Yeah that will tell me alot...weight range on a rod is about as accurate as power ratings. A medium heavy Abu Garcia is a heavy...a medium heavy Falcon is a medium. thanks for the feedback. Is the braid ok or should I go braid to leader?

I've never really thrown swimbaits but wanted to give them a try this spring. I saw the savage gear had good reviews at a good price so decided to start there. Anybody have experience with the 5 inch model? What gear should I throw these on? They weigh 1.25oz so is my frog rod with 50lb braid suitable?

I carry one sometimes when I bankfish rip rap for walleye and sauger...I don't take chances when dinner is on the line! Otherwise no.

I'm gonna pick up a pack in dark melon orange. I'm gonna use a Berkley half head 1/8oz. They are a mushroom head designed for Ned rigs and they have a 1/0 hook...should work good.

How did you rig them?

Looking back over things I had ice out here last year around March 6th...that's 37 days from now. It looked like that may happen again until recently...next few weeks look very cold. Guess only time will tell.

White is a fantastic color for me for certain baits. Spinnerbaits I prefer white or a shad pattern...swim jigs and bladed jigs I prefer bluegill colors. Flukes I prefer white or shads over gill colors. As mentioned above a white twister tail is one of the fish catchingest things you could ever throw. Also a bone (kind of a yellowish off white) jerk bait or popper can be extremely effective at times.

I would say 3 fish an hour if they are decent 5 an hour if they are dinks would be goid for me. My best day last year was 25 in 3 hours but the size was 2 and under. My 2nd best day was 15 in 3 hours but 12 were 3-5lbs. Ill take the second day.

Ill go even further and say size potential aids in this as well. For instance I've got a lake 35 miles from my house where a biggun is 3lbs...I'm alot less likely to grind as long there as the county park pond close to me that has produced several 6-8 lb slaunches the past few years.

I think its a mental thing...you hear the words hard bait and think its supposed to hold up so when they don't it ticks a guy off.

Yeah I don't get it. You'd think that a company that's been around 85 years specializing in balsa baits should have it figured out by now.

I've heard this from a few people but I've got a few with no issues so far. 1 has probably a dozen fish 1 of which was a pike plus I've been grinding it thru rock and its still going.

I consider a wake bait a top water because the fish will almost always be looking up at it. You can get crazy with color like anything else but for me I've simplified my top water game and think all i really need is white and black.

I was considering the DTs and the slims for ice out but maybe ill stick to the frittsides..I haven't had durability issues with those.

I've never had bad experiences with Rapala durability. But that's because the only balsa bait of there's I've thrown is the shallow shad rap and I usually snag and lose them before they can break!

I heard its a copy of an old strike pro crank bait that came out before 6th sense was even a company. I heard Todd Castledine who is a Texas pro helped design the hybrid hunter based off that old strike pro bait. I'm pretty sure that 6th sense is a Texas company. Maybe that style bait is a regional thing? Anyway yeah I'm wondering where and how to fish this thing.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Had a day like that last April...fished all afternoon for 1 bite. Luckily she was a 7!

What is everybody's favorite finesse style tube? Lets say 3 inches and down

Explain this crank bait to me. What is so special about this thing? I've seen several pros say to use it differently then other cranks...so...what are you supposed to do with it?

I too am a Falcon trap caster guy...best rod I've ever used for lipless. I picked up 2 of them years ago at wal mart for $27 each...best $54 I've ever spent. For reels I'm not particular any low pro reel in the 6 or 7 gear range is good. Line wise I've been using 15lb copolymer but I'm gonna use 15lb mean green big game this year. As far as the okuma thing goes I've heard alot of good things about them but have never seen any locally so I haven't handled them.
