  1. All my Diawa dials are pretty darn stout. There’s zero chance the dial on my CT is going to move from inertia during a cast.
  2. That Tatula CT was smaller than the Original Tatula back in 2016. But it's larger than a Tat 100. "This" one (2020) is the exact same frame, size, etc.. as the Tatula CT that's been around since 2016. Looks like they repainted it, added the tiny knobs, and stuck a fixed inductor spool in it. Unless there's something we are missing, I'd buy the "old" Tatula CT over the "new" version for sure.
  3. I mean, I'm right there with you. I like them. But the majority of my fishing buddies are into split grips. So I'm just speaking to what I observe to be the "popular" vote.
  4. If the changed the regular Tatula casting rods to the cork spit grips.... I bet they'd sell like hot cakes (not that they aren't already a great rod).
  5. Yea, that was the only new product that even caught my eye... and come to find out there’s nothing new about it.
  6. How many colors does your store have? Here it’s just Black/blue, green pumpkin and Tex craw. Oh, and PB&J in the football head.
  7. Oh, FYI. On the pro models, I add some super glue where the rattle attaches to the head. If you don’t, they come off pretty quick.
  8. You mean these?? ?
  9. No, have only pulled the side plate to clean and lube. But I'd agree, and that's what stumped me. I'm about 99% sure there was little to no end play in the shaft until recently. I would have noticed the "clack clack" noise. Or maybe the play was there, but it started clacking louder for some reason? Who knows. GO9-9801 (item 69 on Coastal SV diagram) is what's in question, correct?
  10. I'm going to pull it apart tonight and check. I guess I'll grind a new washer to the correct thickness.
  11. DVT... where you at?? Ha. Will a shim work?
  12. I know end play is normal on most reels, and is no cause for concern, but I’ve never had one go from tight, to clackity clack in one fishing trip.... I’ve been thrilled with my Daiwa Coastal SVs, they have been tight and smooth. However, yesterday while pitching and quickly retrieving jigs, I noticed the “clack, clack, clack” you get when a reel handle shaft has some end play. I think I noticed it because that reel has been pretty quiet, and because the “clack” seems louder than other reels. I checked my other coastal, and it’s tight as a drum. Upon inspection, the reel in question does have quite a bit end play. As much or more than any other reel I’ve purchased recently. It also seems to “clack” louder as well. Maybe because of the aluminum side plate? Not sure. Anyway, trying to decide if it’s worth trying to shim the shaft, or if I should sent it in? I use the two coastals side by side a good bit right now, so having one that “clacks” and one that is quiet is hard to overlook.
  13. Not a ton of actual instruction.... but the entertainment value is 10/10.
  14. I don't think the new products will affect your purchase. I talked to Daiwa yesterday about something else, and poked the guy for info. He insinuated it was mainly updates to saltwater products. Take that for what it's worth.
  15. Tatula 7'1" H/F rod, and a Coastal SV. The more I skip and pitch with this rod, the more I love it. I'm no G-man, but with a 3/8 Juicee jig and craw trailer, that setup slides under docks and brush pretty easily.
  16. All noted. Both of my Coastals are really smooth, like dead smooth. After using them, my Revos and other Tat feel like Mickey Mouse reels. I'm not naive to the fact that their are obviously nicer reels out there, and I have no problem spending more on a reel, IF I thought my uses justified it. But so far, the Coastals have done everything I've asked of them, and done it in a pretty refined way (from my point of view). Can you elaborate on what what underwhelmed you for money ($175)? I'm open to being sold on a different, similarly priced reel, if there are notable advantages to it.
  17. The Elite P/F would be an option I guess, but for a definite price hike over the Coastal. Plus the Coastal pitches pretty darn well, and is probably better "all around" than the Elite P/F. And yea, I worried about the extra line weight at first... but the Coastal will buzz a weightless 5" Dinger as far as I'll ever want to cast one, so I'm happy with that. I wouldn't want to throw a little ned rig in the wind.... but that's what spinning reels are for.
  18. I have a couple of the Coastal SVs in 7.1. Fantastic reels. I think they pitch at little better than my Tatula CT, and definitely easier to skip. I want an 8 speed reel for a new jig rod, and was considering going with the regular Tatula SV 103 this time. However, as long as SO has the Coastal for $175, it might remain the smarter buy? Anyone have both reels? Other than the longer handle, deeper spool, and aluminum side plate, the appear to be the same reels? Can anyone contrast their function?
  19. If I was getting an SV, I'd get the Tat SV 103 or the Coastal SV.
  20. Agreed. Even the grip and reel seat looks/feels more expensive.
  21. I fished a little with a friends Aird X a little bit lately. If I'm honest, I had a quick "paying more for rods is silly" moment. They are really nice.
  22. Is there a code or something?
