  1. I've been using some yo zuri 3dr minnows, they have okay action, slow float in warmer water, they where 2.50$ on black Friday so well worth it, with 6lb line you can get 5 feet. wouldn't pay the retail msrp for them tho. Tried the Berkley stunna 70, it was alright but I didn't fish it enough to get a good idea, dives 2-3 from what I remember.
  2. winter? Sorry not too familiar with it? Stay warm, that's tundra weather!
  3. Thanks so much, will look into those, thanks!
  4. Excellent writeup as always, wanted to let you know I ordered the Nikko shrimp you recommended, mackerel out west here love em on aji gear! I wish I had a collection of handbaits as big as yours! I also really like the floating Nikko baits. Are the slow fall jigs duos? Are they worth getting?
  5. Yes, I had a bad day and lost an s waver, broke off on the cast, line got damaged from rock. I keep them I. Zip block bags because they are to big for my Plano stowaway boxes, and put packing peanuts over the tip. Saw some soft storage packets but never tried, let me know if you find one that works well! This is what I was thinking of, in fact I will perhaps try them next order from TD
  6. That's not a bad thought, I made my own and I really like them near wood, because a dropshot with tag end weight and limp line likes to wrap around limbs underwater.
  7. Hello everyone, as the title suggests, I know little about bows really, I own a newer compound mid teir compound diamond bow and draw 30#. My question is If anyone knows any good recurve bows in the 100$ range. I was also going to get arrows with it, right now I shoot victory shafts in 600 spine, but wanted to know if there where any better options. For recurve other than carbon. (Bow is not for hunting, just fun)
  8. Both are okay, izorline is really overhyped for SOCAL, it's meh, somewhat stretchy, thicker than advertised diameter. Trilene XL is not as stretchy, handles well and out of all is most likely the softest, but is slightly thinner and freighs more easily. Pline cxx has absolutely without a doubt best abrasion resistance and least stretch of all, only problem is in clear trout areas I notice it can turn fish off. Don't get first string by izorline 2lb is 6lb diameter and handles terribly, wirey, just ugh. Maxima also is very very good, is thicker than most but manages very very well. My top recommendation though is sunline super natural for usdm, runs thinner than most lines, but is by far the best of management. If you are buying directly from sunline get troutist darkness, it's by far the best usdm trout line by far.
  9. That's a good point, I want an 2500c sooooo bad but they are so hard to get hands on at a good price. The Chinese made a knockoff "ming yang" with bfs 10g spool. I thought I said u prefer bfs more, and use casting 95% of the time, what changed your mind if I might ask
  10. Absolutely, one of the reasons I really like bfs is for those heavier fast sinking minnows in streams where tight line is important to prevent fouling, be it getting fouled in the air, or under the turbulent water with slack.
  11. Yes, some grubs I ordered took a few months to get here, they weren't even backorder but I guess the stock was damaged.
  12. The classic spin vs bfs. I have become very very proficient in spinning, expecially pitching from years of creek fishing norcalI before i owned quite a few bfs reels. I really like bfs for heavier lures above 2g that fall+fly super fast. As for 1.5g and lower I love spinning because it alllows freer fall than bfs which allows better accuracy if used correctly, yet slow enough to allow time to feather the sp spool and flip the bail right before the lure hits the water. However, I have bad luck taking apart spinning reels, and have much better success rate taking apart bfs reels, so in mucky slimy pondy stagnet water with slop everywhere I use cheaper bfs as ease to take apart
  13. Nice! I am also impressed Like light power or weight? I have a good bfs recommendation if you are interested, I own 5 they are such a gem, let me know I'll DM you them and go more into detail
  14. Interesting, have you noticed the spool not always going in the exact same way?
  15. I used 15lb big-game and a heavy action slx, worked much much better as you said! I was using 10lb omniflex on a medium heavy moderateish fast, just didn't have enough power to drive the huge bass jigs in!
