*sigh* You could just reference or link the regulation you're referring to instead of being pedantic. I did in fact research it, and this is the only published reference I've seen (and it isn't even on a TP&W website). Look, I think jumping the dam is dumb. I think we all agree there. But as someone that spends a good bit of time fishing, hunting, and recreating in National Forests and WMAs, I'm also reluctant to accept something as "prohibited" unless it is specifically noted as such by the governing/enforcing agency.

I did. Even specific to that WMA and Toledo. If you know of specific, published restrictions, just link them?

Is this published somewhere? Or is it just conjecture?

I think it's a pretty big reach to assume what he did would even blip on TP&W's radar.

Well... that's a screen shot from the wrong video....Try the video I linked directly above the satellite image? Or the "new" link I provided when I edited my original comment. If you compare the correct video to the satellite image, you'll see the similarities. Even the trees correspond. Here's some stills:

@Catt two issues with what? I think you're mistakenly interpreting my comment(s) as defense of Poche or his actions, and/or specific to the decision BASS made. I really couldn't care less about what rules are in question, etc. Him sending the dam, and the details surrounding it is just entertaining to me. However, in reference to the WMA, it has been reported in several places that the "impoundment" in question IS open to fishing, and that Poche had the necessary permits. I'm not sure what you're implying a game warden would take offense with? You said you'd "have to see that done" in reference to him jumping the dam, so I provided video, with fairly objective evidence that it is the area in question.

Uhh! ? From everything I've seen/heard, there's no evidence that he used the rollers at all. If you go back an look at my post edit, I linked another video. I'll link it again here. https://www.instagram.com/p/CrJlKB7r_E5/ Below is the satellite image of the "dam" in question. It would be awful hard to get a run-up on those rollers. Instead, based on the IG video that IMO corresponds to that satellite image my theory is: Red line = Poche's "jumped" route across the dam. Black dot = The location of the person that filmed the IG video. Blue circle = You can see a blip of this structure in the last frame of the IG video. (the water level in the satellite image appears to be lower than in the IG video) This is just my theory, for the sake of forum discussion. I have no hard evidence. See my above response. I don't believe he mentions actually using the rollers in any of the currently available videos or podcasts.

In his very own words: "Cause I jumped a little ole rollover dam" I've heard him refer to "jumping" the d**n several times, but I've yet to see him describe using the rollers.

I believe this is the jump in question? https://www.instagram.com/p/CsL6XSYublv/?hl=en ETA: I linked the wrong post. Below is the intended video. https://www.instagram.com/p/CrJlKB7r_E5/ Judging by the geography seen in that video, compared to google earth satellite image of the area in question, and based on his description in the LD podcast, I'd say that's the spot. The rollers would have been "behind" the camera man. I don't think he actually used the rollers (at least going in). If you look at the google earth image, the timber would have prevented a good run-up at the rollers.

Super cheap gems
Granted, the reel was on sale (still is), but as an experiment to see how a “cheap” rig will fish, I’ve got $114 total in this setup. The guides on the Lews HP are nothing to write home about, but the blank on that rod is super light and crisp (albeit stiff). I think it’s actually lighter and balances better than my similar spec Zillion/ Tat elite setup. I kind of like the reel seat too. The reel is the $150 (retail) Lews Hack Attack HD. I paid $67. I had to swap it once to get one that felt nice and smooth, but for a China reel, this one is not bad at all. No chance I’d guess this setup was less than $250 if you handed it to me blindfolded (or possibly even without the blindfold if I ignored the guides).

Flipping pitching rod recommendations
No idea. The 7’4” Tatula “frog” rod is rated to 2oz. But it’s pretty much the “broomstick” you said you didn’t want. The 7’1” Tatula heavy is pretty stout. I run 55lb braid and toss frogs on one, and usually have 20-25lb flouro and a 1/2oz jig and trailer on the other. I’ve honestly never felt like I needed more rod.

Flipping pitching rod recommendations
Idk. These days I do all my pitching work (jigs and creatures) with a couple of Tatula 7’1” H/F “jig” rods. Ive kind of put aside all my rods over 7’3”. I don’t get an tangible benefits, and they make me slightly less accurate sometimes. (if I actually flipped at all, I’d keep a long rod in the boat for that)

The latest sale thread
To be fair, now that I look into it, I’m pretty sure most of the Lews under about $250 are chinesium these days? (but I’m not a lews guy so I could be wrong)

if it’s Chinese? It’s definitely made in China.

Eh. Don't read too much into my "geary" statement. I'm pretty picky in that regard. But it does appear to be a China reel. Not Korean.

Mine came in today. It was just loose in the box. The carboard had kind of eaten the finish up, and honestly mines pretty geary straight out of the box. But my box, and reel both say made in China. Does yours actually say Korea?

I'm not a Lew's guy, but that seems like a great deal. Looks like this is an Academy "exclusive".... Which reel does it most closely compare to in their standard line up? ETA: Went ahead and ordered one to try. $67.40 shipped with a discount code. Couldn't pass it up.

Daiwa Coastal SV TW 150 vs Tatula SV TW103 (2020)
Listen to this advice. I own multiple coastals and multiple Zillions. No way I’d ever buy another coastal (or Tat SV) when you can get the Zillions at JPY prices. Also, the main gear/drag setup is a slightly different design in the Coastal.

Daiwa Coastal SV TW 150 vs Tatula SV TW103 (2020)
The Coastal has an aluminum side plate (like the elite).

I need a new Jig rod ...
I have two Tatula 7'1" Heavys, and I do pretty much ALL of my jig fishing and some of my creature bait fishing with them these days. Pitch with them, skip, cast a frog sometimes. Good rods. I don't have any Elites, but that 7'3" MH at Midway is calling me hard. If I didn't already have a 7'3" MH Tatula, it would be ordered.

S&W Ammo Recommendation
For training/recreational shooting, bullet weight is based on personal preference of recoil characteristics, or what the particular barrel prefers accuracy wise. For self defense ammunition, Don't waste money on gimmicks. Stick to any of the modern, proven offerings and you'll be fine. Stick to 124 and 147gr projectiles (or 135 in the case of Hornady). The following are safe choices. Federal HST Speer G2 Hornady Critical Duty Win PDX1 Win Ranger (if you can get it) The 5906 can be a little more picky than more modern striker fired guns, so I'd definitely confirm function with a few boxes of whatever defensive ammunition you choose.

Do-All Jig
Hit up the nearest Wally World, grab a $2.50 Strike King Pro Model and a Tour Grade Football jig. Two jigs and 4 Rage Craws for ~$5. Add a can of Vienna's and a pack of Ramen and you can fish all day and eat lunch for ~$6.50.
