  1. I also believe there's a place for expensive and budget gear... I have a few rods in the $150 and up category mostly used for bottom contact lures..while most of my moving bait rods are Berkley shocks which are $50..I do have several falcon bucoo rods I use for cranks and lipless which are much higher end than the shocks but I only bought them cuz I found them years ago at wal mart for $27 bucks each I will say that while I don't think the bucoos help me catch more fish than the shocks they are definitely nicer to fish with...much lighter more comfortable and just a different feel to them Guess I'm saying like Bluebasser I save my money for sensitivity based lures and use budget rods where I can unless of course I come across that sweet deal where you can upgrade quality and still downgrade cost by being in the right place at the right time
  2. Id also opt for a boss finesse flip or siebert outdoors sniper jig...both reasonably priced especially if you make your own skirts
  3. I only ordered 3...but I received them today in there regular packaging
  4. Good luck to you..wishing you a speedy recovery
  5. I concur H&H spinner..no doubt
  6. Lots of great stuff on here and lots of stuff I'll have to look into as I've never heard of it...Rush is awesome always loved them... Radiohead is great OK computer was one of the first albums I was obsessed with...and 10000 maniacs there's a name I hadn't heard in years
  7. Oh man and I left out The Cure too another one of my favorites...for a guy that started this topic I really suck at it!
  8. Oh God how did I forget Alice in chains..my favorite from Seattle at that time
  9. Went back through and haven't seen this in a while...who are your favorite bands? My tastes are pretty diverse Some of mine are: The Clash Black Sabbath ( with ozzy or dio) Tom Petty The Smiths George Strait Steely Dan
  10. He pantsed me...something that may have happened to yourself or somebody you know in middle school... To me it means a fish that ripped your soft plastic off your T rig or jig without getting hooked Chucking a blade means throwing a spinnerbait or chatterbait...it does not however mean throwing a knife at someone
  11. I haven't had much luck with red either...well in soft plastics at least but red hard baits are solid. June bug however is great for me..May like it better than black n blue. Don't do what WRB said and burn your tackle...instead give it to a friend to use so you know if it's just you or if your tackle is cursed.
  12. Like many of you fishing has always been my stress reliever...I used to fish 5 to 6 evenings a week...now I work 12 hour days so I don't get out near as much... I will say when I got out more I didn't eat or drink near as much and was generally healthier and happier as in had a better attitude and was in a better mood most times
  13. I've got a few different cranking rods...for squarebills I love my 2 bucoo trapcasters..which are also my favorite lipless rods..guess they live up to the name
  14. Id say if your snagging up that bad id opt for the squarebill solely for its deflection qualities. As mentioned above I wouldn't pay that much for a lipless to throw from shore..Cordell spots are 3 to 4 bucks -Bill Lewis traps and red eyes shad are around 6 all are good baits. I also would agree that the lipless is more versatile... Yo yo it..medium speed reel it...burn it...rip it from grass...drag it like a jig...tons of options.
  15. Still locked down with ice...extended forecast looks good..i d guess 2 or 3 weeks for me..could be faster if we get some rain and or wind
  16. Be careful jerkbaits and crankbaits are both slippery slopes..you may be telling yourself I'll just get half a dozen baits to try...fifty baits later your wondering when it will stop! That said a jerkbait certain times of the year is unreal...when it's on nothing can beat it in my experience. Last spring I fished a local lake...fishing near a rock jetty I threw lipless and squarebills along side of it without a touch...tried a bladed jig nada...drug a jig around nada...switched to a jerkbait 3 jerks in got a 3lber...over the next hour I caught probably 10 more nice bass from the same little 15 yard stretch
  17. My favorite is the rapala shadow rap in bone...my second favorite is the rapala xrap in silver...but there is a big gap between my 1 and 2
  18. My favorite growing up is still my favorite now...Bassmasters...I remember reading the magazine's over and over and watching the shows every chance I got...always liked the anticipation around the tournament's and still do
  19. I fished mono for the first 15 years I bass fished...my dad did it since before I was born..I've caught thousands of bass on texas rigged soft plastics on mono with no problem..Also I caught fish on frogs on mono up until a few years ago but don't tell anybody cuz that doesn't work?, There are lots of good mono lines on the market that have better capabilities than even a few years ago so heck yeah mono can do whatever you need except maybe super heavy punching
  20. The only fairly new thing I throw are at all are ned rigs. Never tried tokyo...don't own a plopper but throw buzzbaits with good success. I'm intrigued by spybaits but don't fish the right conditions for them to shine. I actually over the past few years found myself going back to old-school stuff id gone away from...namely spinnerbaits. I had gotten away from them because of bladed jigs but realized they aren't the same baits and I need to throw both.
  21. I'm a bank guy and as such my style is way different..I use a drawstring bag or backpack with just 2 or 3 tackle trays and whatever plastics I need..front pocket I've got my tools and I usually carry 2 to 5 rods depending
  22. I use a bladed jig alot like I'd use a squarebill or spinnerbait usually in stained to muddy water but tend to throw them more in open water or grass as they hang around wood..a swim jig I throw around more cover as in wood or grass but usually in cleaner water..swim jig is much more subtle to me Also the trailer seems to be much more important on a swim jig from what I've seen..it provides the action or lack of for a swim jig as where a bladed jig gets its primary action from the blade and the trailer adds secondary action
  23. Only thing I personally like braid for is frogging... don't like the digging in\ casting issues with braid plus I fish a lot of rip rap and feel braid gets tore up bad around rock..if I fished more grass id use more braid..cranking and topwater I use mono...and use copoly for everything else...I'm not a fluoro guy either..I've also never done leaders for the reason of I've not needed to so why have another failure point
  24. Just ordered a couple rayburn red and a black chartreuse in the smaller size..can anybody who received there's already tell me the weight on these? Also does the hardware seem decent? I'm not expecting anything great hookwise for 3 bucks obviously
  25. In gonna do more cranking early this year...I've got flatsides and a few round bodied cranks to try. also I've never thrown spinnerbaits or bladed jigs until it warms up but I'm gonna have to change that.
