  1. Mine did in less than a year. Everything I had was 40 to 50+ years old. I needed a refresh. I now have 4 baitcasters: a HF, a MHF, a MF and a MHMF. And three spinning rigs: a MLXF and two MF. I normally take no less than 4 or more than 5 on my inflatable. Unless I damage or lose something I’m good for now.
  2. My Falcon Lowrider All 'Round Fast MHF is my dedicated Texas rig rod. Paired with a Daiwa Fuego CT 8.1:1, it shines. Falcon builds a great rod.
  3. Others may disagree (may be more correct than me as well), but this is what I see. Casting a crankbait, etc. of the appropriate weight, it does seem to load up deeper in the blank as a Mod Fast vs a Fast action. But it appears when using a soft plastic with a decent weight all on its own (as the mentioned Fat IKA and Neko Machos are), using 10 lb. Big Game, I have had no problems with hook sets using 3/0 round offset or EWG hooks. I actually tried it as being my first Dobyns rod, I wanted to see how well it detected strikes. Let’s face it, you don’t get overly taxed detecting strikes on a crankbait. It surprised me. I do mainly use it 95% of the time with a jerkbait, squarebill or lipless tied on, as I have other rigs with me for other presentations, but sometimes it’s a pleasure flicking out a weightless soft plastic with a baitcaster with ease. Give it a try and see how it works for you.
  4. I’ve found it works pretty well on some weightless TR, from Zoom Z Craw worms to Fat IKA’s. It really casts them well, too. Especially the heavier baits like the Fat IKA and Neko Macho.
  5. Purple. Followed by black.
  6. Very good addition to the site!
  7. Trust me…this is not indicative of the only size bass these work on! Not going to complain as that broke the skunk for this afternoon. But I did have one about 2 lbs. that hit a Mann’s Jelly Worm that threw the hook halfway to the boat. The Z Craw worm also caught a 3” bluegill…almost. It bit the tail and hung on until it hit the surface. Must’ve been starving!
  8. That’s something that’s been nagging at me for a while. When I was young and fishing in the 70s and early 80s, they were floating plugs. You cast and cranked. Sometimes straight back and sometimes with pauses, but that was it. Got away from fishing for decades and started back last year. Heard terms I never heard before. Ned rig, wacky rig, jerkbait, etc. Some I understand as they either weren’t around when I stopped fishing, but when did a floating or suspending lure suddenly become a jerkbait? And does anyone still cast and retrieve them? I do, about 50%-50%, and catch bass both ways. It’s not simple jerking when sitting about 12” above the water lol.
  9. Yes! So far only ones in California 420 color. Not only do they have great action, but they are heavier than a Trick or Mag II and are a breeze to fish either weightless or a TR with a bullet weight.
  10. The Summer of Ugh continues. Fished before sunrise until after 1:00 pm. Three bites = 3 dinks. That was it. Three. Bites. First dink at least was semi-exciting as he hit a Whopper Plopper just at sunrise. Only took a pic because it looked so “huge” compared to the WP lol. The other two were caught almost back-to-back on a #297 Senko WR. I used a frog, a Pop Max, spinnerbait, jerkbait, weightless and weighted Texas rigs, dropshot and man, was it dead.
  11. A 1/0 Gamakutsu octopus circle hook is my wacky rig hook. Unless I gut hook a bass (which is a rarity), I don’t have any issues removing the hook. And on the occasion I do, going through the gills normally gets the hook out and saves the bass.

  13. I agree it’s likely the retrieve speed. I adjust my speed depending on water depth and how close to the surface the weeds, etc. are at the time. I will add my success with squrebills lately has plummeted.
  14. lol. That’s where I purchased mine.
  15. Both of my Black Max’s were bought last year and both have black handles, so that was either A-a change for 2021; or B-mine were on the shelf a while lol. I have no problems with either of them.
  16. Same. I’d call them “slight overruns” more than backlashes lol. Maybe a few loose loops that I need to pull out. Knock on wood, I haven’t had a really bad bird’s nest in a while. Wind knots? I have two spinning rigs with 20 lb braid-to-leader. So far, so good.
  17. Don’t bash me lol, but I have had more success with a Googan Scout suspending jerkbait than any other. It stays suspended well, has great action and the sharpness of the hooks really surprised me.
  18. I’m lovin’ my Falcon Lowrider All ‘Round Fast for just such applications.
  19. Been there done that!
  20. It was free, and it keeps the sun off my head and neck lol.
  21. Only had two hours to fish today, and rather than hit it at first light, I waited until 9:30. Had a nice breakfast with eggs, bacon, English muffins and apricot preserves and coffee, then hit the pond. Not earth-shattering but still caught three bass. The first was this scrappy bass on a #956 Senko WR. Caught another on the WR, then switched to a blue/black jig w/Rage Menace trailer (followed by a Rage Tail Craw trailer). Nothing on that. Finally cast a Mann’s Jelly Worm in blackberry. It’s been well-used and kinda torn up. This bass didn’t mind. He took it before it sank a foot and ran with it. He was a scrapper as well. This week I plan to hit the water around 7:00 pm and fish until dark and see what happens.
  22. I’d say the first pic is a nice bass!
  23. That’s a great collection. I always wanted to try that around Sharpsburg and Gettysburg when I lived in Maryland (not on the battlefields but surrounding areas).
  24. What’s the definition of “weightless”? I ask as I fish Fat IKA’s and Neko Machos on a 3/0 EWG hook with no additional weight from both my Fuego CT and Tatula 100H without an issue. Granted, not gonna happen with a weightless Zoom Trick or even a Mann’s Jelly Worm, but those baits cast well without additional weight from my Daiwas.
