  1. They aren't waterproof, the components just deal with corrosion a little better.
  2. Theyre heavier then Costas 580 glass and way heavier then Costas or Oakleys plastic
  3. Yup, they were the pair I had replace on Vacation. Since the frame doesn't cover the bottom of the lenses you have to flip them over if you want them to rest on your brim when you aren't using them. The old school minutes were really nice as well, but now they're completely different.
  4. A few years ago I lost a pair of good glasses on Vacation so I had to get a new pair fast. The only thing the closest sunglass hut had that was any good was a pair of Maui Jims, I think the frames are Stingrays which I really dont like. The glass lenses on the other hand are the probably the best I've ever had for the 200$ ballpark price. Glass does does have drawbacks, its heavy so the frame isnt a good fit they feel like they can slide off your face if your looking down. Costa and Oakleys have more comfortable frames and feel better to wear. Costas are great because they have frames to fit anyone so you just look for your size/style and go from there. If you want to upgrade the lenses you can.
  5. Mono works ok if you have enough power in the rod. Ive been using a 7'2 MH MF with 15lb InvizX for light flippin the past couple months and I catch 9 of 10. If you do use a weight try it without a peg or stop, it helps.
  6. Make sure the fish has a good bite on it before you go to set. They can hold onto one for a long time and don't be afraid to put a little tension on the line before you set the hook. Prey doesnt just give up right away it struggles and most of the time any resistance will just cause the fish to take it deeper, much like a jig. Also lose the mono, especially with a softer tipped rod.
  7. It depends what you want to throw. For dense baits that don't offer a ton of wind resistance my 20Met is awesome. You can get a JDM 20Met for around 260$. Im pretty sure the Curado 70 MGL uses the same spool, so the casting performance should be about as good and its considerably cheaper. I like to throw lots of smaller CBs and flatsides that arent the easiest casting baits. The MGLS throw them well, but the SV spools make fishing them in wind a little easier. You dont get the distance with the SV, but that spool comes in handy.
  8. If I had to pick 1 it would be a an arkie or casting style head with a vertical eye. They come through grass, skip, drag without getting bogged down and swim really well. In the past couple years Molixs' Kento Jig is becoming one of if not my favorites, the 1/4s are really compact and 3/8s are full size, great hook, great skirt material and hand tied. DJs Luke Clausen Casting Jigs are great as well and colors are awesome. The skirts are banded, so I like to cut the band and tie them with wire or braid for a fuller flare. Keitechs Mod1 Ver2 are great as well if you want a smaller profile.
  9. You can get a rod that can throw a little grub or swimbait with a 1/32 head 40-50ft without too much trouble as long as your go with really light line. I dont really like ULs for distance, I do better with Ls or even MLs rated 1/16-3/8. I bought a Fenwick Eagle 7ft UL 1/32-1/4 (might be 3/8) and its too soft for distance with a 1/32.
  10. They do much better with water intrusion, but they aren't sealed like a VS, ZB, or Tourque. They just don't have as many potential entry points without screws or an AR switch. As far as I can find out they rely on the Magseal instead of a physical seal which does work reasonably well for spray. Eventually the Magseal fluid has to be replaced, so unless you have the fluid and can apply and reassemble correctly your better off sending it to Daiwa once a every couple years.
  11. They are, I've used them on fish that fish that pull way harder then a LMB/SMB, Albies, Slammer Blues, Black Drum never had 1 slip in nearly 20 years of using them. Make sure to check the top 3 guides really well with a cotton ball or Q tip. If you still cant find anything put a reel on the rod with light mono and see put load on that rod from every angle you can and to see if you can damage the line.
  12. The pencil weights are better overall IMO. They dont really snag up in chunk rock and are much better with grass then the tear drops. Just make sure to get weights with a closed ring, the clips have a tendency to fly off when fish jump.
  13. It really didnt need 1, your better off with it stacking just a little top heavy then leaving any gap. If you go with a different line you may have to play musical parts again.
  14. Looks like corrosion to me. Hope all goes well.
  15. Do not put any kind of glue directly on the threads or locking nut. If the threads are damaged its just going to cause a bigger headache.
  16. I can honestly say the Ike Approved Wacky hooks are probably the worst hooks I've ever used. The VMC weedless wackys straight out of the pack are just about child proof. Even with the guard modified or removed the ratio is poor. Hayabusas lighter wire wacky hooks are better in just about every way and cost less, Decoys are great as well. If you have some bigger mosquito/octopus hooks for DS 2/0 or bigger try them they work really well. Neko style hooks work as well, VMC makes a really good neko so does Owner, just depends on the style hook you want.
  17. I suspect you mean Zodias instead of Intenza? All 3 are great, but I got a Tatula last fall and its probably my favorite all around finesse rod. The ergonomics and design is what sets it apart for me. The handle and locking nut are a 9.9 of 10, the locking nut doesn't back down and keeps the reel secure. The weight of the longer handle is more then worth it. Not only is it comfortable especially if you choke up, it accommodates a wider range of weight reels then most other rods without throwing the balance off, all you have to do is choke up or down a bit and you barley feel any weight at all from the 6'+ of blank above the grip. The tip of the 7'1 ML is a little softer then a similar actioned SC, but it has a stout spine so setting hooks isnt an issue. I have a Fuego 2500 on mine and the balance is great.
  18. When I bought my moon rocks I wanted to have no doubt they were genuine. That's why I had them Mars instead of Venus.
  19. try a 3"-3.5" curlytail grub or keitech with a light jighead(1/16 or 3/32) #1-1/0 hook depending on the size of the bait, they dont have to be special just a simple jighead. You will catch fish more then just small bass.
  20. Try a Leader Material. So far I like Gold Label, but not sure 30% or higher jump in price compared to Blue Label is worth it in the majority of situations.
  21. The TA clips are proven. The 90 looks a bit short and the finish is dark for a TA, do you know the brand? The knockoffs are much cheaper, but obviously the quality isn't there. No matter how stiff that clip is if the wire your using is thin enough to slip through the gap on the 90 then it might be worth taking 30 or 40 seconds to tie a good knot.
  22. InvizX is probably your best bet. It handles much better then RedLabel, but the abrasion resistance isnt better then that of RedLabel IMO. Ill change my spools about 2 times a year on average, either because I want a fuller spool or the line toward the end of the cast has too much memory. On reels you dont use as much you can get by with 1 change per year or season depending how long you fish.
  23. I understand the logic of going with a bigger hook, but I personally don't think its the best way to go. A 12' LMB can swallow a 5/0 no problem and once swallowed the heavier wire and bigger footprint just causes more tissue damage. I like to smash barbs on high number baits or baits I may be losing contact with. Its a good idea to bring a pair of wire cutters just in case you have the opportunity to cut the hook out. If you land a fish that has swallowed a hook and isn't bleeding just remove the bait if you can and cut the line. Removing the hook will cause more damage. Putting a little bit of resistance on a bait if your unsure about a bite wont cause a fish to spit it in most cases, so don't be afraid of that.
  24. Thats just a condescending way of suggesting braid. Its not an age thing, its a personality trait. Around here the vast majority of small tackle shop owners need the shorebound bennys and yuppies to feel like they're getting the hookup so they drop more $ because its a loong winter if you dont work on bows. Its common at Cabelas/BPS, Dicks and even TD every now and then, the ignorant small shop owners here have either closed or are smart enough not to get into prolonged conversation.
