4oz blades pretty well, with the 742 being better the deeper I go , I am using 7:1 or 8:1 scorpion with 15lb 832 braid and a 12lb copolymer leader. My question for those who have experience with these two rods or just one of them. Does the Expride ML+ have enough backbone for what I am looking to do, I am looking for the soft tip to keep the trebles in but I also want decent backbone to set the hook and keep the fish on. I assume the Zodias fits the build, but from what I hear the Expride is worth the extra money for the sensitivity, but that ML rating has me concerned the rod may be too weak. Any input or advice is appreciated.
  11. I have a CI 4 2500 on a Dobyns Champion 701 SF and am very happy with it, super sensitive and enough backbone to handle larger fish.
  12. From what I can find on the internet and some you tube videos, both rods are composites but the new F6 is more graphite and less glass. I am a deep cranking enthusiast, and have used all graphite and composite rods for this technique, from my experiences once I went all graphite , I could never go back to any glass in the rod. I currently use the Dobyns Champion 764cb,765,cb and the 805cb and find them to be outstanding rods for deep cranking. I also use the older Loomis green GLX crankbait 957 CBR and absolutely love it for a DD 22 or a megabass deep six. With all that being said, if I had to try a composite rod for deep cranking again,I would consider the the Launcher F6. Good luck and let us know which you went with and how you like it.
  13. I'm a Dobyns fan as well, I know they are a lower price point but I have a couple of Shimano Zodias rods that I really like. Based on my experiences with the Zodias I am going to pick up an Expride soon, it's just I need fishing rods, like I need a hole in my head.
  14. Just picked it up in 4:9:1, thanks.
  15. Dobyns Champion 701SF with a Stradic 2500 Ci 4+ with 10lb 832 with a copolymer leader.
  16. Tough call , grew up in the Bronx and now live in Queens so I really cannot pick between the two.
  17. If you are not going more than 1/2 oz I would go with the 734, anything close to an ounce or more would warrant a 5 power in my opinion.
  18. Update, the Caenan spool fit. Thanks for all the advice everyone.
  19. Dobyns Champion 702SF with a Stradic Ci 4 2500 =Winner
  20. + 1 on the Dobyns Colt. Wait until TW does 15% off sale to get it closer to your price range.
  21. Thanks for the welcome everybody.
  22. I have used them and I really like how it moves as you reel it in, not too much resistance for it size , and it doesn't wear you out quickly . I throw it on Dobyns 805 CB paired with a Lews BB1 5:1 and 10lb flouro. The 805 is ok for it, but I feel like an 806 CB may be a better choice specifically for a crankbait of this size.
  23. I had an issue with the brake dial being too tight on the SLX 71,and the reel has a wider frame than the Curado 70/71 which made it uncomfortable to grip if your are fishing it for more than a few hours. The Curado frame is by far more ergonomic. I winded up selling the slx 71.
  24. I have the older green BPS extremes, picked them up on sale for $60 bucks when they were getting discontinued, they are light , sensitive and hold up well.
  25. Will do, thanks for input everyone.
