  1. I'm with A-Jay on this at least wait until your out of the store... I put everything into storage boxes mostly Plano specifically..only thing I keep in original packaging are soft plastics
  2. Guess I'm open to jig head suggestions... I don't really have any I'm looking at...guess I'm looking more at throwing worms as I throw grubs and swimbaits on ballheads
  3. Ill go along with moving baits and also a suspending jerkbait...for soft baits I think id maybe stick to zman stuff weightless since its buoyant and should help it not settle into the junk..maybe a fluke style bait or even a creature style bait that's wider and will hold it up on top
  4. Wondering what are the right conditions to throw these? Is ice out a good time? What kind of setup do you throw them on? Lastly what are your preferred plastics on them?
  5. I think after being iced up for 4 to 5 months the best time of day to fish at ice out is whenever your awake!
  6. Glad to hear your on the mend..luckily my household has stayed flu free so far knock on wood... my girlfriend works as a childcare provider and it's been bad there with kids and staff
  7. I use 15lb izorline xxx copoly.. I use it for lots of things honestly It's been a good budget line for me..not super cheap like big game but not expensive either..it's been durable and manageable for me
  8. Off topic but I wanted to say I'm eager for a new video Paul...winters getting long here and I'm getting bored...time to learn something!
  9. So I ended up getting the rod and paired it with a kastking assassin I had laying around. I have several "nicer" cranking combos but I must say that for a budget combo it feels pretty dang good. Light and balanced especially for 80 bucks.
  10. Thanks for all the replies...can't wait for ice out
  11. With a popper I like a slow subtle bloop bloop type technique with pauses of a second or more..however I do better with walking baits moving them fairly fast and almost walking them in place...buzzwords in also in the camp of slow and steady opting for a lighter bait or one with a larger blade
  12. I throw a swim jig alot... but I still throw a spinnerbait a lot as well...way more than a chatterbait
  13. I just said the other day my personal bait monkey is a Silverback guerilla..no finesse or sneaky tricks just pure power and intimidation to get what he wants I have to agree with Paul Roberts on this... I have ice for 4 to 5 months a year and out spend the other 8 months easily. Also wanna shout out to Paul..I believe you do the NatureOfFishing channel on youtube...your videos are great..very in depth and informative
  14. Thanks for all the replies...sounds like I was on the right track of when to use them..I will for sure be throwing some this spring as I'm sure to be confronted with muddy water
  15. I started making my own skirts last year and I've used boss heads along with siebert outdoors heads for several years..skirts.com is where I order all my skirt supplies from and I've had great experiences all orders correct and delivered pretty quickly...got in on that 50% off deal myself just made 4 football jigs and 8 Gary Klein flipping jigs.. a dozen jigs for $22...hard to beat under $2 bucks for a quality jig unless you are pouring your own heads too
  16. I'm jealous of you guys that live in the south... until I was 17 I lived down by the gulf and loved it... I've lived in northwest Iowa for 20 years now and best case scenario we have at least a month id guess until ice out Back to the blade color deal I've used colored blades with ok success..the copper blades really caught my eye again last weekend as I walked through Scheels and found a pack of hammered size 6 colorado copper blades for a couple bucks. I bought a pack, came home and modified a spinnerbait with one and a parrot colored skirt. One of the ponds I fish is large...honestly more of a very small lake... It borders a river so it floods often and I'm thinking these large copper blades may be the ticket in there
  17. My bad I just saw that I put this in the wrong forum and I'm not sure how to move it
  18. I remember seeing copper blade spinnerbaits when I was young...they seemed to go away and now I see more of them the past few years. I'll be honest I love spinnerbaits to a fault almost and always have but have never thrown a copper color blade. They intrigue me enough that I've bought and made several this winter and I'm wondering who in the bassresource community throws them? When do you throw them instead of say a gold blade?
  19. I've done the while get to my spot grab my tackle bag out of my back seat...walk around open my tailgate... oh God forgot my rods at home Don't know how embarrassing this is but painful for sure... Was reaching down to land a bass rod straining in one hand stretching down with the other one...fish shakes head throws bait and I get a spinnerbait hook under my thumb nail...had only been dating my girlfriend for a few months at that time and she got to see the real me..yeah so that was a good time
  20. Atta boy..see the bait monkey gets what he wants..mine is more like a silverback guerilla..I don't want the stuff but I'm afraid if I don't give in he will tear my arm off and beat me to death with it In all seriousness I don't own anything near that nice but making the jump from $50 to $150 reels for me and seeing that difference..I dont think you could possibly be disappointed in the antares especially at that price
  21. So the shad rap deal is kind of a new old deal for me.. I have a bunch of 5s and 7s the shallow ones I used to throw for walleye that sat in a box for 5 years at least.. I picked em up this fall and caught the heck out of bass even in that shallow water until the water temp was id guess low 40s..now over the winter I've spent some time modifying some of the 7s to make them rise slower and make them easier to throw on a baitcaster
  22. I haven't fished for bass much at night but I can tell you a story that may let you in on how in tune to the environment they are at all times.. I was catfishing one night late maybe like 2am with a buddy and I heard a fish bust down the shore just outside of lantern light range... as a joke I threw a ribbed stinkbait worm in the direction of the blow up and swam it on top..about 3 cranks in a 3lb largemouth murdered it
  23. I do the typical things go through tackle and order stuff I need\want..oil reels... re spool combos that need fresh line...one thing I usually do once or twice starting in February until ice out is heading up to the Berkley outlet in spirit lake Iowa and look for deals...just bought another previous generation shock 7ft medium heavy there a few days ago for $27
  24. I dont fish a traditional weighted trigged worm very much anymore honeslty.. opting mostly for a creature bait or a jig instead.. I do fish a weightless stick bait mostly senkos, dingers or bps stick o a lot during summer usually over and through grass
  25. Hey there buddy...nice to see another angler from my neck of the woods.. I have several Great friends that live in Omaha and I live about an 45 minutes North of Sioux city in Iowa
