Losing lures when casting?
Light lines digging into spool, expecially braids, or damaged guides.

Best Fluorocarbon For Spinning Reels
Florocarbon tends to be stiffer and wirey compared to soft nylons. In the right context, I've found the stiffness increases casting distance and decreases manageability compared to an equal diameter nylon. Tatsu is soft, look into sunlines offerings, sniper and assasin are very different, one is made more for abrasion resistance and leader material and the other is for main line. Go lighter than nylon, less line on spool than nylon, and don't use it in moderate-high winds, or with light lures.

Are you brand loyal ?

Kastking rover, or one reel for casting and or bait
SEAKNIGHT red fox might be something worth looking into, deep spool weighs 12 grams, run no less than 10lb on it, spool tolerances like line to get stuck between the spool and frame. Will fling weightless lizards far... centrifugal breaking.

Excited for 2023!
Sounds great!

How'd you do this year?
Pretty good, no big fish like last season, but good fishing none the less. Learning every trip, have pretty much gotten to that point where generally) I have been learning more based on personal experience rather than the internet, and have been getting much more creative and outside the box.

Finding fun in pursuing alternative species..
Thankyou so much for this info! My grandfather helped build the trails in john muir wilderness in the conservation core up there alot as well other parts of the sierras, it's quite nice! Pretty much been solely buying tackle from Japan right now with prices being so favorable and they make products I actually want! I picked up a diawa gekkabijin ajing rod and really like it, I have really gotten into ajing fishing because on the pacific coast we have almost the exact same fish species as the Japanese, we have the horse mackerel which are great fun even in the colder months. And the bigger pacific mackerel, jacksmelt, and occasionally a Bonito or Spanish mackerel fight tremendously hard, expecially on jdm line! It also seems to do well as a trout and panfish rod, but the ajing rods are a hair bit stiffer! I've also been playing around with a lot of Japanese lines and all the different types, I even have been exploring xul fishing with 1.2lb line. Not to mention trout area lures. Yeah! Went up to normal this summer and got to visit a sanctuary (no fishing) but had some native rainbows in it that where very pure geneticially, some of them almost look like yammamae from Japan.

Finding fun in pursuing alternative species..
Trout, panfish and crappie and catfish they are no less desirable than bass, I don't know why the fishing industry is skewed so favorably towards bass, quite frustrating imo, lots of other great game fish that go untapped, it's truly a shame there is such a lack in the U.S market for light+UL game multispecies tackle for salt and freshwater, but that's okay because us Americans like "WiN GrIP POwEr KNobS and 50+1 BaLl bEaRiNgS"

Fiberglass stored outside
It will delaminate storing outside is OK but I would reccomend a cover for it, also a UV wax will help drastically. If you have mild winters, that is, (living in sandiego)

Spinning Or Casting
There is a huge rabbit hole, I will try to bring something more to the table other than bc=heavy sp=light, although that is 100% correct Bc has huge advantage of aiding heavy 1/4oz + lures to land softly by tightening spool tension and thumbing. And is generally more accurate for pitching. Bfs is very useful for light bass and heavy trout but I find I much perfer 1.5g and lower for L/UL spinning Spinning is very good at light lures, I've found after putting many hours in of fishing them they are also very effective for flipping when mastered when fishing the very light end of the lure spectrum, and will even outperform bfs on presentation because the freedom of the speedy fall rate, which is a obvious double edged sword. A ported bfs spool can only go so light before you loose the accuracy due to too light of lures. The threshold for me seems to be 1.5g before I'm fighting the resistance of the spool for accuracy too much.

Top 5 Best/Worst Bank Fishing Techniques
Depends on the lake and cover, it's easier to list the ones that don't work well vs the ones that do -clearly bad things for bank fishing Extra Deep diving cranks Jigging spoons (I wouldn't use A rigs) Heavy jig weights made for deeper water --a special bonus nobody uses but works as a good niche Flutter spoons

Fishing for Bass with Minnows
If 2-3 inch minnows, expecially crappie minnows seem to swim best on lighter smaller hooks and line. Using heavier line and or big hooks seems to handicap their swimming

Pfluger president 25 failure...
No never taken them apart, the drag clicker piece broke, took it apart on the water and a little piece of the pot metal flaked out, fit perfectly the the clicker. One nice thing about diawas drag clicker is they don't use a click and paul!

Pfluger president 25 failure...
Yes you are all correct, I will use it with heavier line, but I have (true) 1.2lb (.070mm) line on this spool, so not knowing line is getting payed when fish are pulling is very important. I will still fish it though and use it with U.S 2lb line for panfish Just the drag not clicking when paying line, it sounds fussy but I have true 1.2lb line (.070mm) and it's very important to hear line being payed when a fish pulls. It will work fine when I put U.S 2lb line for panfish on it. Yes I will try that! I pretty much got a copy paste response for their reel service plug, will try this!

Pfluger president 25 failure...
After using the reel for 4 years once every two months for trout, the pfuger president xt 25 I own finally failed, in the least likley spot, the drag clicker...... reached out to customer service which was 0/10 and pretty much wanted to charge double of what Mike here at dvt would in a copy paste response. Crazy that a part of the reel with 0 stress failed before anything else.... won't be buying pure fishing products in the foreseeable future, even more dissapointing that aliexpress fishing brands have better customer service than pure fishing..... glad I picked up a diawa tatula lt a few weeks previously, and can speak to their customer service. Anyways just thought I'd let any pfluger president owners be aware of this issue.

“Swimbait” - Confusing terminology
No definition set in stone really, it's a very very broad category, it's like saying soft plastic, it could mean a 2 inch grub or a 10 inch ribbon tailed worm and anything inbetween

Getting back into Bass fishing
Is the line actually twisted, or are you get tangles between the reel and the first guide, the ladder is often associated with line twist but is completely separate, it is instead wind knots. They are often worse in windy conditions but will occur without wind when throwing lighter lures, overfilling your spool, casting too hard, or reeling slack onto the spool over time. Many other factors contribute to this problem, but I won't bore you, it's not worth the extra 10 feet of casting extra hard to get wind knots, manage your line well, stop line from coming off of the spool when the lure hits the water to prevent wraps deeper in the spool from loosening. Take time to managing your line, use as light of diameter as you can. Spinning reel spool lip design and line lay is much more complicated than 95% of anglers realize, many expensive reels actually purposefully use uneven line lay to reduce and if used by a skilled angler, eliminate wind knots. ABS spool design is one example.

Do you find flurocarbon improves bites when throwing moving baits in rivers for smallmouth when compared to mono?
I've found bass generally aren't line shy, I don't use floro much nylons work just fine, only time I really like it is for presenting a light bait or getting baits deeper.

New spinning reel (light) scuff/scratch noise
I just picked up two different diawa tatula lt spinning reels from Japan, one is (slightly) smoother and makes (slightly) less noise, and the other is (slightly less smooth and makes (slightly) more scuffing/scratching noise. Was just curious if anyone has this issue on any other spinning reel brands or names, i know it's impossible for two reels to feel identical because the factory is not perfect in greasing, and giving light oil on both main shafts quieted them both down. A bit.