  16. I am very new to jig fishing, but I've found rubber skirted jig fishing with weed guards takes heavier gear and less stretchy line than worming. I lost a lot of fish just coming off because I was using too light and stretchy of equipment. I got Japanese jigs and it solved the problem.
  17. Yeah absolutely, I got the Krestel elite and it's overbreaked badly and has tight but inconsistent spool tolerances depending on how you put the spool in.
  18. Absolutely, plus I don't mind sharing because nobody is going to overfish the minnow and shad populations lol
  19. Talk about fun in winter secret lure, waxpaper! fishing .0074mm (1.1lb) nylon line with size 20-30 hook and tiny price of wax paper soaked in garlic For Glass minnows, American shad, and golden shiner.(tanago) That's my secret fun. America doesn't sell stuff like this sadly, but in Japan the culture has a huge variety of angling techniques. I use a cdm xxul rod, but I am going to make a bamboo line thru rod with even lighter action similar to what Japanese anglers use. The reel fun begins when a largemouth takes the minnow that you hooked! I landed a 2lb bass with it, it peeled 200 feet of line before I got it in then I hooked up to a 2.5lb bass a week later and swam 500 feet to a downed tree.... The bite is often be light and undetectable so I tie small 6 inch sections of orange into the main line every 3 feet on the line. small floats, beaded indicators are also commonly used, but sense they are very hard to get hands on, I tie orange line into the clear line as indicator. Some different food for thought lure wise going into a cold winter for the people who want to catch something, and a great time to practice as minnows seem to like to huddle the sun baked shorelines in the afternoon of winter, if you aren't one of the people so far up north. P.S (I have splurged another this year jdm wise, more than I should, but this is literally the cheapest fishing technique to get into, I think each spool of line was 6$ (on sale) and hooks where $20 for 50 in sizes 22-30.)
  20. It's copycat cdm stuff similar to kastking, it is comparable to doyo and banax factory reels, personally I've just gone fully cdm because you can find an identical model out of the same factory under a different name from half off. I also think piscifuns marketing is more trashy than yaliyabba, so that says something. Customer service is garbage compared to KK, KK will make it right, even if their product isn't a Shimano they have a better warranty than a 900$ g Loomis fly rod, and will outright ship an entirely new reel to your door shipping included, and send gifts, or upgrade your broken reel. To dumb my rambling down, I'd rather go KK or pure cdm of any brand, Seaknight is good, tsurinoya are top of the line quality for cdm, sougayilang was bad but new rods are very good. And anything in between can be gem or trash. Bearking is another excellent brand I have tried, they are made in the same company as ifishband, which seems to be discontinued. You can also buy the new ifishband bfs reel from bearking with their logo (same specs) If you don't want to order off of yaliyabba and the 50 hacker thrives BFE upcharges slightly but is a secure payment method with FAST shipping
  21. Merry Christmas friends
  22. Ok I was also very confused about sealed vs not sealed and did a lot of research to make a educated desicion Mag seal on Diawas are not worth it, it's a special magnetic oil that prevents debris from getting in, it's great but you cannot buy new magseal oil from diawa so if you clean your reels personally your normal oil will do nothing. And the reel will be worse than o rings/gaskets. O rings/gaskets are what you want, not as good as Magseal but cheap affordable and easy to replace. Diawa BG is a metal frame reel and won't warp against big fish, also has some light sealing and no magseal. Retails 120msrp.. if you are fishing near sand buy a cheap 40$ cdm sw reel, they hold up well and if you absolutely drop any reel in sand it will never ever be the same. Fw reels also work in salt if you don't want to invest a ton, use cheap ones because they will corrode from the salt, hose them off ocd good and take them apart after every trip if you really want them to last, or just buy a 40$ cdm and abuse and trash 3000-5000 is good, I use a 6000 but it's a little too heavy and big and would have been better for small 10-15lb tuna on charters.
  23. Learning something new every day great thread op
  24. 1# #2, 1/0+ is too big for DS worms, okay for senko
