Help me understand a knot strength anomoly
Most knots are stronger than the tier and failure comes usually from the person tying a bad knot or getting snagged and pulling, not the knot itself.

Do you think that almost every creek with deep holes has giant (18”+) smallmouth?
Yes it's possible

No Shad lakes
Bluegill and crappie do the same thing, they go to backs of coves to school. There are also perhaps glass minnows or small forage you don't notice other than shad, they school those up too

How much wasted tackle?
Most non gimic lures on the market catch fish, I wouldn't say I wasted money, some lures I have not caught a fish on yet, but it's usually more of an over spending fishing issue

Potential new rod and reel
When buying fishing gear thats of higher quality, I go by two rules, 1. What do YOU want in your rod (more sensitivity, more durability, lighter in the hand, etc) 2. whats on sale (*cough cough black cough Friday cough cough around corner save money cough*)

Allergies
So you can take one clariton/zertec a day, but you can stack Benedrylls on top of that, they make you tired but it pretty much knocks the allergies out completley for me, Id rather be a little tired while fishing than miserable, but thats just me. (P.S im not a doctor, far from it, so talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking recommendations from somebody on the internet)

Texas rig: pegged or free weight
Free weight almost always unless punching, less leverage the fish can throw, higher hoomset ratio due to fish not swallowing a weight, and a more natural fall.

Why I am a better ________ angler than you are!
If you like langleys, just two weeks ago I found a real nice older couple in their seventies at a garage sale that had two langley spinning reels (one a spin Flo, and a spinator+boxes and schematics) looked up the history of them and its a very cool company located out of Sandiego, they are hanging up on my wall

Topwater On Spinning Reels
This is one of the few scenarios I use bfs, actually the only scenario for bass. Get a high gear ratio bfs reel and it will solve this issue, if you are using poppers a spinning reel will work fine, but small whopper ploppers buzzbaits, and pencil/cigar walking baits really benefit from a fast gear ratio reel, and this technology doesn't exist in reliable spinning reels quite yet Personal preference, I'm a lefty as well and fish RH as well, many of the older guys that are right handed fish RH retrieve as well because they grew up on it. Some RH guys are switching to LH retrieve.

Red Eyes
I don't know much about smb, but I think it's just genetics, some of my lmb have bright red eyes similar to this, others are just pure black. Nice catch nonetheless

FG knot issues with light line
Some guys are saying you aren't tying it right, personally I'm not wanting to be a perfectionist in knot tying, and take the extra 10 minutes to make the knot perfect when I could be fishing. I want to tie a lure on with a simple clinch not and get my line in the water. Go copolymer or floro and leave braid in the dust. Use it for flipping and pitching, or frogs, but it's more or a hassle for me

Soft trout hook orientation?
Wow thankyou for this information, I will avoid the savage gear swimbaits and get some more Hudds with top hooks. I never thought of going out on the weeks the plant, I will try that, I never have.

Soft trout hook orientation?
Savage gear pulse tail rtf swimbait (top hook jighead with stinger) vs savage gear pulse tail 4d line thru swimbait.
-
Baitcaster gear ratio
Those will work just fine for all crankbait techniques, you don't need a slower gear ratio, only if you really want to specialize. You can also put half the line you normally put on your casting reel to get 22-24 ipt.

Soft trout hook orientation?
Thanks for the input ?

Soft trout hook orientation?
What rig do you guys perfer for soft trout swimbaits, exposed jig hook, line thru, or stinger treble hook style. I have two of the three but have not caught enough fish on either to make a confirmation on what hookup ratio is better

braid/leader brands and sizes for smallish shallow stream trout
Ive done so much trout fishing on the west coast be it be stockers or wild, and even native trout, I can give you the scoop. Braid isnt an ideal line for trout. I use 2lb izorline to a 2lb florocarbon leader with water visibility 12 inches. Berkley xl casting monofilament is an okay alternative and will cast farther than izorline because of a thinner diameter, but is weaker and you will have to set your drag looser. Muddy water trout you can get away with normal coplymers and heavier line diameters. 2lb line isnt weak by any means and will teach you how to approprietley fight fish, my biggest trout was 9lbs on 2lb gear and took 4 minutes getting it in, It teaches you how to back reel or set drag, I have caught multiple 6+ pound trout on 2lb line. Get the right rod and reel for this line.

Best fall conditions
this weekend I went out with "prime" pre frontal windy conditions with complete cloud coverage, sounds good for them schooling right? I guess not because the weather wasn't stable, after looking back on the weather I realized weather was dipping down to 30 at night and it has been 60 compared to the average 80, and after questioning why they where not eating, ive concluded this is my answer.
